Title: Smc & The Immortalx! Gathering
Description: Dinner & Comedy cum Magic Show
jeromefang - March 29, 2007 08:20 AM (GMT)
Hi Everyone,
In the 3rd week of April, The Theatre Practice is showcasing a Comedy & Magic drama at Jubilee Hall. Taking this opportunity, I've discussed with the other mods and we've decided to organise a gathering on 21st April (Sat) evening. We'll have a dinner gathering, follow up by attending the drama Immortalx. I guess in the minds of everyone now you'll be asking: What is ImmortalX? Ok, here’s the synopsis of this drama:
A Production by The Theatre Practice
Let me tell you a secret: The gods live next door. And their descendants are hiding among us. They could be anywhere - that annoying kid down the street, or even the nerdy geek in class. People don't believe or pray anymore, so these immortal kids aren't like their parents. They have no superpowers, no special rights, and they worry about tests and exams just like you and me. Life as an immortal couldn't be more boring. Then one day, the world blacks out and all hell breaks loose. Will the immortals regain their powers and save the day?
Warning: Performance contains mind-blowing magic. Audiences are advised that they could die of shock.
Unleash your inner SUPERPOWER with The Theatre Practice: Immortalx!
This punchy production is an invigorating feast for the senses, with a synergistic combination of comedy and magic married into the performance onstage. Audiences both young and old will be treated to an exciting experience of rib-tickling humour and stunning magic effects like fire held in the palm of a hand, floating balls of light, and even levitating actors!
Immortalx is a stellar production helmed by director Alvin Chiam, scripted by Wu Xi, with Magic consultant & designer Jack Seet – Join us for the ride and release your superpower!
IMMORTALX
Date / Time: 18/4 (8pm), 19 - 21/4 (2:30pm & 8pm), 22/4 (2:30pm)
Venue: Jubilee Hall
Ticket Price: $32 & $27 (including $2 SISTIC charge)
*Performed in Mandarin with English subtitles.
SINGAPORE MAGIC CIRCLE OFFER: 15% DISCOUNT FOR PURCHASES OF 10 OR MORE TICKETS!
For this production, I've made some special arrangements with the administrator of The Theatre Practice for some discounts for SMC members and the good news is that they're willing to give SMC members 15% discount for purchases of 10 or more tickets. This is higher than the standard 10% student concession that is available through SISTIC. This means the original price of $32 & $27 ticket prices are now priced $27.50 and $23.25 respectively.
This show will be on for 4 days and the discount is available for any of the 4 days. However, it would be great if everyone could come on 21st April (Sat) as the mods and I be organising a dinner gathering before the show. This would be great time for everyone to get to know one another, for everyone to see our Magic Babe, Ning hehe..(sorry Ning, have to use you as bait again :P ) and of course for newbies to meet and cosy up with fellow memebers and oldbies to catch up.
Therefore, pls revert back by posting adding your name below before 9th April if you wish to attend. If you wish to bring your boyfriends, girlfriends or family members along, they're most welcome and the discount applies to them as well. Remember that the discount applies on all 4 days of the show, as long as the order is made in the same batch. As for payment wise, I'll PM all those who have posted your names on how to make the payment.
If you have any other questions, feel free to post them here and I'll be happy to answer them. Attached is the advertising poster for the show. Do give your warmest support guys ^_^

