SMOKE RINGS - A One Card Link by David Forrest

Singled out by the legendary Paul Harris for inclusion on his 'True Astonishment' DVD set, SMOKE RINGS is a truly incredible impromptu miracle!

'If I only had one playing card with which to do magic, this is the routine that I'd do, bar none.'
- David Forrest (from the introduction of this manuscript)

SMOKE RINGS is a completely impromptu, 100% examinable linking card effect which requires no preparation whatsoever. Only one card is used, nothing else. No additional gimmcks are required, your hands are clearly empty. This is anywhere, anytime magic with nothing more than a single playing card.

Effect

Any card is borrowed or freely chosen by a spectator and signed. With both hands unmistakably empty, two impromptu rings are torn from the card. Without any overt actions or suspicious cover, the two rings are magically linked together, one ring hanging from the other. Such is their linked condition that one ring must actually be torn in order to free the other - one ring is unmistakably displayed as being torn.To finish, the torn ring is completely restored and everything is handed out for examination. There is nothing to find. The rings may be kept by the spectator as a souvenir. Believe it!

After many years of secrecy, SMOKE RINGS can now be yours!

Review by Lucian J., Resident Advisor of Magic Boutique

Smoke Rings by David Forrest
The linking card effect has been a staple of many magic innovators over the last couple of decades. Seminal work on this plot includes that done by Harry Lorayne, Roger Crabtree, Sixten Beme, Sylvain Mirouf, Andrew Mayne and the incredible Paul Harris.

So is Smoke Rings worth investigating in the light of such illustrious company? I think so. While the fastidious magician will no doubt point out discrepancies in the display and the fact that there is no “dangle” (connoisseurs of the plot will know what I mean), David’s method has something significant going for it, namely, it is completely impromptu, examinable and requires no preparation.

The effect is direct, the outcome is visual and a linking card is a welcome departure from the usual pick a card trick. Recommended.

Rating: 5 of 5 Stars!

Personal Message:
Having been in magic for over 2 decades, Lucian J. did a great job with the review, having done much research into the linking card effects available in the market and then some ;) If you ever considered a linking card routine, this is seriously it! The handling is the most professional one I've seen and I really like David Forrest's ideology and method. The instructions are clear too, and it'd be an effect you possibly wouldn't want to leave home without!
