Title: Floating Fire Rose
Description: Help needed.
mattlee - April 27, 2007 05:14 AM (GMT)
Ok guys, I need your help. 3 things:
1. My gf and I are going to celebrate our 5th anniversay and I would like to surprise her with fire rose (performed by David Copperfield. Not sure who is the creator).
Where can I learn this trick? Is it even possible for someone like me to pull off? (My main scope is cards, coins, spoons. *YAWN* Been doing magic for about 2 years. Probably just left beginnner stage.)
2. Recently I heard that there's a problem with getting flas* p***r into SG, so I was wondering where can I get some. I tried TLMS, but the search didn't return anything. I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction.
3. If its not possible to perform fire rose, can anyone suggest other effects that I might try?
Thanks in advance.
Matt

I assume you're refering to Kevin James' Floating Rose. You can see this
here.

Do u really need to perform that for your girlfriend? If I am a girl, I think it's dumb. Besides, there are plenty of other things that you can do to show your sincerity. Write a song or something. I'm sure you can be more creative than just a "performance".
Anyway, how on earth are you going to be able to play fire safely in the public? Unless you are going to her home to show her that or something. Be careful not to burn the whole house down though.
In any case, you should think about this if you were to do any sort of magic for your loved ones. What is your intended message? well, that's important. What is it that you really want to say on that special day? "Will you marry me" or... "I'll always be there for you" or.... just simply, "I love you" ??? If you know the intended message, then it's just a matter of building up a trick towards that message.
Hmm.. ok. Well, you might disagree with me because maybe your girlfriend love roses alot and she'll kill herself if she don't get one. So, just to share something that I did on my last anniversary with my precious girlfriend... I did for her a rendition of cyril's Hershey Kisses trick (you can find this in youtube). Well, instead of producing chocolate from a selected card (which apparently my girlfriend is allergic to...), I had a piece of red crumpled paper with the writing "wo ai ni" on it being produced. Well, nothing significant rite? But the thing is I'm malay, and my girlfriend is a chinese, so it meant something for her. Anyway, sometimes guys just have to put themselves in the shoes of their girlfriend.
Hope I've inspired you and other guys out there in one way or another.
Cheers,
Shufi

The floating rose is pretty difficult to pull off in the public. (unless you are talking about performing it at home)

The floating rose is not an impromptu trick and will require a few important conditions to be satisfied before it can be performed. Additionally, I think that there needs to be at least a few months of work put into the illusion before you attempt to perform it.
Nathan Kranzo has an ebook that contains effects suitable performing for that special one. It's titled "That's Amore". It has many good ideas that you can adapt and use.

I do not think the floating fire rose is practical in your situation as I would assume that when you are declaring your "love", you would want to be in a close intimate conversation with her. I would think that hershey's kiss trick would be much more appropriate.
Another excellent one would be to do the rose to card. If you place a ring inside the rose head first, you can present it to her after the effect by tilting the flower onto her open palm, presenting her with the ring. (of course, I've no idea if you are going to propose or something, but that's just an idea)

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments. I really appreciate it.
The floating rose is something that had a great impact on me when I was a kid. I grew up watching David Copperfield and this is one effect that I remember vividly.
I always wanted to learn to perform it. But since its quite a complex effect, I guess I'll have to put that on hold first while I brush up my skills.
I'll probably be doing the hershey's kiss trick.

It's not really complex. Just requires a little practise. But it is not so suitable in your situation. It would be an excellent stage or parlour effect though, but for something close-up, it might not be advisable as you do need to keep a small distance between the spectator and you. I'm sure you do not want this to be just another "magic performance to a spectator" effect on your anniversary. You would want to be close and personal when doing a trick to your girlfriend and hershey's kiss or rose to card would be more suitable.

Be careful where you keep your herseys though. It melts easily in your mouth, hand and especially PANTS.

haha the hersheys trick. Does anyone know where to get that hersheys gimmick? i am currently using a make shift one and it kinda sucks. anyway, learning the hersheys trick is going to post one problem for you. After you have mastered it and you showed it to your girlfriend once, you can't possibly show it to her again. So chances are you are going to perform it to other girls. And your girlfriend is not going to be happy. Just a word of precaution.. :P

HAHAHAHA!
Yea i once walked home with my white pants which showed a very big brown patch on my side, so yea keep ur chocklets in boxes as they leak through the foil!

Its terrible carrying the kisses. I've tried a variation of using a poodle made up from pearls. (Easy to make, easy to carry)
Using the same principle of the Cyril's trick, I pop the poodle out instead of a chocolate.
joeltay81 - April 29, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
The truth is. Today I had sticky chocolate all over my pants. Left pocket. Argh!
sheeke - April 29, 2007 01:53 PM (GMT)
Sorry bro could you tell me what a poodle is?

haha! That was funny.
For the hershey effect, you can do it multiple times to the same person. Just change the effect each time. There are many variations of the effect.

Not literally -_-
I made one out of a string of pearls.

I had a friend whose handphone got stuck with chocolate because he placed his handphone in his trousers pocket with a chocolate. It was totally "sad case" cause not all the chocolate could be removed, some were stuck in the minute spaces like the charging socket, etc.
I think if you wanna use chocs though, use those that haven't been refridgerated yet (either buy fresh or place in a cool place) cause those that have been placed in a fridge, they tend to melt immediately the moment they're out.

I'm still giggling at Exo's post... a picture really says a million words!
Anyways! Yes, as out of the point as this is... a poodle is NOT to be confused as being the same as a lamb, as some duped Japanese taitais found out otherwise, when their "poodles" refused to bark *roll eyes*
 Exo, you're so funny...
