Title: Who Is Your Favourite Magician?
Description: Who inspires you and who do you love?
chanzian - May 2, 2007 11:14 AM (GMT)
Hi guys,
Im kinda bored so i got all this time to think about 'boliao' stuff. Anyway, this thread is about who your all time favourite magician is, preferably in your own scope of magic. Basically, it is about who has inspired you to think about magic the way you do now. Maybe you like his handling, in cards, coins, or whatever you do. Or maybe you like the way he thinks, how he structure his magic routines. So maybe simply because you love the way he presents his magic.
Also bear in mind that this is mainly about who you like, and not who you don't like. Let not turn this into another heated discussions that SMC has experienced so much of recently.
My favourite magician is David Williamson. I have his Magic Farm DVD and i hope to have more in the future. Well i love the way he handles his cards, it is very very natural, very soft, very elegant and very very good. I also like his presentation style. It's funny, and when doin close up, he builds a very good relationship with his spectator. He is like a fatherly figure wanting to show you something, rather then acting as if he wants to trick or fool you. But sometimes he is over the top and it can be quite exhausting to watch him. Nevertheless, he has inpired me in many ways, especially in the way i think about magic.
What about you guys?

Well, my favourite magician is David copperfield. Last time when I was a kid, i had watched his magic shows on TV. To me, I feel that he is a good entertainer and also a person who does magic in a very elegant manner.
After I had watched so much of his shows, I had found that magic is so magical and thus being inspired by him. It was during my primary school days, when I started to buy those magic books that teached simple tricks.
There are few of his routines which I like are "Grandpa aces", floating roses and also his stage performances. I like the way he presents his magic to his audience and also bring in the crowds together. Although there are a lot of great magicians around the world, I still prefer David Copperfield. :)

I LOVE David Williamson too (and Rocky of course)! But he is not my no.1 fav magician. Still, definitely, one of the best comedy magician living.

David Copperfield is one of my favourite magicians. His illusions are pure magic if one were to suspend the disbelief. I enjoy the emotional hooks he uses in illusions like "Flying", "Snow", to connect with the audience. And his comedy is very funny too like the Vanishing Egg.
Another of my favourite magician is Whit Haydn. I love his presentation and the character he plays. Besides that, he has worked on many classic effects and made them his own. Reading his material is very inspiring and helpful in presentation.

As for me ... I was inspired by Cyril to start learning magic. So I guess my favorite magician would be cyril.

I would say that my all time favourite would be David Copperfield. He's so funny. Went for his concert when I was younger and it really was good. I like the way Cyril personalises tricks. Tommy Wonder is also amazing. So natural and so hard to find fault with his performances.

It will be copperfield for me!!
HAnds up please!!
His act is so magical and so humurous i could watch his shows over and over again, my favouriate is the vanishing egg.
What are yours?

It is hard for me to exactly say who my all-time favorite magician is...
That's because I like each magicians for different aspects. They are all my favorites in a sense. For example: JC Sum - for his dynamism; David Copperfield - for his stage presence; Doug Henning - for his love towards magic that is so apparent in his performances... so on and so forth.
But if I'm really forced to pick one, I would think it'd be Lu Chen (for now). I like his personality, the way his personality comes out for even magic like card manipulation - the cheeky boyish charm.  He's also quite unpretentious, friendly towards his fans (yes, from what i heard and know, he has quite a following in Taiwan)...
A. :P

Whao..David Copperfeild sure looks like he's damn popular.
4 to David Copperfeild
2 to David Williamson
2 to Cyril and
1 to lu chen.
Actually im starting to think that there is a overwhelming number of magicians named David. So if you want your son to be a Magician, name him David. :off:

As a laymen before, i really enjoyed watching Cyril perform. After learning more about the art, i think my favourite, after tough fight with Paul Harris and Daniel Garcia, would have to be
Jay Sankey
chanzian - May 4, 2007 06:42 AM (GMT)
true true. It sure seem like Jay Sankey thinks about nothing but magic. He is good in coins, cards, and mentalism. It really is quite amazing. And his structuring of his routines, quite smart also.

Definately copperfield. No doubt. I remember attending one of his shows at the indoor stadium many years back and it was a blast. He made magic magical and cool, too bad i doubt he will ever come back to sinapore anymore

Luis de Matos  No doubt! If you don't know him, do yourself a favor and check his magic on youtube... he's such a dreamboat!!!

For presentation style my favourite magician is Whit Haydn.
muscleaxl - May 7, 2007 05:33 AM (GMT)
Hmm... would I be flamed if I say it is David Blaine?
Ok, actually there are a few favourites:
1. Shade: He can cheat like nobody's business and he likes to cheat.
2. Jerome: He can muscle-pass like nobody's business and he likes to muscle-pass.
3. Adrian: He can eh.... make the effect so lame lie nobody's business and nobody does it better.
4. Gordon: He eh... he eh.... he bothers to watch what I perform and that;s no mean feat.
:P
Ok, seriously my favourite is David Copperfield. Charismatic, internationally known, amazing illusions and even dated a supermodel... what more can you ask for?

Dai vernon, kenton knepper
BlUeCoWz - October 15, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
Jeff McBride, Eugene Berger, Lawrence Khong and Max Maven..
Jeff Mcbride has been a great inspiration to me especially with his kind of magic that is especially visual and his methods of teachings..
nottieboy - November 4, 2007 02:35 AM (GMT)
same here, i am very inspired by Jeff Mcbride, Daryl, The Professor Dai Veron, Michael Ammar, Frank Garcia, Tenkai, Johnny Thompson, and many more like Lee Grabiel.. More names some I forgotten like Howard Thurston, I love the way he throws card.
I am very glad that magicians like Jeff Mcbride, Daryl, especially the Professor. They are people who open up the magic circle to many of us, especially The Professor Dai Veron, without his hardwork, magic may always be a mystery to many even till this day. ^_^
Faris Magic Hands - November 4, 2007 04:34 PM (GMT)
Well for me it will be Daniel Garcia. I like how he approaches people. He does it in a fun and happy way. His sleights are also good( especially white or wheat). I love him. haha.
wei - November 4, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
:off:
I agree that white or wheat is extremely nice, but i feel that the 'crucial move' is a very risky one. (Im talking abt the 2nd move, just before the revealation of the selected card) I think there's quite a high chance of it being exposed. But if you do it well, it literally blows the spec's mind away..
I havent performed or practised the move enough, but i have doubts whether this will work more often than not..
Anyone has performed this trick before? Or mastered the 'move'? Care to share a few pointers?
qureyoon - December 19, 2007 01:06 PM (GMT)

gregory wilson
very funny and alot of awesome impromptu magic
derren brown
very amazing tv show
angkiki - February 3, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
My favourite magician is definitely Daniel Garcia. His really relaxed when performing and really performs well.
:off: Anyone tried white or wheat ? I think its quite impossible to practice infront of a mirror cause you need someone that can determine if it works or not. Just curious since i find it un-achievable.
VictorNg - February 3, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
Actually i do have several favourite magicians.. but for now, the one i like the most is Penn and Teller!!! as well as JeffMcbride...
cstrike - February 15, 2008 03:22 AM (GMT)
My favourite is David Copperfield because he is the first big magician I got to know about when I was young. And he is very confident. And a little bit dirty in a good way, you know... not so simple. Yea.
