Title: Buggered By Laymen Til I'm Pissed...
[Ling] - December 5, 2004 07:27 AM (GMT)
Recently, i got so pissed by my classmates for about 3 months. Ahem, everyday in school (NCHS, just letting you guys know...), my annoying friends (sometimes i dont think they qualify to be 'friends'.) will come up to me to command me (as if this is my duty to lend out decks for entertainment?!) to lend them my ACed Bike, Alladin (they called it Ali-baba?!), Bee decks, for what?! For their stupidest gameplay of Bluff/Murder/Tai Ti/ Poker or whatever. And they know that these cards are obviously good quality ones, and by that they still go warp them all nasty and slide them all over the tables until the colour faded slightly. and of cos, the air cushion thingy are more or less scraped off and gone. And after that, they put them back at my desk as if nothing has happened. I was so furious, so of cos, i demanded a compensation from them, not asking them to pay more than the original price.
What bloody asses they are?! Denying that they played roughly with my cards, and worst still, they freakking said that cards are meant for gameplay. But ACed, Good Cards?! *do they have BRAINSSS??* I said do not give a damn, and wanted them to pay. Ok they paid. This is case number 1.
Case number 2.
At my class chalet (18 to 20 Nov.), same thing they took my decks and had a vicious round(S) of roughest and brutish gameplay ever on both unpolished wood and floorboards, this time without my permission. I was watching my cards to be ruined beyond any use possible, but i dared not let out my temper as chalet is meant to be a joyous event. Ok i tolerated. But at the morning of the 2nd day, i blew up. I asked my good friends who werent using my cards, to go snatch my cards and save them from futhur spoiltage. Then i was already in mourning state, on the very verge of tears and maddness of saddness. at this point of time, a friend asked me to teach him how to spring cards, ok I taught, he's quite good. I had always trusted this guy. He asked me to loan him 1 deck for practise. Ok I trusted him well enough. Guess what?! Other dumb guy pushed him into the swimming pool, and thus my cards (last of my decent looking decks left then...) got wet and all soggy. Guess my emotion, my listeners... Well beyond pure despair and saddness. No words can describe it...
A magician/flourisher without decent decks???
God is unfair.
Life is unfair.
Give us some justice.
- Once again saddened by the recountings... :(
- Anyone can give me soem advice on how to deal with those breed of suckers??
Thank YOU ALOT!
(now those cards lie in my drawers, sad and useless...)

Very simple always bring some lousy deck with you in the case they as you for deck hand them that ot.. get some cheap aladdins not AC one and sell them.. first you can ensure you won't worry about spoiling the deck and wats more you get money to buy news decks.. lol.. You can ask you wan a 3 plus deck or a 5 bucks deck for your game I can sell you lol if they say free give them those 1 dollars deck that they can use in their game lol.. :D
Winder - December 5, 2004 08:10 AM (GMT)
Well... Show them who's the boss, tell them that your card isn't for gambling purposes, if they want to gamble. Ask them to get a deck of their own, never take out your deck infront of your friends too unless you are performing, unless you can control them.
Moondust - December 5, 2004 08:11 AM (GMT)
Being a cardist yourself, your friends will expect you to carry cards with you. Being your friends, you're probably obligated in a way to give in to them.
You see, being laymen, they don't know the true value of cards. To a person outside the card arena, cards are just objects of party entertainment, but to you, your cards are the tools of your trade.
I'll probably murder the bugger who uses my Bikes to wipe the floor, but asking for compensation would be too petty from the laymen's perspective. Instead, try this:
To you, the games they play may be stupid, but to them, it's entertainment...and vice-versa. They may think that your magic's a waste of time, and would rather entertain themselves with their game. Don't expect others to change for you. Instead, change your own mindset to accomodate to the prevailing situation.
Don't bring out too many performance decks when you attend social gatherings like chalets. If you want to, make sure you keep your cards with you. If by any chance your pals ask you for cards, keep a couple of old, unwanted or cheap decks with you and just hand those to them for their card games. It's a little troublesome, but you can't have the best of both worlds. Sometimes, friendship is about sacrifice. Sacrifice some space in your handbag for the sake of friendship, or just sacrifice performing altogether in social gatherings. You really can't expect the vast majority to value your cards as you do, because they aren't magicians.
Here's another way to bring you closer to your pals. They like to play "Tai Ti" (Big Two) right? I have a Cyclic Order invented that you can interject when you pretend to "join" them in their game (will be posting a vid online sometime soon and if you're interested, I'll teach you how it's done). Instead of making them watch you perform, you'll be performing miracles to them when it seems like you're just joining them for a game of cards! That is a sure-fire way of getting your friends impressed, and forge better friendships and a better reputation for yourself. Remember, use an old or cheap deck so that they can continue on the game if they want.
Don't get pissed off with them. They don't understand. It wouldn't help and it wouldn't solve your problems.
Cheer up, girl!
Regards, Moondust.