Nooooooo.... Why does it have to be on the 21st of April?
I have to help out at my friend's wedding that evening, so I can't watch it with everyone. :(
If you guys are still hanging out after the play, I'll join you guys there and then.
Now to consider whether to watch the play alone on Sunday...
jeromefang - April 11, 2007 11:34 AM (GMT)
Hi Everyone,
I understand that some people would like to have more information about this play as what I had described above might not be sufficient. Basically, here’s a little scoop on the play.
Immortalx is a sidesplitting celestial comedy about the latter day descendants of deities who find themselves stuck with the family business! Unable to attend the regular SAP school, these teenaged deities are holed up in a special school that tries to train up their divine powers.
The decline of daily devotion has severely diminished the omnipotence of these mythical gods, but who’s counting joss sticks? Struggling to renew their relevance, these pre-pubescent potentates now live among us as they come to terms with the phenomenon of technology. Divine Hearing? Use a handphone. Omniscience and Divine Vision? Try the internet instead :P . Can these hapless heavenly bodies escape divine extinction? What will happen when the gods are finally forgotten?
Immortalx packs a pantheon of fun and spectacle for the whole family! Never seen the gods use their powers before? Witness a divine display of madcap magic, celestial combat and almighty antics!
Catch these WACKY IMMORTALS as they hilariously struggle to cope with their less-than-extraordinary existence…
Ne Zha - Discipline Master. Teacher of the celestial arts. No longer the rebellious prodigy, he is now your typical mid-lifer who wants to revive the golden age of his hey days.
Earth God - Operations Manager. Like a doting parent, he tends to the everyday nitty gritty of running the school.
Ao Mi - Rumoured to be a Dragon (although he’s never actually changed into one). Was rescued as a child by Ne Zha from the crumbling underwater Dragon Palace. Has been hydrophobic ever since.
Ray - Grandson of the Lightning God (Lei Gong). Gets his kicks from sticking his fingers into live sockets. Is often found having tête-à-têtes with various electronic gadgets. Also a staunch advocate of PETA (Protection of ElecTrical Appliances).
Ah Jing & Ah Zhi - Kids of the Cowherd and Weaving Maid. Raised by the Moon Elder, their mix of human and immortal DNA led to various mental abnormalities. Ah Jing gives new meaning to the word “hyperactive”. Ah Zhi is more than a little off centre. Frequently found stealing the Moon Elder’s red thread to match-make unsuspecting victims. I guess we now know who's responsible for all the mis-matched couples out there..
Fan Shi Yi - Grandson of the God of Fortune. Is really sick of money, and dreams of being a pauper. Not likely to lose the family fortune because of his tendency to pick up money, win the lottery, and get pelted by falling diamonds. Grandson of Cai Shen Ye but wants to be poor...how ironic ^_^
Chang Chang - Grandson of Lady Meng (Meng Po), son of the Black Ghost Warden (Hei Wu Chang). He has an atrocious memory – the result of helping out in his Gran’s kitchen, and being overexposed to the fumes of her Five-Flavoured Tea of Forgetfulness. Has never been known to pass exams.
Check out
http://www.ttp.org.sg/immortalx/ for a SNEAK PEEK of these hair-brained deities!!!
Experience their Magical Powers like
Fire on Palms, Elegant Bill Productions, Amazing Levitation of Actors !!! and much much more... Experience a world of modern magical mayhem with this laugh-a-minute comedy!
Guys and Gals, this is going to be a fantastic play. Not just for magic but for the comedy as well. I understand that many people are worried that they might not understand the play but fret not as there will be Subtitles screened from the projectors during the play. While I was talking with the administrator of The Theatre Practice, I could already sense that this is going to be an interesting play. Hence, I hope more people would come support this play. ^_^
So do come and join me and the other Mods for dinner on 21st Apr (Sat). It'll be a nice evening to chill and dine. Please reply with your names below by this Friday (13 Apr) so that I can arrange for the tickets. Thanks for your time and if you have any queries, feel free to ask them here or you can contact me on my mobile at 9788-2598.
Magically Yours
Jerome

jeromefang - April 16, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the support for the event and a million Thanks for Shade for roping in his students to watch this show. I'm eagerly looking forward to this Sat to catch the show. I'm sure it would be a blast.
The tickets are confirmed already and I've managed to get centre seats for all of us. Sweet ah.. ^_^
Ok, now down to dinner plans before the show. Where shall we all congregate for dinner? Its going to be a big group for us and we need to find an appropriate place. Off the top of my head, I can only think of the following places to have dinner:
(1) Macdonalds beside Odeon Towers (Nearest to Jubilee hall)
(2) Burger King at the basement of Raffles City
(3) Food Centre along Brash Basah road (Opposite Carlton Hotel)
(4) Cafe Cartel
Guys, do give your suggestion or preferences if you have any and I'll try to plan for it. Thanks ^_^
Cheers
Jerome
Shade - April 16, 2007 11:10 PM (GMT)
BK at Raffles City Basement has my vote. It's easy to get to so nobody would get lost and it's big. And it's also affordable (more so than Cafe Cartel anyway). ;)
Shade
thatsyafiq - April 17, 2007 09:00 AM (GMT)
Hey was just wondering what time will the dinner be?
Shade - April 17, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
Seeing as the show starts at 8pm, we should meet up at about 6:30pm @ Raffles City Basement BK. We do have quite a big group and will also need to factor time to walk there.
What'd you think Jerome?
Shade
jeromefang - April 17, 2007 04:43 PM (GMT)
We should be seated down before 8pm. Seeing that we have such a big group, I think we should meet at 6pm. So that if anyone were to be late for dinner, he'll still be in time for the show.
Lets set at 6pm BK, basement of Raffles City. Any objections?... ^_^
chanzian - April 17, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
how about after the show?are you guys going to do anything?
Ning - April 18, 2007 05:28 AM (GMT)
I now got a booking of TWO shows on the 21st... so SMS me if you guys are hanging out till late after that. Will try to join you guys if I can... It's been awhile!
ning ^_^
Shade - April 18, 2007 12:32 PM (GMT)
Ok then, let's confirm it:
6pm @ Raffles City Basement Burger King
We'll be there until a certain time whereby we will set off to Raffles Hotel Jubilee Hall.
Those who are late will have to make their own way there! Please remember that your tickets are with Jerome and late comers are not allowed to enter the theatre until the interval (watch Spiderman 2 if you need details)
If you do get lost, please contact either Jerome or myself:
Jerome Fang - 97882598
Shade - 94314170
As some people have mentioned that I have a F***ED up sense of direction, do call Jerome unless its an emergency. :)
Shade
PS: We'll have a late night session after that - Jerome will muscle pass your handphones across the parking lot of Raffles Hotel and Axl will throw your cards out the window (He needs to flex his muscles).
AdrianLee - April 18, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
Do let me know where you guys will be after the play. I'll join in after I'm done helping out at my friend's wedding dinner at Raffles Town Club. ;)
jeromefang - April 18, 2007 03:27 PM (GMT)
Great, its all set. Our rendezvous timing and place shall be 6pm at Raffles City BK for dinner and then we shall adjourn Jubilee Hall for a great show. I'm so looking forward to it... ^_^
In the event that anyone is late, pls call or msg me so that I can arrange with the ushers to let you enter the theater. If you're unsure of the location, just ask any staff working in Raffles Hotel. They will know. Feel free to call me if necessary.
After show plans? Yes, ZiAn and Adrian. We'll crash some bar in Chijmes and do some hardcore close-up magic... Hehe...it'll be fun. We'll definitely have a late session of drinks and jamming so if you guys can make it, do join us.
Ning, do join us after your show. Our Magicbabe is alwasy welcomed... ^_^
PS: The day your handphone become the size of a coin, I'll definitely try and Musclepass across not just parking lots but across Sinagpore river.. :P Shade, probably you should put the directions of places on playing cards. Maybe you might remember better. Hehe... :D

