Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a PSP (not becos i have too much cash but I'm really very bored, haha..), but i'm quite confused regarding the difference of certain versions.

Can someone explain to me? Its like everyone's telling me different things. Haha.

Ver. 1.5 can only play downloaded games?
Ver. 2.8 can only play original games?
Ver. 3.03 can play BOTH original and downloaded games?

Confusing man.. Oh also, anyone has any idea of the price of that console now? Any recommended places to buy?

Thanks..! :)

If I'm not wrong, 1.5 can play both downloaded games and UMD games. This is the first version that Sony released without knowing that it could play downloaded games. 2.81 I'm not sure. It depends on the PSP itself. There is a lot of things you must consider when trying to get a PSP. But I'm quite sure that version 3.03OE-C can play downloaded games, or at least it can be downloaded. If you want to get a PSP, get one with firmware 3.03OE-C so you don't have to worry much. Its a relatively new version of Sony's firmware too. Good luck. Anyways, go to this forum and you might find more :D PSP forum.

Umm,
3.03OE-C is a custom firmware and not endorsed by sony.

Meaning its modified such that it can play homebrew games? Got OEC, still got what? Lol.

Also 1 more question, does PSP comes with warranty? I've heard that there's no warranty for stuffs like dead pixels etc..

lukold - March 31, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
Check for dead pixels before you buy it, PSP warranty is almost useless. They wont repair for whatever shit unless its software probs, and you have to pay loads to repair it. AND! Custom firmware voids all warr, but even so, it wont have problems for a good year. Theres also the 3.10 OE-A which is the latest version i think

The guy selling at hardwarezone (qishan, u intro one), his one like cannot check for dead pixels. Got such thing?

OE-A and OE-C got wat diff?

Eg. ver 3.10 OE-A and ver 3.10 OE-C..

Thanks arh..!

What u mean cannot check for dead pixels? Meet up with him and deal, then check for dead pixel on the spot.
If theres a 3.10OE-C already, that means its the latest. It's just which one is the latest firmware, 3.10OE-C the latest, and 3.10 OE-A the first batch of the 3.10s

I get it now. OE simply stands for something (doesnt matter what), but these "-A", "-B", "-C" at the back, which means which one is the latest. Like ranking 1 2 3 liddat. Hahaha..

Thanks again man.

I know it sound a bit confusing to you. I had the same thinking when i was going to get one. I end up spending much more due to lack of knowledge. I learn a lot while researching up on this and asking around.
This what I can share with you if you thinking of getting one.

1st if you intend to play download game in which we call homebrew games, you need to get a system at ver 1.5. Sound confusing not really. Homebrew games can only play in 1.5 version only.
If you able to get a direct 1.5 ver it will be perfect. but i know the price is much higher. but 1.5 ver only came in black.

You can choose to get other models but then you better ask the shop assistant can it be downgradable to 1.5ver to play homebrew game
Some version can't do a downgrade so better ask before you buy. I got my white PSP ver 2.6( If i remember correctly) downgradable. You can ask the shop if they can do the downgrade for u at a fees, normally take a while only. They will use a program to help you out. I know it is done, but it is very tedious. If do wrongly may damage the PSP and u need a game call GTA the older version. (I went to the extend to do it myself and i got hold of one new version of GTA, end up nothing can be done I got to still ask the shop to do for me)

Playing homebrew games may seem a bit headaches at first cos it quite complicated. After downgrading the software to 1.5ver. u can activate a program which will be install in your PSP to free choose to play what type of homebrew games. If you have a original UMD in which u wish to play and the version is higher you got to have the latest temporary upgrade program to push your system to let say 3.0 ver to play the UMD. I have this problem when i brought one version 3.0 original UMD.

Anyway, it will sound complicated. My advise to you is get a friendly shop assistant who will know a lot on these to help and guild u along then u buy from the shop.