ren8585 - December 5, 2004 08:20 AM (GMT)
bring 2 decks when u know they gonna use yours.. of course bring an unwanted one.. trust me they wouldnt mind using the ware out deck.. to layman an old deck is no difference from a new deck or air cushioned one
ren8585 - December 5, 2004 09:31 AM (GMT)
thats the the one i have lol... gf bro got it from australia.. $20sg? nah... it sucks.. easily get scratches and the printing isnt accurate in all the cards..its also bridge size =.=
Mystical2004 - December 5, 2004 09:53 AM (GMT)
the price aint worth it... i got mine from aus for AU$7-11. translated to sing, is bout S$9-15. with reference to the above post, y not play with them then cheat? or get some pasar malam cards then juz give them and dont bring any other decks to school.
Pseudo - December 5, 2004 10:26 AM (GMT)
Just get a blank deck to school... They can't play with it... :P
Winder - December 5, 2004 10:43 AM (GMT)
Just do a reverse fan and show them that they can't play anything with it, then cast a spell on it and make it visible and tell them it's a haunted deck.
illusionist - December 5, 2004 10:58 AM (GMT)
Wao winder use my pharse ah lol.. Yeah that is a good idea too.. or you can bring a blank deck with just one face card lol and tell them wtach when I wave my hand over it become blank and when it in my hand it will have face and them hand them the blank deck to examin all they wan lol.. talking crap again.. lol :P

hey Moondust and all who has replied. Thank you understanding people out there for being such a wonderful listening ear. I really felt better and refreshed again! Thanks once again! Hiazz, but can they FEEL this quality difference in textures etc of the cards?? Are their touch receptors dsyfunctional or what? Hiazzz, shit happens... Anyway, I've made an ETERNAL vow not to lend people my performance/flourish decks anymore, unless in a trick that need audience involvment. If they insists, I'll just say that 'If you want it for your games or whatever. Go 7-11 and get them yourself.' * I can tolerate no more of this nonsensical people out there...* haha, anyway I think they got the message when i gave a stern nick at my MSN.
Haha, anyway, tell me when you are killing those asses, I wanna witness them and tape them and upload into kazaa for downloads!
Phew! feel better now!

Anyway, I'm interested in that Tai ti gambling rountine. Sounds exharliating to see all those darn classmates gamblers and nonsense people to be dumbfounded, and to instill a sense of fear for me, then maybe they will realise the power of magic! (and shut up about me lending any more decks...)
Some history lesson here:
-- Cards are not invenetd for gambling at first, all of them were for purely magical acts like Cartomancy - divination. (like tarots, but uses Playing cards in the past.) So laymen out there, Cards aren't equal to meant for gamblings/games.

