Effect

Any coin is borrowed and signed. A regular card box is shown all around. The coin is then rubbed against the box, and slowly, the coin melts right through. You can then shake the box and hear the coin inside! The coin can then be dumped out and examined. Only ONE coin is used, and the box is not gaffed! Everything can be examined... Use cigarette boxes, candy, etc... Extra ideas included.

This is a nifty idea and is quite practical. The coin can be a borrowed Singapore 20-cent coin (an ideal size for performing!). The penetration is visual & audible as the audience sees the coin vanish cleanly and then hear it inside the card case. Very strong stuff!

The coin is then fairly poured out from the card case. The illusion is convincing and the box is un-gaffed but requires a special something that can be cleaned up at the end so that the case can be completely examined if desired.

I guess the only issue I have with this effect is the motivation and reason of why the coin must be placed between the cellophane and the back of the box because if one were to perform a coin in box routine, the most logical and straightforward approach would be to have the coin penetrate through the box and cellophane.

However, I believe this can be easily justified with a simple coin routine as a build-up to the effect. For example, perform a one-coin routine where the coin vanishes, reappears and penetrates your hands. As a finale, explain that you will isolate the coin between the card case cellophane and the card box so that you cannot touch the coin but the audience can still see it. I think this provides the justification needed to help make the effect stronger ^_^
