Expert Cigarette Magic Made Easy: 3 DVD Set by Tom Mullica

Warning: The techniques taught in the DVD are legitimately dangerous and should not be attempted by anyone who is not responsible.

VOLUME 1

While it might be considered 'bad taste' to perform a cigarette act nowadays, I think it is possible to do cigarette magic in the context of ‘anti-smoking’ and encouraging people to quit :)

Professional performers like Juan Mayoral and Amos Levkovich have cigarette magic sequences in their stage acts, which end with the magical production of a white silk with a No Smoking sign on it. As long as the attitude is not that of encouraging smoking, I think it is fine. One thing though... the performance venue is also important for something to think about :lol:

Having said that, I guess if you are looking to add cigarette magic in your informal or formal magic performances, these are must-have DVDs (like hello, how can you go wrong with Tom Mullica?!) He teaches the basic sleights from palms, vanishes, productions, loading and transfers. He also covers techniques with single cigarette, as well as, multiple cigarettes. Details on hold-out tools are also covered.

You can also watch all of Tom’s quirky bits of business that includes sight gags, comedy bits, jokes and just strange performance acts. He is truly a personality and unique character, who is just incomparable... He has that silly Mr. Bean-like facial expressions, which is just hilarious :P

Some effects that stood out for me in this DVD include a cigarette vanish in hanky, which does not use a TT but the difficult and dangerous technique of.... *insert drumroll* ...tonguing! :o Yup, Tom goes through basic and advance tonguing techniques, so it's really very well covered. IMHO, he also shows the BEST version of cigarette up nose I have ever seen and the magical plucking of a solid smoke ring after blowing it from his mouth.

Trying to master all featured techniques will take years, so pick a couple of good ones and you will have some very strong and unique cigarette magic effects ^_^ My highest recommendations to anyone interested in cigarette magic. This is the definitive guide!


VOLUME 2

As in the first volume, Tom continues with live performances followed by explanations of his various routines and gags. This volume includes a collection of various cigarette magic related effects. It shows Tom’s wealth of experience performing a cigarette act and how different standard magic effects can be used in context with a cigarette magic show :)

Some of the effects that stood out for me include an off-beat cigarette to rolled-up signed card effect, an inexplicable short routine where countless orange seeds appear dropping out of his mouth after eating a wedge of orange and the classic ashes through the hand trick... I swear I've never seen anything like this before. A true original piece in magic! :lol:

His ‘Routined Vanish’ and 4-Cig Production are great sequences for stage manipulation acts as well. As a bonus, you will see Tom’s FISM act that includes his visual brand of comedy magic with of course… cigarette magic :g: All the effects and gags in this act are taught throughout the 3 volumes of the DVD series. While I personally liked the material in Vol 1 & 3 better, this volume is still highly recommended and a must-have for the complete set.


VOLUME 3

Volume 3 continues with many cool cigarette themed magic routines and then some ^_^ Here's a couple of good ones I'd like to highlight:

Tom’s Chink a Chink with bottle caps is again another perfect example of a magic effect that makes sense in the context of a cigarette act. Salvia Vanish is a sneaky magical vanish of a cigarette, which allows both hands to be shown empty.

Popca-Cola is a very psychologically smart cigarette through coin into bottle routine created by Karrell Fox. You will require a gaff coin that is not made in Singapore coinage but is very effective in pub performance situations. If you can justify the use of a foreign coin (which is easy e.g. a souvenir from a recent overseas trip)... THIS WILL BE A REPUTATION MAKER!!!! B) Really cool stuff!

Smoke Cocktail is a great visual effect that looks like a special effect but is not really a magic effect per say but it is a fantastic interlude for a bartending magician.

IMHO, the highlight of this DVD is the complete performance and explanation of ‘Nicotine Nincompoop’. Some of you may have seen this SUPER cigarette magic act... This is the exact same routine that Tom is wildly known for and presented on the first World’s Greatest Magic. It is a truly AMAZING ‘freak-show/ geek’ type of magic act that involves Tom throwing cigarettes lit into his mouth, bring them all into his mouth and finally eating all of the cigarettes along with some napkins.

There is also a bonus performance of Tom’s stage cigarette act that combines many elements of his close-up and FISM act. It is a great example of just how versatile cigarette magic is as it can be performed for close-up, parlour or stage.

As with the first two DVD volumes, this has the highest recommendations. EXCELLENT STUFF!!!
