Good luck.

I've done magic for the old folks twice before. I believe they were also from old folks' home. It was quite a <_< experience for me, because they didn't appear very interested and the only response i got was from the volunteers helping them, though they later told me that quite a few of the old folks actually told them they enjoyed my magic.

From i gathered from my 'experience', do something that's colourful and big (but no sucker routines). I suggest you could include some simple colourful silk routine. Starting with a song is a great idea, esepcially if you could conjole them to sing/hum/clap along. I think that will get them to warm up to you first.

By the way, will there be volunteers around? If there are, sometimes, enlisting the help of the volunteers will help since the old folks may be more familiar to them.

Hope my little suggestion helps.

thanks,

may i know what colourful silk routine can i do??

some example??

Adeline is very right, the oldies wont bother to clap de.. But they enjoy every moment people spent time with them, even if your magic screwed up or maybe performance screwed up, they still enjoy it. Go for something light, it will be enough.

I did performance for oldies, not magic though, but just simple, straight forward things will do.

Oh, and your speech tone must adjust also, cannot be too fast, obviously, not english intense and must know how to self entertain yourself. (Sometime when your things end, they just sit there and idle. Not to be mean, but ya, don't get worried by their reactions)

As for your routine, I think the cups and balls will do fine, and you can incoprate your happy family routine into it also. Well, but cups and balls can be too small for them. BIG and visual is good. if you got the rube cube effect, it will be great, colorful and fun.

Hi, yong tianadeline and LarryDK, thanks for advise.

yesterday i had a wonderful and fruitful time in the Bukit Batok Old Folk Home, the event was arranged by Project Smile, the Red Star Community Services seek them for help, someone there give it to me.

By the way, the volunteers around was their 1st time there and the old folks not familiar with them too, then i know there only one help, "God".

Yes, He did.

My Routine

Getting their attention by ice-breaker song: “Happy Senior Citizens" & "The more we get together" Yes, yong tianadeline, you are right by starting with a song is a great idea, esepcially i could conjole them to sing/hum/clap along. I think that will get them to warm up to you first.

Introduce myself as invited by RSCS for the 1st visit to the home;

Then the RSCS give me a Red Packet and a certificate.

LOL, elders work on you easily. Onli 90% of the time, they will tell the youngsters, its okie, you can do it, then, you s***s. They wont laugh at you for being an idiot or when your rings drop on the floor. or when that fish jump out before it should.

I also enjoy talking to elders, though some can be naggy and hardly understand our slang of english, but most elders i met nowadays, can talk to you easily and share their experiences, and give you a pat and say, well done.

It certainly helps alot. LOL!!

No prob, glad your performance turned out well.

Our english slang is indeed hard for them to understand... One thing i noticed though if you could speak some dialect, even though its very lousy (like mine), they will be quite delighted. Haha. :)

Cheers.

Hmm. When i think of magic for old folks, i think of Fantasio performing in the 1960s. The classic candle to silks, cane to silks and so on and so forth. Still amazes me tho.

Mirror, Mirror everyone needed, so i needed someone to give me some pointers for my routine, anyone??

Alright the setting for the maleka old folk home, divide into two male and female each hold about 15 of them, so the I/C wanted me to move from home A to home B each 15 mins.

so i planned to do 2 set of magic for them, all using small props and close up on floor level; by using the My GIMMICK Steps

Home A
Colour Changing Silk
Ball and Cup
Hello song
Paper Cross
Rainbow Silk Appear
Ropes and Lock
Magical Pam’s Lock and Keys
Who want the Key?

Home B
McBride’s Silk Appear
Rainbow Silk Vanish
Hello song
Paper Cross
Rubber Band
McBride’s Tissue Paper
Snow Storm
Colour Changing Silk.

Hope this will bring them great joy, pray for me, thanks.

By the way any magic shop in Maleka?? thanks.

For your Home B, i would do it differently by Ending it with the snow storm as snow storm is a nice picture moment where it is very VISUAL, there fore i would put it after Colour Changing Silk and end it at snow storm

Like wise i would suggest that you do all your silks together , keeping it flowing.

Also your paper cross can be reused and flow into snowstorm...
