Hello people!
I'm Chaowei, 23, currently studying in NTU.
Experience wise, i think i can be considered a newbie. Was interested in magic when i was much younger, but for some reason i didnt continue. And somehow the interest came back like a few weeks ago. lol.
From wad i have read, guess most of you here are quite pro magicians. I have alot to learn! Been trying to master the classic p*** and the DL, but not much progress though. These are the basics right?
I'm also looking around for Bobo's coin magic book. It's like the BIBLE of coin magic from what i have heard.
Yup. Thats all. Hope to make new friends and learn new stuff here!

Hello Chaowei and welcome to SMC.
From your introduction I presume that you are into close-up magic dealing mainly with cards and coins?
Actually I don't think the Classic P*** and the DL are very "basic" moves. In fact they are technically more advanced than some other sleights. You might want to consider picking up some starter material in the form of books (e.g. Royal Road to Card Magic) or DVDs, depending on your preferred mode of learning. I'm not too certain about coin magic but I'm sure there are many others on SMC that can point you in the right direction with regards to good materials on coin work.
Do join us for gatherings or meet-ups in the future, where you might even meet some fellow NTU students. In the meantime, make yourself comfortable and enjoy your stay! ;)

Hey Chaowei...welcome to the house!
I'm from NTU too. Maybe next time can 'session' to practise sleights.
Which school you from? I'm from NBS (Acc)

HI Chaowei,
Firstly, welcome to the forums! Hope that you will enjoy your stay here!
Adrian has practically sum it up for you. Though a DL is kinda simple thing to do, the bare mechanics this is totally different. the same goes for a Classic P***. Royal Road to Card Magic will be a good book, as it is a continuous guide to improve your card work.
Bobo is definitely THE book for coin work. Perhaps, the next time we meet up, Jerome Muscle Pass Fang can show you a thing or two! HAHAHa
Welcome to the forums, Hope to see you at our next gathering!

Hi, Chaowei!!
Another one from NTU here, great! ^_^
I'm from NTU too - SBS. Which school are you from?? Perhaps like chteo suggests, we can session next sem in school when time allows.
By the way, I believe if you're looking for Bobo coin magic book, Borders seem to have it.. I remember seeing it there before.
Welcome to SMC!!
A.

Please don't get the wrong idea that we are all very pro. There are at most eh... 3 pros in the whole forum, some are semi-pro (they do singing too), while most of the people who would bother to reply you are totally "pian chia" (ok lah, only me). :P
We don't want a case where you come for the gathering and get disillusioned about the standard of SMC. :ph43r:
That being said, welcome!!

well, most of you are confident and good enough to perform in public (eg. schools, to friends). Thats pro to me. LOL.
erm.. 'pian chia'? whats that?

Hi Chaowei,
Welcome to our little family of Magicians in Singapore. From the previous posts, I can see that you're interested in getting Bobo's Coin Magic. Its a very good book on Coin Magic. All Coin enthusiasts would definitely have a copy of it. One down side of the book is that, some of the description is not very clear so you'll have to read over and over again to fully comprehend the sleight. Other than that, this book covers almost every coin sleight there is around. If you prefer learning through DVDs, MagicMakers has released a 4 DVD set of Modern Coin magic. I think it covers almost everything inside the book. You can check it out too but it'll cost you at least 10 times more than the book.
I see that you're having difficulties with the Classic P*** and DL. You're on the right path of learning and that’s very good. Because the DL and Classic P*** are like the most essential sleight in Cards and Coins respectively. No worries about having difficulties, when we all 1st started out we all can't do it well too. It takes time and through constant practice, you'll be able to reap the fruits of your hard work. Do join us for our gatherings and we can all give you a pointer or two on techniques.
Although we many of us not at the pro level, as our MuscleAxl friend would alwasy say. "We are all at least Buay Pai ($25 category) or Buay Pai Ley ($50-$75 category) Haha…
Enjoy your stay here and hope to see you soon.
Cheers
Jerome
PS: Pian Chia means that we're not pros but we're still able to bluff our way through ^_^

I used to be from NTU too!
Welcome to the forums! I'm new to the forums as well and I'm still trying to get the hang of things. These people are friendly to the point of being freaky :D , so feel free to ask any questions you might have on any topic in magic and you will get the equivalent of a master's thesis for an answer.
They also organize outings, lectures and sessions, so check those out.
Have fun here! B)

Haha.. Ok. Well, i got the book. It definitely covers alot of stuff! Didnt know there are so many ways to keep a coin out of sight with ur hands. =)
Though most of them are quite awkard for me now. Guess its practice practise and practice for me..
And it does get abit unconfusing. But DVD's are way too expensive for me now.
