Title: Coin In Bottle
Description: Coin stuck in factory sealed bottle

Ace - May 25, 2007 03:08 PM (GMT)
S – Slam
A bottle is shown empty. The magician borrows a coin and asks the audience to stare at the bottom of the bottle making sure there is nothing hidden. The magician then slams the coin through the bottom of the bottle. The coin is stuck inside the bottle and it’s impossible to take the coin out without damaging the bottle. Everything can be examined.

S 2 - Sealed and Stuck
A factory sealed bottle is shown empty on all sides. The magician borrows a coin and melts it through the factory sealed bottle. Like Slam the coin is stuck inside the bottle too. Everything can be examined

S 3 - Signed, Sealed and Stuck.
Similar to S 2 but the coin is signed by the audience. Everything can be examined.

This is the video of S 2 - Sealed and Stuck
Sorry for the poor quality. I’m using a web cam here. Cannot find anyone to lend me their video camera. -_-
Slam did not show out well on web cams. I’ll get a better video camera before posting a video of it.

I really like this.... knowing that coin and bottle are examinable before and after.

POWER man !!!

Ace - May 26, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
Haha yup! Both coin and bottle can be examined before and after the effect! =)

What should I do if I wanna market this?

There are a few options in my mind now.

1. Sell it on my own web site
2. Market the effect through ellusionist, VinnyMarini.com or murphy's.

I really hope to share this effect with the magic community but I don't even know how to start doing it. Sigh =(

I had not seen anything like my effect on the market and I suppose my effect is original.

hihs - May 27, 2007 08:16 AM (GMT)
hmm if u really want, u could send an email to both ellu or penguin. both major magic distributer.

Jlowhy - May 27, 2007 08:37 AM (GMT)
Ellusionist is currently working on 3 Coin In Bottle effects that are invented by Nick Verna. You might want to check with Nick Verna or Ellusionist whether your effect is original in method.

Also, you could send a higher quality video to reputable, knowledgeable magicians who are well aware of what's being put out on the market. Aaron Smith of the Magic Depot recently held a Q&A session on marketting your own products/effects. Can be found at :

http://magicvideodepot.com/forums/view_top...470&forum_id=54

You do need an account there to view though.

I greatly discourage you from approaching Penguin because they seem to have this close relation with Magic Makers and they might just rip you off.

Ace - May 27, 2007 08:53 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the advices!! =)

Ok i did a little bit of research and seems like one of the 3 effect sounds exactly like my S 2 Sealed and stuck.

However, it is not mentioned that if the coin is stuck inside the bottle or the coin could be poured out of the bottle. If the coin is not stuck inside , then it will only be as good as Sealed In by Alex Ward.

Also they did not mentioned that the coin can be signed, hence it will be very different form my S 3 Signed Sealed and Stuck.

I am thinking of posting my effect on the magic cafe but seems like they blocked my email address =(

Any kind souls willing to help me post the video link on magic cafe?

LarryDK - May 28, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
Good work, will like to see this live.. Nice.. :)

Ace - May 28, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
Thanks Larry! =)

BTW I sent the clip to ellusionist and now they are interested in knowing the method. =)

I sent the clip not knowing that they are working on their own CTB effects as well.

Do you guys think I should let them know the method?

christo - May 28, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
maybe u can try to get the terms and agreement thingy done with them first
just in case they rip off your idea and ask some guy like Brad christian to act as if their own product
:)

Ace - May 28, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
Sigh, it is not that I don't trust them. Ellusionist have real good reputation.

But my effect clashes with the CTB effect they are working on right now. >_< Our effects sounds so similar...just that they did not release much info and video clips of their effect. >_<

Can anyone tell me how do I obtain a copyright for a trick? This is the 1st time I'm doing this and I'm quite lost now. @_@ Thanks in advance!

Btw Thanks Jlowhy for posting the video for me!! =)

bigbadwolf - May 29, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
Looks really good  But is the coin REALLY in the bottle? The clip ended rather abruptly. Waiting for you to release it dude.

