Title: What If They Ask You To Teach?
Description: Help needed

thatsyafiq - March 3, 2007 01:06 PM (GMT)
Hey, I don't know if I am double posting, but if I am, advanced apologies. :(

Back to the topic. Say after you show someone a card trick or anything else, if they ask you to teach, what will you usually say? I am always at a loss of words if someone asks me to teach them the trick. If I don't, they will call me arrogant. Please help me! Thanks!

Cheerios,
Syafiq

I will answer: "You know magicians cannot teach, why ask?"

Or confuse them, "Okie, Look into my eyes.. What you see" "Nothing" "Too bad then.."

Answer: "No. Just enjoy what I do. Believe me, you DO NOT want to know how it is done."

- harapan. magic!

Or you could just go with the cliche;
"Magicians never reveal their secrets"

Of course, that would usually get you a "Ahh..lame" reaction from the crowd. haha.

This always happen to me. Simply, you just tell them this - Knowing how it is done is not important but the most important is to enjoy the performance. I am doing you more hurt if you know how it is done. Trust me!

Actually someone in the forum came up with an excellent solution to this problem.

When they ask you to teach something, give a serious look and say " Can you keep a secret?"

If he answered "Yes" then say "so can i "

If he answered "No" then u say " Well then i cannot teach you since you cannot keep the secret of magic"

Sorry but i really forgot who came up with this. I use this quite often lol

It was Ning. Do remember that! :D

Harapanong's one is nice too.

LOL... thanks for remembering me! This topic's been discussed before, so just dig up the old threads for more suggestions. Ace, I'm happy to know that you use it now & it works for you too

In fact, I just did a close up gig last week for Microsoft at Pan Pacific hotel and was entertaining a bunch of 6 Caucasian men who were amazing audience, clapping and cheering, practically a close up worker's dream crowd. It seemed whatever I was doing with them, I was doing right. At the end of the set, the 'loudest' guy asked me for the secret to the last 'trick' I did (my own version of Doctor Dailey's last trick) and I used my classic line on him.

It truly doesn't offend them, because you say it sweetly with a cheeky wink or a knowing nod of your head... and they just get it ^_^ They know you're just a gal (or in most instances, ok, guy) doing your job to entertain. Everyone knows about the magician's code of secrets ;) So yup, this stuff is tried and tested!!!! *grin*

Opps! How can i forget that Ning came up with it?! lol :P

Next time other people ask me where did i learn that line from, I'll remember to give credit to Ning haha

"Well a beautiful female magician came up with it!"

Guess all the male audience will go
