Title: That Moment
Description: Remember your first DL?
Shade - May 2, 2007 07:59 AM (GMT)
This is a very simple effect I did a week back. I'm posting it here simply as a reminder that sometimes we don't need SUPER SLEIGHTS to make magic.
It's like the first moment I ever saw a card transformation. It is simply - in a word - magical.
I think all of us want our spectators to feel the same way as the young lady in the video. Check out her expression.
Shade
PS: It's a double phased routine where two cards are selected. I edited out the part where I had the second card selected.
That De-Lightful Moment.

Umm. Yes. I think I did. Anyway, we do want to establish rapport with the audience right?

HAHA sure bo?
Joking haha..
Hmm ive heard of a patter that goes hmm give me your hand and ill like to hold it for a moment however the trick you are going to see next has nothing to do with me holding your hand.
Found it a little bit funny.
Edited my post to say, Shade i salute you for your VERY VERY clam composture. Sorry if i spelt composture wrongly.

I used a similar line before, asking a girl to look deeply in my eyes, and then joked about how I love being a magician and how people do every single thing I tell them to do. Always gets laughter.

LOL - You guys are terrible.
Yes - it's true that magic presents us with lots of opportunities to impress girls and even sometimes make 'contact' with them. But I would NEVER abuse the moment that way. You could get into a lot of trouble if your intentions are less than pure.
The only reason I 'adjusted' her hand was because I was going to place the card into her palm in a moment and I didn't want her to turn the card over on her own - it would be premature and ruin the buildup of the effect. I always work these little psychological 'control' moments into my effects to establish who's in charge. My handling her hand so that it's in the 'right' position establishes early that I am in charge and she was to follow instructions. It works at a subconscious level. And it always works. ;P
But I think this point bears repeating. One should NEVER attempt to cop a feel under the guise of performing magic. It is very disrespectful to your audience.

Haha can you all stop slamming Shade?? I saw the performance and the touch of the hand was so benign..
But shade, i really like your presentation. Very calm and steady. And you're all dressed up. Haha. If only the video featured your face too.

Haha. You didn't spell composure wrongly but you spelt calm wrongly though.
Anyway, nice performance there~! But i have one question. How come it seems like everybody is performing at JJC. Sufi had a clip where he did it there, so did dry_gin... and now shade? *scratches head* hahah

ZiAn: Thanks for your vote of confidence; it's appreciated!
RedDeck: sheeke -did- spell composure wrongly. Look again. haha.
Spelling's not a magician's forte; that's why we need the cards to spell for us.

After watching the video, I cannot stand the fact that the gal was half way lost. Maybe she isn't, but seriously her face is coming up with, LOST!!
Somemore Shade revealed the card 2nd time, NO ONE SAYS anything!! Oh my god, either Shade have the ultimate HUNK body that everyone is drooling at, or else.. Hai..
LOL!! Okie, joking huh, Nice presentation using DL. But nowadays, I wonder how many DLs I seen on magicians le, getting lesser and lesser. Me also. :)

What talking you?
chanzian - May 4, 2007 08:41 AM (GMT)
Haha. What is Larry talking about? Are you saying that the trick is good but simple or are you critisizing Shade's performance.
Anyway what do you mean you're seeing lesser and lesser of DLs on magicians? As in you hardly see magicians perform the DL? Are you kidding me? In fact just the contrary. I have not seen a magicians that does not do a DL at all.

Yeah, actually i thought you did at first too. But upon watching it again, i heard you saying the eight of clubs during the "second time". :D Just a coincidence that it was at that position, i guess.

:o My bad!! Seriously not really listening to what he is saying but looking at the cards. LOL!! Okie, my bad for it.
DLs are like basic for all cards magicians, just that the routines that involved them is millions, but the freq of using them is I will say not alot also.
Maybe its just me, sometime I just feel that doing something that involve less of a chance that the audience will flip over the top card is better.
