Have any one performed in any events by SP before?
Spyros.Yuan
o0oKIRAo0o - July 13, 2009 03:45 AM (GMT)
well for your info and any sp students out there, so far as i can remember no sp magician have perform for sp in terms of school events like NDOC and such.
for sp community was not so active until recently if to trace the post dates. personally i love doing cca so i was think of a club for magician to gather and amaze one another and as well as doing shows for SP.
so i was hopping to meet those who are active here to agree to this idea.
hope you can join us in our up coming gathering. just a small note, which class your from? i am from DEC/FT/2B/24
Spyros - July 13, 2009 05:26 AM (GMT)
I see.. I'm from Deee/FT/2B/22
I've alr check up on the CCA issues...
There used to be a Magicians' Club in SP before, but they had to shut it down due to poor management. If you are planning to start up a club again, we have to note that other than performance issues, there is adminstrative issues, proposal if we are going to suggest events, members to handle, how are we gonna take in members( teaching them? or only accept magic hobbyist and magicians?), etc..
I went thru this with a SAA officer and realised its much more work and planning for a magicians' club compared to any other clubs due to the fact that we have to keep techniques from being exposed unnecessarily.
I guess it might be workable since theres a small community. ^_^
For me.. I did perform at the SEEE Immersion Programme for Sec School students.. and my partner performed on the ISC FO.
Any of you guys into stage magic? :)
Spyros.Yuan
o0oKIRAo0o - July 13, 2009 12:23 PM (GMT)
woots finally someone who have knowledge, well who i can speak to freely. well i felt its should be a club for us to gather, management wise i got a rough idea, i just need someone who agree to it.
which SAA officer did you talk to? membership i felt its for those who have experiences if they really want to join and learn, maybe we provide some sort of lesson? and like classes, but we collect membership fee. events wise i thought of stage magic, and street for us. i had brought up to the SAA director, i think a year ago, he say it was a good idea. and look forward to it. i got a small list of supporters on my side now but we need at least 30 signatures.
DEEE2B22??? you taking MCT, LD and AS? your friday lecture is it at LT14(B) or LT4A(B)??? if yes we are lecture mates!!!
Spyros - July 13, 2009 03:53 PM (GMT)
haha..
I've talked to ning. I got no prob getting any number of ppl to support but the thing is this.
1. Obviously, magic cant be taught for free else the value and its secret will be exposed unnecessarily.
Giving lessons with payment is one way of solving the problem.. but another new problem arises. Who are we to give classes? Look at SP Dancesport, they got trainers who took part in the world games. SP DJ, they got DJ rattle who took part in the world deejay competition and got 4th.
The list goes on, comparing to classes and fees type of ccas.
2. If we were to open it only to magicians, our member rate will be super duper low for obvious reasons. LOL. :P
Oh.. you can do stage magic?? thats cool!
I'm taking MCT but not the rest you mentioned. maybe you are in the same MCT lecture as me? on wednesdays and LT 14?
Spyros.Yuan
o0oKIRAo0o - July 13, 2009 04:03 PM (GMT)
wow ning, well lucky it was not angelvin or the other officers... if not i think it will be hard sia.
well for trainers wise, your looking at SMC someone here definitely willing to teach us. and events like annual magic show, or a carnival where we all use a karnival deck? or karnival midnight.
well we can start by opening to only magician, and people who they recommend, and enthusiast, but we restrict the info and knowledge to the enthusiast until a certain period of time, something like a probation period.
well i want to try out stage and street, not i know. =P but running my blogshop is restricting my money sia.
well i think we different class, my mct is on monday 10am.
o0oKIRAo0o - July 13, 2009 04:05 PM (GMT)
oh yah we teach them flourishing first maybe? like those stuff from cardshark88 on youtube?

I won't be joining the club since I recently graduated but here are some of my thoughts.
About flourishes it depends on whether the enthusiasts like card flourishes or other kinds of magic. Some might not like card tricks as much as coin magic, etc. But I think any magician should at least learn basic sleights and flourishes as much of this art uses cards.
If a layman wanted to join a club, you might consider giving him a "trial" on flourishes and can only be admitted when he can perform it well. It should be a good way to determine their commitment so as to avoid people who join the club and quit after learning some secrets.
Also, I've joined the SP magician club when it existed about 2~3 years back. I was a layman and just a bit interested in magic. I was told (politely) that I should learn a few magic tricks to stay in the club. I thought about it and it was quite reasonable as magic is supposed to be protected instead of keep learning them off other members. If you set the club up, you may want to enforce a rule to have a new trick every month to ensure that they will improve their skills instead of just being "few tricks pony". Unfortunately, something happened to the club some time after I joined and I lost my interest in magic until I got inspired again recently.
Spyros - July 15, 2009 05:47 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... there's quite a number of concerns.. Until a structure is created.. its not advisable to start the club in case of complications =)
Btw.. Any one joining "SP GOT TALENT" ?
o0oKIRAo0o - July 16, 2009 02:08 AM (GMT)
why not you try??? i dont think i am up to the standard yet...
sorry for late reply, was helping out in NDP.
i did more research, according to SAA, the club was never officially lunched, as there was no documents to account for the club. and currently the person we most likely need to get through is david and Mr Liew... so shouldnt be a problem ba...
now we just need to hope more magician come join the gathering on 24th july... >.< then we can see if there is enough support in sp...
Spyros - July 16, 2009 06:10 AM (GMT)
I've already sent in the application form. Will be going for auditions at 3 or 4 or August. haha.. if i get into the finals then i'll let you know.
I believe there are ppl interested in magic..but there wont be much magicians. Not many are too much into magic until they rank it as one of their interest.
nottieboy - July 16, 2009 01:22 PM (GMT)
Hey guys!
I'm Edwin =)
I also from SP but have graduated this year. I'm in the SP magician club few years ago.
During the running of the clubs when it was still there, there are a lot of things to oversee and such. Because previously, the club itself is under a section of LifeArts. So the things we do, we have to report to the LifeArts President, in any case we do not have a teacher adviser directly under the magic club.
Things like, attendance, funds, program outlines, enough ACTIVE members to run the committee. Not to forget school work is increasing each day, and once u graduated, different people will run the club differently.
Probably u may want to re-consider setting up the club, cause there are too much things to consider setting up a club.
I remembered back in the time, when the club set up. Almost every week was performance week for us, we practise hard, get ourselves stress & nervous because it will be our turn to perform. It was tough training though. fun also.
o0oKIRAo0o - July 16, 2009 02:56 PM (GMT)
Hi nottieboy thanks for your experience, well no matter which club you go there will always be ups and downs but what makes a club pull through is the bond between members.
Well if you say a branch of a club, there isn't much to be consider a club. but its a good start for us magician.
spyros good luck then!!! if you get in we all will be behind you!!! (i think or at least i know i will)
yup yup so we just need to let things go with the flow, hopping all will pull together.
