Title: Hollow Or Light Weight Coins?
apercu - April 28, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain "hollow coins?" I'm looking for gaffed coins that look like US quarters or half dollars but that weigh only a fraction of what the actual coins weigh.

I think he wanna use it for coin effects that uses IT? That's why he need light weight coins.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, what I want to do is make a coin rise with an ITR. I think the glue might be my best bet.

Wouldn't it be suspicious if you were making a foreign coin rise?
Have you tried using local coins to see if it works too?

I think it's possible to do the rise with 20cent if you are using local coins. However the trick will be more impressive if you rise a heavy half dollar. Just let them examine the coin if they are suspicious.

I think a SG 20cent is good for IT. i disagree with ACE for that levitating something heavy is more impressive because the the spec is not suppose to know you are using a IT and even if they do know, they are not suppose to know how much weight an IT can carry. Spending that much money to get a hollow half dollar just to levitate it, i think it is a little bit not worth it.

Yup, I agree that it is not necessary to levitate a half dollar.
However, it is really more impressive to see a magician levitating somthing heavier. Imagine you see a magician leviating a 20cent.... then you see another levitating a half dollar... then you see cyril levitating an apple and finally you see criss angel levitaing someone off the street. Methods aside, I'm sure most people will find the latter levitation act more impressive.
Yes the audiene should not know that IT is being used. But if they suspect some invisible force is supporting the object (esp Singaporeans -_-) , it is a good convincer to show them that the object is too heavy to be manipulated.
Plus I guess there are people here who perform with half dollars instead of singapore coins. It will be strange for them to suddenly take out a 20 cent and levitate it cos they are using half dollars for their other coin magics.

It's all about what the specs see and believe. The specs have no knowledge of the IT. You create the magic, with any coin. |
It is not about the IT at all.
It is about the relationship between the weight of the object levitated VS the reactions.
Like what I mentioned, it is really more impressive to see a magician levitating somthing heavier. Of course, you need to spend more time and money, but remember we are magician.
Our job is to bring entertainment to the audience. And for me I want to birng them the best. If the "best" requires you to practice more or do more set up etc, I will do it.