No No No - you do NOT turn up late for a theatre production! It's not only bad form - it's plain RUDE.
Do make an effort to turn up EARLY.
Thanks. Thanks. Thanks.

Hi Justin,
Thanks for showing your interest in wanting to attend the show. I just spoke to the administrator of the show and I'm sad to inform you that I'm unable to get the bulk discount for you as my initial order has already been put through and I can't add anymore. However, if you're still a student or if your friends are a student, you all are entitled to 10% discount through SISTIC.
My apologies for not being able to offer the bulk discount to you but i do hope that you're still interested in joining us for the show. Thanks
Cheers

Hi Everyone,
Thanks everyone who turned up yesterday to watch the ImmortalX show. I hoped everyone had an enjoyable time. I sure did. The show was really fantastic. I could not stop laughing at all the quirky moments.
All the actors and actress played their characters really well. Some even played multiple roles. My favourite has to be Catherine Wong. This lady is awesome. She played a total of 3 characters if I'm not wrong. She played the main role of Chang Chang who is the descendent of meng po. She then played the character of Sun Wu Kong (Monkey God). This was really one of the the most hilarious moments. She spoke with a Hong Kong accent as Sun Wu Kong was apparently caught by the British after he lost all his celestial powers and then he was transfered to a Hong Kong Zoo for experiments on how come this monkey can have such longevity. That scene of him conversing with the Jade emperor was extremely funny.
Just before the end of the show, there a fight scene between the deities and a Villan deity. This Villian deity is again played by the actress who played Chang Chang and when she appeared, on stage, it was accompanied a song of Jolin Tsai (Wu Niang I think :P ) and she danced to it as well.. It was damn funny... It cracked everyone up and everyone was applauding to it.
Now to the magic, I have to say my good friend Jack Seet did a really good job designing and consulting the effects. 2 thumbs up to you bro... ^_^ Some of the signatire effects inside were the Osaka Bills (Miser's Dream with bills), Omega fire (fire on palms), full frontal levitation of actors of up to 2 feet and of course a very elegant zombie ball routine. Although the magic aspect was not the main attraction of the show, the magic definitely heightened the interest and value of the show. All in all, it was a fantastic show and I loved it a lot.
To end off, I like to Thank Jack my good friend who gave me a very unexpected surprise yesterday. Thanks bro... Thank you to Joyce, the administrator who helped me arrange the tickets for SMC. A very big Thank you to Shade, Shade's wife and his big group of students who came down to support the show. Axl and his girlfriend Jing Yi, Gorodon and his grilfriend Shirley, Justin and his friend who came down last minute to join us and our one and only Mr SMC.. Aloy who finally appeared after so long... :D Lastly not forgetting to Thank the entire cast and crew of the Theatre Practice for coming up with the great show. Kudos to you all... ^_^
Cheers
Jerome
