Actually, it is the usual stuff we have been doing like Biddle trick which is really easy and focus much on presentation, mind reading effect like F****** a card then focus much on the presentation. ACR and triumph and many more to go. I think all these trick fit the conditions you have listed down.
noob_magicx - July 18, 2007 08:14 AM (GMT)
There's a couple on my list but i doubt i have 10 that much..
1) ACR
2) Biddle
3) Mind reading using card F***ing
4) prediction with either paper or handphone
5) 2CM
6) chance theory (from E)
7) card to pocket routine
8) Mental F**** (adapted from derren brown)
Basically i feel these are it. But of course there are so many routines and effects around so i'd really like to see what you guys have. Hopefully can develop some new ideas from there ;)

Bizarre Twist by Paul Harris.
very visual, uses very basic sleights, easy to carry (only 3 cards), minimal patter, no gimmicks, ends clean and immediate re-set (just don't do to the same people).
not exactly angly but need some cover up.

1) Quick trick - Select a card, show wrong card, color-change to correct card....
...leading into an
2) ACR.
(Suppose the specs have no time for the ACR, at least you have shown something visual!)
3) I also like a version of card-to-pocket that uses a DF card. You can show 51 indifferent cards before revealing the card in the pocket.
No palming, no funny moves, no misdirection needed.
Unfortunately, the card CANNOT be signed, but well......it is "not too hard" and resets instantly. Lol.

Hmm, but sometimes even if the so called "Best card tricks" came out to be not much impact if you don't have good presentation skills. But if you are good at presentation, even a DL can kill. For me, I would do:
1.starting from the basic effects and sleights that a beginner magician would do. e.g. DLs and so on.
2.ambitious card routine is a must too. I'm sure even professional magicians use this. But I'm also sure they can give the audience a better "wow" due to their presentation.
3.If you want self working, just F**C* a card then if you have good presentation.
4.the Biddle Trick is good too.
5.I would also recommend some stacks if you want "easy" effects. The Osterlind Breakthrough System is a good one/ you can pick up Kevin Parker's Psynpe. Its the same effect but it's a totally different stack. Kevin Parker's Psynpe is good but The Osterlind Breakthrough System is the best.
6.Maybe Indecent by Wayne Houchin? Just place your deck of cards in a zip lock bag and when you want to perform, you will have everything that you need.
Just a few of them I thought of. Good luck.

Anything from the Drawing Room Deceptions and Forces Unseen.

I consider Dai Vernon's Twisting the Aces a vital lesson in card magic presentation. If you present it well, it will kill. If you don't it will really suck. This is one trick where presentation really makes a difference, and hence makes good training.
When presented well, it is visual, magical, impromptu and ends totally clean.

I will suggest some effects - as to the exact version, I guess its really up to you. I think this is the approach a magician should take anyway, think of the effect you want to achieve, and find out which methods and presentations are the best (or suit you).
To the best of my limited knowledge and memory, I have tried to give you some places to start for each effect. Hope this helps.
Wild Cards
-The best I've seen is Tommy Wonder's - he calls it 'Tamed Cards', I think.
A Mystery Card effect (selected and signed card is the 'mystery' card set aside even before the trick)
-I use the one from Jack Carpenter
Self Working effects (don't look down on these)
-Dai Vernon has some very good ones with very smart ideas
-I also like one of Juan Tamariz' mentalism effect with a deck of cards
-and others...
Out of this world
-Original Paul Curry
-There's one I use and love but I can't remember who it is by - this is frustrating! This is the one secret I cherish the most and have revealed this to noone, and the source to only a handful (when I still remembered the creator).
-Larry Jennings shared with us one (but I think it ought to be improved upon first)
Twisting the Aces
-Many versions, but I stick with Dai Vernon's original, even though some people (eg. Paul Gordon) have criticised it for 'purposeless' turning and flipping of cards, but I still find it the most streamlined, and that each motion is in fact, contrary to these claims otherwise, motivated.
Gambling Effects
-Audiences love to see magicians being able to control a deck and deal themselves any cards they wish. Some may argue that strictly speaking, this is not magic, but heck, some have magical elements, the rest are entertaining.
Card Changes (I know this is one of the seven fundamental effects of magic, but isn't really a trick in and of itself, but you can consider tricks which are centered around card changes - just don't get too carried away as such may become show-offish and be ostensibly one of trickery and deceit. But many magicians, Dai Vernon included, have said that card changes are one of the most magical things people can witness).
51 Cards to the Pocket - I love this!
Triumph
-Dai Vernon has more than 1 version of this, other people have also come up with many versions. Many magicians say that this effect is one of the best card effects in magic, and I concur.
Travellers
Collectors
Oil and Water
-I don't do this, don't have any recommendations, but I like the effect a lot.
Memorised Deck effects
-I don't do this either, but there seems to be alot of possibilities open to those who master this. Try to learn those stacks that enable you to do tricks with the same stack (eg. gambling deals and demonstrations).

Hello. My favourite card trick is ACR. That is a whole routine in itself, and there are many endings and ways to do it, which is why I recommend it.

Here are some effects you can refer to. All are fairly easy to do.
Travellers - David Stone's variation in his The Real Secrets of Magic
Collectors - Shoot Ogawa's variation in his Buster Vol. 1 or for a more flashy version, check out the Buck Twins' in their Trilogy set.
Oil and Water - Larry Jennings' in his Thoughts on Cards video or Oil and Water in Joshua Jay's Talk About Tricks dvds or JC Sum's variation. (its not released yet though)

LOL.
Anyone noticed the problem with card trick suggestions?
The list just never ends!
Haha!
rolandlim - July 20, 2007 03:56 AM (GMT)
^ yes that's true
but at the same time the amount of card tricks available are insanely staggering !
so having a list suggestion is great !!
Reuben_Wong - August 6, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
Here's my take :)
1. Stigmata (version 1)
2. Waving the Aces
3. Card Transpo / Here to There
4. Oil and Water
Actually there are just sooo many to list!
This came more as a random "first thought" suggestion...

Stigmata is great, but I think it is more like a revelation method.
Here's my list
1. Here then there
2. ACR
3. Out of this world, followed by lateral steal colour separation.
4. Triumph (Shoot Ogawa has a killer Triumph routine in Cultural Xchange)
5. Card to impossible location. (shoe, sealed deck, orange, egg)
6. Colour changes (Moving pips, In your face change and ego change)
7. Suit Separation after spectators shuffled the deck
8. Radar Deck or Mindpower deck
9. Laser Deal or Snap Deal (the snap deal is more like a utility move that has many different applications)
10. Spectator just name a card and the card appears face up in a face down deck that is in full view since the start of the performance. Plus the face up card is the ONLY card that has a face in the deck, the rest are all blanks. Cards can be examined on the spot.

sounds good. what's the name for this one?
Ace - August 7, 2007 02:34 AM (GMT)
I don't have a name for it yet. It is just a routine I came up with. I post a video of it in the magic clip section.
Check out "The invisible deck? double prediction". The 1st prediction is the audience name a card and it is the 1st card on the face of the deck. The second prediction is "the invisible deck?"