Heh... I went to borders today and guess what. There's a book teaching people how to increase your chance in wining blackjack. Its quiet an interesting book. :P
Or... if you're good in Second deal or Bottem deal... You'll probaly be known Queen of Gamble in your school. ;)
makanmonkey - December 5, 2004 04:37 PM (GMT)
I agree with what i think is the general sentiment here... take a subst deck of those $1-a-pack cards with u everywhere u go... or even better plastic cards which should last longer and at the same time seem of "better quality" to ur frens... after all u'll be carrying 1 deck of bikes ard, 1 more deck won't be too troublesome =)
[Ling] - December 5, 2004 05:21 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all that advises! ;) Bleah... Cant do second/bottom deals... Me not gambler-magician. haha I prefer the post, school magician! haha... "performed for principal personally before!'' hehe the thrill of floating in the parade square is drug-like HIGH. Do you have a place where pple can post their performing experiences??? That will be very great! Thanks again!

Hmmm... girl, you gotta learn how to just smply say "NO" sometimes. You know how they treat your cards and all, so stop letting them take advantage of you/ your cards. Otherwise, seriously, listen to Moondust and the rest of the gang's advise on how to deal with it.
I quite like the idea of bringing a blank deck with ya. LOL  Cheer up okay? *sayang sayang*
[Ling] - December 6, 2004 02:56 AM (GMT)
Thanks Ning! I've made a vow already... haha. I'm feeling okay now. ;)

Hang on to your hats...I'm working on it. Practiced 3 hours yesterday just for that. Will get the vid online once it's done. If you like it, I'll teach you how it's done then.
I'm glad that you've cooled over this unpleasant issue. Take care girl! ;)
[Ling] - December 6, 2004 08:56 AM (GMT)
Yeah I'm pretty back to normal now. Thanks for being a wonderful group of people who lends a listening ear! Hey Moondust, thanks! I'll really do appreciate your teaching and your effort for everything! This forum is too great to be true with these kind of kind-hearted and friendly people around! haha I'm too mushy perhaps... :D
Hmm anyway can I ask a friend along who likes magic too to this saturday's outing??? He's quite a beginner...
Once again, Thanks for everything! :)
Ning - December 6, 2004 09:01 AM (GMT)
Sure you can! Ask him to join SMC too! ^_^
Moondust - December 6, 2004 10:22 AM (GMT)
Hell yeah! You do that! Anyone's genuinely interested in magic will be embraced by it's sheer attraction, and we magicians will always strive to maintain this level of attraction.
illusionist - December 6, 2004 10:26 AM (GMT)

[Ling] - December 8, 2004 01:48 AM (GMT)
Bleah... I asked the guy who i usually teach him tricks... I kept asking and asking, and he didn't give a definite answer... He's kind of queer, ask him something, he will keep silent and leave me in dilemma... Oh yeah, he has Ninja-do that saturday evening, his schedule is like packed like sardines... That other one who took a course, hasn't reply my message yet...
[Ling] - December 8, 2004 01:53 AM (GMT)
Haha, me -- advocate?! nah... Cos they always asking me to teach them until I can bear no more irritation... But fret not, I only teach him DLs and flourishes. So it's like no use for them... haha. *Yeah, figured out Elmsey count overnight!*

illusionist - December 8, 2004 04:50 AM (GMT)

Kevin she is a lady lol... :D But lady can be tough too like my gf .. hahhahahaha :P
Kevin - December 8, 2004 04:57 AM (GMT)
Lady, Schmady. When doing magic, you have to BE IN CONTROL... who's gonna watch a wimp perform? If they don't respect you, then there's no need to perform... it'll be impact-less.
burr.

Hey...! Ninja-Do...something that I picked up when I was a teenager.
Fancy moves, nasty bruises. Get my arse kicked around every week...and I had to pay money to make myself suffer
[Ling] - December 8, 2004 10:56 AM (GMT)
Alright Kev. I do have power when performing, lots of it. Once i performed in front of a 30 plus crowd, ok not once, twice. And I dare say 20+ are stunned. And, yes I'm a lady... Thank you... I only feel dishearetd and all when people are ignorant when they damaged my decks, and thus felt sad... I dare say you will feel sad when your friends damaged your decks right? So it's a normal human reaction, not being a wimp...
<_<
