what to you do if your deck is gimmicked and the spectator wants to inspect for example hover card.

One way is to follow the hover card with another effect that doesn't use a pack of cards. That way, you can quickly put it away and proceed on to another effect like coins, etc. If you patter well and there's hardly any dead time, it'll be difficult for them to ask the deck for inspection unless they're really rude.

After that, you can follow up with another card effect using a normal deck, pretending that it was the same previous deck used.

I don't own the hover card but if you have Ellusionist's teaching, I'm pretty sure they should cover all the bases, and how to clean up, etc.

Contrary to what many might think, I believe that if you are starting out in magic, you should start off with effects that can be examined (whether gimmicked or not) with little or no cleanup.

Several reasons:
-If you are just starting, you are likely to just perform one trick at a time to people you know. This really puts undue pressure on non-examinable effects.
-Managing the audience, or routining your act in a manner to handle problems of inspection, IS difficult and is best done once enough experience is gained by performing inspectable effects. On the other hand, performing inspectable effects allow you to choose the difficulty to suit you (eg. you can start with non-sleight-of-hand effects).

personally i wouldn't use a hover card for that kind of floating effect

there's an easy float gimmick that's simple to use and achieves the same effect and they can literally pick any card (free choice )

and best of all u can hand out the deck for examination.

i'll have to disagree with Gordon on the beginner's thing.

I started magic using a mirage deck and it worked a treat.

it allowed me to spread the cards " freely" and i was able to get away 90% of the time as i showed before the trick and after the trick that the deck was "normal"

 I also have a problem with one effect, that is kollosal killer( i think is spelt like that), what if people want to check ur wallet? what will you say?

GordonLi - June 29, 2007 10:08 AM (GMT)
If done properly, and presented in the right way, no attention is supposed to be brought to the wallet.

But again, I stand by my view that such effects are best done by professionals since they are less likely to get such requests for inspection (as opposed to if done on a social basis), AND because they are likely to be more experienced in presentation. Of course, if you are good at audience management, then even if you are a beginner, you can do such non-inspectable effects.

hey sashi.

What you might want to do is to practice using HC as a closer. Or figure out how you can apply it to you normal deck rather than having another separate effect. So after doing most of your routine, you can put your cards away, load the gimmick do a coin trick or something then return to the HC so it leaves little doubt.

Hi all,

There's been quite a few hover card effects on sale on the market, anyone could recommend which to go for?

and also floating card effects? which to choose? E store has 1 floating card w gimmick but quite expensive which don't know if any good, recommendation will be most appreciated,

Cheers.

^ personally i would go for the Easy float gimmick because u don't have to force a card and the spectator can check the deck afterwards

also it's easier to perform than hover card which requires a lot of work not to get the thing to flop around
