Anybody does/has done any escape effects? What do you guys think of it?

I personally think a new twist is needed for these effects coz almost everyone has seen one magician or another escape from chains or handcuffs or straitjackets. Something to give it new context?

What are the resources for these? Are they all heavily prop dependant?

learn it the hard way.. pick locking!!! its crazy , before igot into magic i use to spend more then an hr everyday trying to picklock lmao.. its very hard and afther 1 week i gave up.. ididnt even manage to get a single lock open of course besides thoes number locks which are easy lol

No lah...that's too extreme. Many escape artists do not rely on lock-picking to perform their effects. Usually, precision-made gimmicks are used to create these effects.

Unfortunately, handcuffs and straitjackets are kinda hard to find locally. Haven't worn a straitjacket before and the only handcuffs I've used are woven handstraps with polyurethane fasteners when my European ex-girlfriend wants to get kinky in bed. :lol:

I do know that the simplest, and by far the safest way to do escapes is to use ropes. There are many methods to tie a rope around your limbs and secure them convincingly. These methods allow you to slip out of them in a matter of seconds and you can even slip back in, apparently secure! I've only used two methods so far (because that's all I know :P ) to perform escapism. That was back in the late 1980s.

Instead of your chains and handcuffs, you might wanna try ropes instead.

chain the hand,lock it, cover the thing wif black cloth
then handphone WILL ring and HE'LL pick it up: " Hello, ar..ar..bye bye"
hen put back under the cloth, lift the cloth and its chained back up. :D

hahahaha yep haiz actually have plans for a short escape but with heckler around and my poor management of the crowd got to end it fast sad case.. got to practcie more and make it more interesting lol.. Second try out will be in 11 dec lol :D

Speaking of which....

Since you are carrying that item in your close-up case and it is a pretty big case, you might want to consider carrying a big piece of cloth in there as well?
It would work as a much better cover than a t-shirt, which was one of the reason why the crowd turned, i think..... B)

I ever do some simple escape for gathering function that is using the "siberian" chain and mail bag escape. But the 100 feet long rope is the simplest but tiring. Normally I don't prefer to do any escape tricks now except thumb cuff. ;)
