Welcome to the forums... I've edited out your contact details from your intro post by the way. Please read the forums rules first so you know SMC's general guidelines. No warning/ minus points were given to you since you're new here :) However, do mind your spelling in future as well, as the mods do take that into consideration.

IMHO, if you're serious about magic, you should make the effort to learn on your own and then meet up with magicians to jam and discuss ideas. Most people learn through available books and DVDs these days, as it is more efficient and affordable than learning at the master's knee, so to speak ;)

Good luck with your journey anyways and once again, welcome to the SMC family.

Heh, tell me about that.

When I read about and watched the overhand shuffle and the false control, the moves seem so easy to do. But when I tried to do them, the cards slipped all over my hands and onto the floor. Very frustrating. After practicing for weeks, my handling is getting a bit better. At least now my cards don't have the urge to fly all around me as much as before.

My point is, since you have stated you just started 5 days ago, maybe you should keep on practicing for a while more. Most people, I think, won't be able to go from beginner to expert, or even from beginner to not-so-beginner, in just less than a week. ^_^

Can you imagine what you have to go through half a decade ago?

Hold a deck in your hand for a day. This helps you familiarise yourself with the deck, for example, the different grips etc. This is so as to reduce card sloppiness in the future.

It's been only 5 days, my friend... you still have a long way to go.

West side!?

Yayy. I stay at clementi.

But then, sadly speaking, learning IS difficult. Book and video alike.

Then again, if you're serious about this, then press on persevere and practice! You'll make it somewhere far and do not need resort to selling badly done tricks for 2 bucks.

Hmm, if you are asking your friend to TEACH you magic, I guess he will definitely reject. But if you already own the trick and need some tips and guidelines, I'm sure SMC members will be glad to help you. Learning from videos is not really that tough for me. You just have to have the stuff needed beside you when you are watching the video. I haven't really read books about magic so I don't really know if its difficult. But for beginners, trying going around Singapore and you will sure be able to find some magic shops around[can't list them in SMC]. So, good luck and all the best=)

Hmmm... from your post it seems that you are more into flourishings rather than magic (ok, I could be wrong). So which one are you?

Anyway, usually magicians (even if he is a friend) would not anyhow teach anyone unless..
-you pay them
-you show genuine interest and passion to improve your art

so I suggest you go buy a video or pay for a coach to get yourself started. Books, in my opinion, might be too much for a beginner (ok, there are exceptions of course). Anyway, I admit, I only started to read books recently.

Honestly, in my humble opinion, MAGIC is more of a Respectable Art than a hobby. But than again, it is my own opinion.

Ok, back to your topic. Beginning in almost anything new wouldn't be easy, if not, almost every other Tom, Dick or Henry will be doing it. Practicing hard and perservering should help you acheive what you want to get at the end of the day.

Books and DVD's are guides to make the teachings alot easier for you to understand this art. But all the practice depends on yourself. Other magicians or peeps who know enough can only help you so much. Do practice hard, and should you, in future, need help with an effect, than I am sure that even your friend will help you. Or you can come down to our SMC meet-ups!

Cheers!
