newbie here... very attracted to the instant downloads that penguin has... so wanna ask, is it ok for a newbie to download and learn from there?

if so, what tricks do u guys recommend? havent learnt any magic trick yet.... so this will really be a first time :)

kryptikalism - December 1, 2004 11:24 AM (GMT)
what instant downloads do you intend to get?

JirQUEST - December 1, 2004 11:41 AM (GMT)
well i was looking at stuff like quick trick, snap change, starry eyed surprise, but i am not sure how appropriate these will be for now...

kryptikalism - December 1, 2004 11:47 AM (GMT)
well... it depends on what you want to learn. if you'er a newbie, i'd advise you to pick up videos like born to perform by oz pearlman, or encyclopedia of card sleights..

Instant downloads are USUALLY (not always) not worth their price. You would be better off buying video series and watching them and learn a whole series of moves and applications what can be applied in other stuff later.

And instant downloads tend to be too short and doesn't pay enough attention to details and presentation. At least that's what i feel...

I've never seen that one but i heard it's pretty good for covering basics for card work. Have fun man, glad you really took an interest :)

Ask any questions you might have.

Nice going. Not a bad vid, from what I know.

If you have no qualms about figuring stuff out from text, you might wanna save your money for books and instructional videos other than just instant downloading singular effects. You'll be surprised that after watching a few of these vids or reading a few of these books, you can replicate what is offered in Penguin's instant downloads quite efficiently.

Daryl's Encyclopedia is an EXCELLENT resource for beginners. I would suggest that you buy and watch them in ascending order. Volumes 1, 2 and 3 are techniques mainly for beginners. Volume 4 onwards are more for the intermediate, so watch the first few volumes first before continuing because they are kind of linked up in terms of relevance.

Before you guys go buying anything from Penguin, please draw your attention to this topic discussed on TCC:

Penguinmagic- the awful truth

Not a joke or anything, this is serious. Do NOT support thieves, just because they save you a few bucks.

Yup, too true. That's why i feel most of the instant downloads are not worth it. I'm not even a very good card guy but most of the instant downloads demos are enough to for me to pick up the trick.

Once you know the basic sleights and principles, you can get almost all the instant download tricks for free. Because u would know just from watching.

Pengiun and Ellusionist understand their internet marketting, and they are damn aggressive about it. ANYONE looking online for magic resource is SURE to come across them.

So what would be some good "non-thief" online stores that we can get from?

Ok. Not a prob. It's easier to learn visually anyway.

You can get it from all major online magic stores. If you wanna get your hands on it locally, you can try Magic Castle, the Asia Magic Network or some members here can even trade with you.
