Hey guys,
The show is on Suria Channel so it's in Malay but there are english subtitles for the non malays.
Here's my short (ok after typing all that i realise it's not that al short.. :P ) review on it:
After watching the first episode, Imran I feel was the best man for this job. He is able to carry this scary image which is even scarier than the Blaine himself! In comparison to Cyril, Cyril is a charming magician who makes all the jap girls go ga-ga. Imran is lacking in that respect but in his own way, is able to convince all the 'makciks' and 'pakciks' (uncles and aunties) to think that maybe he is the real deal.. using black magic or something. Thus in conclusion I feel he's the best magician in Singapore at this time for the show. Congrats Imran!
As for the show itself, you have to applaud the production team and the producer, Mr Hamid Osman, for his hard work to produce a half hour per episode local magic tv series that is unique and different from all we've seen here in Singapore. I think I have to comapare this show to JC Sum's and Kyle's Maya, and ilusi (as a first impression) comes up tops. I'm not comparing these great magicians here, I'm comparing the production as a whole.
The show structure it seems, first starts with some simple street magic stuff, then a big trick with a celebrity, then brings in the Imran life story section, some more simple street magic and learn a magic trick, and finally a huge impressive trick for the finale. It is thoroughly entertaining.
I understand that the show will bring Imran to Indonesia where he will be doing some huge illusions. The trailer for next week's episode showed him in a wooden box/coffin lifted up by a crane and dropped from a height. My guess is that he'll not be in the rubble and will appear somewhere else.. duh..
All in all I'm really impressed that finally a local tv show has taken a gamble to put faith in making one man a celebrity magician in Singapore and this time, has actually put a lot of hard work to produce something we magicians can be proud of.
All the best to Imran and show. I'll be definitely taping it next week! (got training la...)
Cheers,
Syafiq

yea , the ending was super killer , extremely impressed with it. i thought the production value was very local like though , not that great but u know imran definitely would not have been given a million bucks to do the show so it 's good for what it is

This is great, looks fantastic, but special effects near ending is bit like Criss Angel opening though. David Blaine has Paul Harris and Criss Angel has Banachek, Derren Brown has Luke Jermay etc, anyone knows if they have anyone that is famous throughout the region as adviser too?
but from the clips this really looks like an upcoming exciting show , can't wait for Monday to come..

Manage to catch it, Imran did quite well in his debut. There are more to look forward to. Don't forget to catch him next Monday. There will be more illusions coming out in the future episode. The show was well showcased. How good if it will be in english.
Imran, maybe can translate all to English version and produce DVDs to sell in the market. :P

hey imran,
I have a bit of a thought to share. You would agree that it does concern religious sensitivities but I believe you would be the best person to answer. For as long as I remember, whenever I have performed any strong effect for my muslim friends, they might have been somewhat convinced that it was of a supernatural kind, as some of the guys said your effects also give the impression, but my friends perceptions have always been negative, like as if i'm some devil worshipper or such even though my patter is pretty much neutral or even if i have no patter at all. The response from non-muslims however has been from "wow, good trick" to a positive sense of wonder. I was curious if there is any particular reason for this because I also now realize that many of the ghost sotires I read by malay/muslim authors typically referred to the entity as "devil incarnate" as opposed to a lost soul which we might normally read about in other stories. I am curious whter there might be certain sensitivities to take note of when performing for a muslim spectator and maybe your view of this kind of a mentality, its reasons and possible solutions.

For malay or muslim the exposure of magic is limited by seeing the performance of foreign talents for example David Copperfield. Some Muslim believe that deceiving and magic is only can be perform by devil worshipper or the devil themselves, from which they study the quran regarding how our Prophet Musa (Moses) being challenge by the pharoah magician in a duel of faith. However, these negative thought has been changed drastically after our community being exposed to the world of magic, thanks to TV show and internet. However, for some older generation they still believe that sorcery and magic is against the religion and can change one faith on to the power of god as human being can perform miracles. Thats why for muslim masses it is better to perform magic that is less provocative such as you are invincible, you are superior or any of the kind. Be entertaining by engaging them in magic such as do as I do tricks. Anyway Imran has explained in Berita Harian last Sunday (5/7) that magic is all about science and mathematics and nothing to do with sorcerism. I hope the malay/mslim community will understand. I actually envy Imran and proud of him for his talent and his comitment in magic!
