I'm very suprised to know that we have quite a huge magical community in sgp. Have been quietly surfing the whole forum. Found lots of wisdom and knowledge and sometimes i spend several hours just reading. (reaching enlightenment soon ) Don't think I'm alone in this ya?
Quite intrigued by mentalism though, did undergrad psychology and it's amazing to see theories of persuasion involved. Anyway, I can't read minds nor cards, I'm just exposed to the these theories.
Hope this is sufficient, will definitely enjoy my stay here!
See you guys ard!

Hi Arthur,
Thanks for dropping by. We do hope that you will enjoy your stay here. Do hope that you can and will swing by for our next meet-up.
There are quite a few peeps here that specialise in mentalism. Maybe, you can get more advise from them during the next meet-up.
Cheers!

Hi Arthur,
Welcome to SMC. Nice to klnow your interest in Magic. The magic community in Sinagpore is indeed not small. SMC has become a nice home for many local magicians to gather and get to know one another.
Do drop by for our next gathering. We have some members who are very into the genre of Mentalism. One gd example is our mod, Axl. He's hypnotise you buy financial plans from him haha...
A warm welcome and hope you enjoy your stay. ^_^
Cheers
Jerome

Hi Jerome and dry_gin,
Appreciate your warm welcomes! Yup I would love to join you guys when time permits.. It really has been awhile since I met pple based on colour of shirt, jeans, location, etc.. and approaching someone and say "Hi, you from SMC?" heh.
Well, fortunately, we have handphones now, it's real time!
Jerome, what a description of Axl.. I bet if he could read ur mind, he would be selling you a very appropriate financial plan? haha.. that isn't so bad, try thinking of the word "DISCOUNT!" next time, hope he gets it. If "DISCOUNT" doesn't work, try "FREE!"
cheers,
arthur

Nope, FREE and DISCOUNT don't work at all. The thing on psychology is that you can't persuade people to do things they don't want to do. We can only persuade people to do the things they want (though need a little push) eg. a financial plan. -_-
If I can really hypnotize, I no need to everytime "kena" the "I-will-teach-you-the-trick-for-$25" thingy from a few eh.. not so ethical guys here. Watch out for a certain teacher...... :ph43r:
Ok, enjoy your stay here, we are generally nice people, Jerome being the nicest but the same can't be said for the eh... teacher. What's a youth worker anyway?

Hi, nice to meet you here in SMC. I also into Mentalism, but specifically, I do most effects based on blindfold. Ya I fond of blindfold since the introduction by David.
Anyway, Axl is right about mentalism. We can only ask them to do things that they will do, and if you ask them to do things they don't do, they wont do.
A normal people knows how to sit and stand, if you ask them to do that, they do, but a normal people wont know how to hitch stand or do a cartwheel roll off, so if you ask them to do that, they will give you the, why should i listen to you face.
Hyynotise is also based on this theory of asking people to do what kind of things. But the strongest part of hynotise is the part when you can manipulate the person to assume he is doing something that he will do, but in the beginning, he actually dont like to do. :)
Wow, going too indepth. Anyway, enjoy your stay here, you certainly enjoy the $25 to $40 dollar policy.

Such warm replies!
Cool, sounds like a rundown of the essence of mentalism. Got a better idea on that subject after reading ur posts. I'm sure both of you must be watching The Mentalist too.
Yep, persuasion is definitely more effective when a person is indifferent about a decision or a choice. Just too bad when we meet someone with strong opinions, isn't easy to persuade, not impossible tho, and hypnosis will definitely not work.
Well, when it comes to mentalism, I have much more to learn.. and it seems that with the appropriate skills, anyone can do it? would knowledge of human psychology be of a marked advantage to mentalism or it would just be a good-to-have?
Oh youth worker is just like a social worker that is based in schools. A day's work for me would comprise a 3-period on motivational life-skills program for a class or 2, during curriculum time and, after school, we would be building rapport or keeping students involved in meaningful activities rather than slacking away/illegal activities. That's in a nutshell.
Please refer me to other forum sections if our impending discussions on mentalism becomes inappropriate for this section.. haha... I would love to hear more!
CNY is coming, with cards and coins come magic isn't it?
