Title: Music For Stage

yong_tianadeline - January 9, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
I'm just wondering - does anyone know how and where to find the music for your stage routines?? How do you actually find suitable music for the routine? I suppose certain music genres will be more suitable?

One more question, do you find the music and suit the routine to it, or the other way round? I'm finding it hard to get the correct kind of music...

Thanks .

You can use royalty free music by Bill White. Go to Murphy and do a search for Bill White and you'll be able to see some of the cds. Here's one.

I'm not too sure about this but I suspect if you are doing a stage show and they also have a DJ/MC, they probably have already paid the relevent fees to COMPASS and therefore you can use any commercial music? Not necessarily royalty free music.
Unless you are doing like a theater show where you sell tickets and it's a stage production kind of magic show. Then you probably have to get the licensing from COMPASS.

Or else, if you are doing a stage show for like a RC event or some trade show or public event, the music permit PROBABLY covers your performance music as well. B)

I honestly find Vanessa Mae's violin pieces quite suitable for most stage routines . Acid Jazz pieces by bands like Incognito are also not bad.

Or for a true blue magic music, then it'll most probably be this

Any kind of music can accompany your magic really. Magic is what you are performing, music suppose to help enhance the mood. So, for a start, you might want to find music that has lots of "climax". Structure your routine such that the explosive part of your routine goes in sync with these climaxes.. It might be easier to plan things like that.

What you do is you time the gap from one climax to the other, then think what you can do in between. There should not be too much dead time. The first 30secs is crucial. People usually start with banging intro. These effects should be direct and easy to understand. Production of parasols, appearing canes, fire effects, dove production, appearing bottle... alot more possibilities actually.

But if you prefer to start quiet and work towards a climax, this might work just as well for some people. Seen Lee Euen Gyol's stage act where he started with a mysterious music? He walked into the stage with his face covered and then he went into a fickle fire routine before "BANG!" and he started his doves and card manipulation sequence....

Yup, so, do experiment, find what works best for you. Gd luck!

Haha I think if you're doing Card manipulation and flourishing, using rock and metal helps cause it gets the adrenalin pumping. But if you're doing card routines, use classical music like what copperfield did in his grandpa's aces routine. ^_^ just trying to help

cheers

Actually manupulation music does not really have to be fierce with rock and stuff, a classical piece will work just fine. It may be more suitable for different people as many people have different styles.

For more info on classical manupulation, check out lance burtans manupulation

Just my thoughts.

hey,

try www.magnatune.com . You can buy an album for like five dollars and I think the creative commons license allows you to do pretty much anything. Worth a try since they also give you previews.
