Title: Used Cards
Description: What do you do with your used cards?

alafista - June 18, 2007 02:48 PM (GMT)
I was wondering what do you people do with all those used that underwent so much torture that it becomes sticky and crumpy and are no longer good for anything much.

Personally when my cards becomes sticky I just use them for practicing card springing or making use them to make gimmicks. Can't think of anymore ways to recycle them.

How about you people?

There was a topic started long time ago. Anyway, you can use it to pratice your Mercury Fold.

Use them as bookmarks for reading magic books. Books tend to have so much content and there are usually a few things here and there that we'll like to look back upon. Just put the card on that page. You can even write notes on them.

You can always,

Peel
Practice Torn
Fold
Throw
Practice manipulation

and my favourite,

Springing them out of my window.

One, use them for tricks tat requires the card to be torn.

Two, I use them to "test-drive" new card manipulation techniques that I have just learnt. So i wouldn't damage my practice deck so easily + sticky equals cards wouldn't fall so easily also. So its practical to use the old cards as a test drive deck when i'm raw to a new technique.

Three, use them to make gimmicks.

Lastly, all other excess decks that have been sitting there for the year can be given to friends and relatives just before Chinese New Year. Not only will it save them the trouble of going to 7-11 to buy a deck or two, it really is a great way to clear room for yourself. Plus, they will also like the special decks like the ghost or tigers as they will most probably have never seen them before. If they are grateful enough, maybe you'll find that you get more ang pow $$$ than your previous years. LOLZ~!!! :D

You guys notice that worn out decks springs well?

christo - June 19, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
Yea worn out deck are softer and is easier to do spring as well as many manipulations
A worn out deck can do pressure fan better and nicer!
A worn out deck also good to spring cards everywhere without feeling hearache
A worn out card can be signed n give away as souvenir.
A worn out card is actually more practical than a new deck!!! haha

hey.

I would like to emphasise the "sign and give away" from the above post. I use them with a newer deck. Do sankey's graffitti but instead of the name just being hidden and then revealed on the card, I use some sort of colour change to produce the name on the card then I might proceed to do an ambitious card. Sometimes I will even pull out and envelope from my pocket proving that I somehow knew they would pick that card all along and that I would like to give to them as a souvenir to show my appreciation for them. I then sign the card and write my contact details and give it to them.

There is soo much you can do that I wonder how come you don't have some favourite way of handling it. Cheers, I hope you learnt something.

Ok I'll be very honest right now.
I have tens of used cards.

And the irony was, that I bought new boxes to keep them...
Complete with bicycle Stickers and all.

And while I've assumed that I would use them for practicing "Torn & Restored" effects...
I even thought I could experiment gaffing my own cards.
Somehow, I just never touched them anymore.

In fact they're just there.. lying in my drawer.
I can't seem to think of any use for them!

I just can't seem to grasp the idea of performing for people with used decks.
Even if I've gotta spring, tear or rip them off...
I always have to use a new deck.

Thus I have absolutely NO idea what to make of them.
If someone has an idea please let us know too.

I realised that after leaving the cards alone, airing it, for a few days, it gets better and less sticky. If you rotate your decks, it can last longer. I don't know if this works, but does using "Fanning Powder" help? My bottom line is, don't give up on your old deck once you have a new one. You can still use it for many purposes.

Make DIY Gaff Cards?
DIY Shimmed Cards?
Practise XCM moves that are dangerous and may drop cards onto floor.

I think that I would only give away my old decks to those coffee-shop uncles if I have ten or more such old decks.

I but does using "Fanning Powder" help?

hmmm.. it don`t really do much help to own deck, except it increase the smell of an old deck  anyway, used cards can be use in many ways I believe many tricks involving tearing the card, folding the card. Who knows you might brainstorm a new trick with some used card, because when handling used card you are more comfortable with it compare to a brand new deck or deck which cost much more.

What I do? Put them in a freezer overnight. In the morning, they are as
hard as a tank. Glue them together and build a card tower.

nottieboy - March 10, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
^_^ are they very wet when in the process of glue-ing the cards together?

Achmed - March 11, 2008 10:40 AM (GMT)
Not really. Answering the post above ^

Can try making a card castle with scotch tape also.

nottieboy - March 13, 2008 02:59 PM (GMT)

Achmed - March 14, 2008 01:04 PM (GMT)
