with the 2 finalists they had, singapore idol was like more of a contest of suckiness. Both sucked, but taufik sucked less, so he won. I still think whoever voted for either of those 2 people should be sitting behind bars licking each others' feet and telling priest and rabbi jokes, because idiocy should be a crime.

The best thing is mediacorp making a hell lots of money from this...Remeber votin for amercian idol is free in the US....So to me the biggest winner is Mediacorp!

Plus olinda should be in the final....too bad talent is not such a big factor in SI.

Now that you guys mentioned it, I feel Olinda deserves a place in the finals.

Comes to show what kind of mindset local voters have. Frankly, I'm quite disappointed with the whole get-up.

Firstly, local showbiz is a filthy trade, especially where votes and judges are concerned. Read the first few chapters of a book called "The Narcissist" by Edmund Wee and you'll understand how favours are bought frivolously, and how talent alone isn't sufficient to win the battle. But then again, the book is so...well...gay. Literally.

Secondly, I can't understand how Sly, who sings off-key in most of his performances, can make it all the way to the so-called "Grand" Finals. Taufik ain't that bad but he's light years away from Olinda. Just because Olinda's on the pudgy side, her talent's overlooked. Comes to show how you're so strongly judged according to face value in the Singaporean society.

Thirdly, some of the "fans" at the Grand Finals seem more like hooligans. If you watch closely, there was this imbecile who showed a thumbs down while grinning into the camera when Ken Lim was commenting on Sly's performance. Observe again closely and you can even see a middle finger being flashed. Where's the spirit of competition in this? Is it necessary to behave this way just because you support the other idol?

I love my country, but sometimes the mentality of our people really makes me sick. The Idol competition is a good concept, but I'm ashamed to say that Singapore is still not ready for it...from a sociological viewpoint.

just a pity, this is Sg Idols, not talents and there's an X factor she lacks into becoming an idol...

haha magicdow.. i didnt know u watch sg idol too ... the finals was awesome lol.. but one thing u guys dont understand is rock songs are never easy to sing live unless lip singing ..even linkin park sucks on stage during live performace but thier album rocks! btw i think sly did a good job... i dont really like taufik high pitch voice lol but anyway i think he is a better performer and is more suitable for world idol..gogogo singapore!

well... its just sad to see the good ones get kicked out... maybe the next show should restrice voting to music producers only... then maybe we will have a better gauge... well... the best man won... gd luck to the sg idol...

There's probably more market for Chinese recordings than English. If Sly cuts an album, I'm defintely not buying it.

I didn't "contribute a lot" to the thread, I posted twice. I just stated my opinion, and that is that the finalists were horrible. The me-disliking-singapore part was an afterthought. It annoys me that people as lousy as Sylvester could actually make it to the final, and it annoys me that people actually voted before him even though plain and simple, his singing sucks. They should go listen to his rendition of Kiss from a Rose 10000 times until the priest and rabbi jokes suddenly seem so much more embracing to them. Now THAT'S the way to go.

How they'll screw up singapore's reputation (if they even do in the first place), I don't care. ;)

About being "full of angst" or "nothing better to do", I'd say it's a good mix of both. B)

Girls are more willing to spend money like this on some idol, and on ther other hand, guys are not...

Who do you think they(media corp) will market?