But I would suggest you selling it on your own. You control the price, and you'll get the profits. Ellusionist pays you only in royalties or maybe for a certain percentage. But with Ellusionist, you will definitely get the fame easier.

(I'm discouraging you to approach E because in case you release it, I will not have to pay the 'E' price, which is more expensive.   *joking)

Good effect!

Jlowhy - May 29, 2007 01:28 AM (GMT)
Ellusionist is very reputable and they will definitely keep your method confidential even if they don't end up producing it.

It's not just royalties that they pay you but also a one time fee that is quite a lot. A few thousands?

I don't like Ellusionist because if they release a product, it means every other Blaine-wannabe will get it. (heh..cause sometimes some things are so good I wished less people knew about it.)

But anyway, Ellusionist will help to settle nearly everything. All you have to do is tell them the method, and they will set about IMPROVING the method, trying to work on it to see if it can be taken a further step and explore variations. What you get in the end is a very very good product that is creditted to you. Also, they take care of all the filming, etc.

If you were to engage other companies, I'm not sure they'll have the same kind of commitment. There are other alternatives like Bigblindmeda, UK Based, that could help too. I think they would be quite excited about it.

LarryDK - May 29, 2007 01:58 AM (GMT)
PM Magicdow, he knows about the steps to copyright an effect.

If it is me, I will not market out the effect, I will use it as an individual effect of my own. Why? Because if you sell this effect, you lost the effect that makes you different from the rest. Take an example, Sinful. When no one knows how sinful is done, everyone thinks Criss Angel is a devil, impossible magic. But once the method is spread, everyone talks about I know how the coin gets into the can. (Its just an example, don't flame me) For a good effect, I really think the creator can copyright it, and make it exclusive to himself, and people pay him to see the effect.

Once you sell it online, you are getting a unknown amount and the piracy of it might be abused.

Its up to you then. :)

Jlowhy - May 29, 2007 02:15 AM (GMT)
Heh, alternatively, copyright the effect, then sell the performing rights to a famous magician for a large amount of money to perform it on TV. After that, when everyone goes wow, market the effect and reap the gains.

Icy - May 30, 2007 12:55 PM (GMT)
It looks very good on a web cam. However, my experience tells me that web cam can make the most difficult moves appear effortless...

Anyway, thats not the point. I would really like to know the viewable angles of this effect. Can it be viewed from the side?

Also, when you say its stuck in the bottle, do you mean that it is stick on the bottom of the bottle? As if there is some mysterious adhesive on the coin?

Apart from that, it seems like a pretty effect, at least from a web cam. :D

Ace - May 30, 2007 01:12 PM (GMT)
Actually it is not easy to perform magic on web cams. Try doing a snap change or shapeshifter, you will end up exposing cos the web cam will help u "slow motion" the thing.

The sinking effect looks alot better in live performances. By this weekend I'll upload a few more performance video. Hopefully I can get videos of me performing the effect to real people.

Btw "the coin is stuck inside the bottle" means that the coin is bigger than the mouth of the bottle. =) Meaning you cannot get it out unless you cut the bottle.

Angle issues will be covered if i release the effect. Don't worry the angles are not much of a problem in this effect. =)

wwdbs - May 30, 2007 11:43 PM (GMT)
Another option to market the effect is through MJM magic.
MJM marketed & released an effect called soft spot last year after viewing the vidio clip of it on youtube.

Ace in case you need a good video camera to capture a good quality clip, please PM me. I can arrange that.

muscleaxl - May 31, 2007 04:49 AM (GMT)
Yes... in case you need somebody to perform to, can look for me!!! Then we'll have coffee. :off:

The angles is very easy to manage. =) And you don't need to be a coin master to perform this trick. This illusion is practical and easy to perform.

No, Sealed & Stuck is not impromptu. Looks like quite a few magicians prefer an impromotu CTB routine. Hence I included the impromptu version of Sealed & Stuck in my DVD. However the bottle is not factory sealed in the impromptu version. =)
