Title: Card To Mouth
Description: any suggestions

chanzian - March 30, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
hi guys, im currently trying to think of a card to mouth routine. i do not like the one that brad christian teaches in crash course 1 if im not wrong. Or it could be inside magic. This is because in that one, you fold the card into quarters and it's too big, i feel like puking when the card magically appears in my mouth.

There is one by tom mullica, but that requires a table, so i cant do it street magic style. Any suggestions on how i can magically make the card appear in my mouth other than the above methods?

Most CTM effects have the card in quarters when you produce it from the mouth. However, you could always add another fold to make it eighths - so it's smaller and easier to manage in the mouth.

Alternatively you could always do an effect where the corner of the card is torn off and you only reproduce the corner from the mouth.

For me I'll just make the card appear between my lips, not inside my mouth.

I never performed the card inside mouth routine before.
I think it is gross, if the card comes out of your mouth >_< Imagine after the trick you say " Feel free to inspect the card.."

Guess that will make all the spectators vainish -_-

well the reason i am looking into card in mouth is because many people who i performed magic to will tell me about this magician they say from way back. And one trick many remembered was how that magician 'don't know do what do what, and the card magically appears in the mouth'. And here i am talkin about several groups of people who all remembered the same effect from different magicians.

so i think that it is worth the time and effort. Therefore i am looking into other people's routines and presentation and try to modify it to something that is uniquely my own.

Shade: i know the mercury fold has a 4 fold and 6 fold. But i have never heard about folding it into eighth.

Ace: haha that's the funny part. Hand out the card and tell the spec 'err you can keep the card' :D

Zian, I think that the reason why you feel like puking when you have the card in is due to the gagging reflex that happens when you have a foreign, unfamiliar object in your mouth.

Try this, when you brush your teeth, try brushing the inside surface of your tongue, at the inner part of your mouth closer to your throat. It'll probably make you feel uncomfortable and even cause you to gag.

Do this for a few days and you'll eventually get used to the feeling and will stop gagging. It's a matter of getting your body used to it.

After that, try Card In Mouth with the Mercury Fold again, see if you still gag. I think it should be much less or even none. Do use a clean card though.

Hope this helps.

I like to end off an ACR rountine with a CTM but i dun really like to put it insie my mouth cause it is so gross .It end up on my lips when the audience notice there is a card in between my lip they will freck out.
i think that is a pretty good move

yea i do the card to lip thing too. But i am thinking of creating a card to mouth (as in really inside the mouth) routine. But thanks for the tip..

CTM routines are usually amazing to lay and you would get the reaction you want but its rather gross when you let them inspect the card with their signature on it plus all the things in your mouth.. haha

Have you considered The Silent Treatment by Jon Allen?

It's a strong opener. The thought of "card to mouth" mentalism effect. I really like this effect and would perform it more often except that I tend to gag when I put a card in my mouth for a long time. It's just me. Not so sure if it is what you are looking for, but it is strong! The card is in your mouth all the time and it is 100% accurate. You will only be able to perform this as an opener unless you choose not to talk through your entire routine.

Silent Treatment

SHOET is another nice effect, but it is Card to Shoe effect. Nice and easy to do. Spectator can sign any card card. You can remove your shoes without your hands going near your feet to show that there is a card inside your shoes. Card is removed from your shoes and shown to be the signed card.

Just curious do u really need to get the card out from your mouth. Cos if you will felt like puking with the card in the mouth, then why want to have it in there the 1st place.
There are a lot of ways to appear a card, out as mention by some. Signed Card to wallet is also quite a astonishing act you will get from your spectator.
Just do something that you feel comfortable with.

Can't speak for all "card to mouth" effects, but with the silent treatment, you just have to stick out your tongue and the card will be in your mouth. Since there is no movements of the hands anywhere near the mouth, the spectators will not suspect sleight of hand. It's much stronger.

You could try using David Stone's Card to Mouth Routine in his latest DVD.

The one that I'd recommend though is the One from Dan and Buck Dave's Trilogy DVD.

Theirs is very straight forward and quick.

And.. hello Joel :) when you're back in SG come jam with me!
