Title: Impossible Teleportation
Description: From Street to Roof

MagicalPam - August 3, 2007 09:07 AM (GMT)
Dear all,
This is Pambudi from Beijing.
How are you all?
Life in China is good, but I miss all of you.
Anyway, I will come to Singapore to watch the latest mega-show of JC Sum.
I wonder if we could meet before the show and go together to the show.
We could meet at any McDonalds or KFC or Delifrance, discuss for 1-2 hours and go to the show after that.
Any interested? Please put your name here and please make a suggestion where and what time we should meet.
Thanks

PAM

More info about the show is here ....

TheSilentillusionist - August 18, 2007 12:17 PM (GMT)
Aww man. I just missed it because of work. Arghh, those who went got take video? Is it good?

sunny - August 19, 2007 10:19 AM (GMT)
Hi, anyone care to share how is the event..

M.A.D. - August 20, 2007 06:19 AM (GMT)
That day i drop my TT in the CC toilet and i screw up in my contest. i went home hide from my wife and sucking my own thumb till i forgotten this event. ;)

BangHao - August 20, 2007 11:41 AM (GMT)
I went to watch the event. It was simply spectacular, JC Sum stand on an elevated platform and they closed the doors, seconds later, HE WAS GONE.. I was trying to find an explaination for what have just happened but my mind was totally jammed up and could not find a logical answer to it.

Then around 5 seconds later, the big screen playing on the building switched to what was happening at the rooftop and he appeared on the 50 storeys of the OUB centre, i was wondering what the ****, how did he did that!?!. :o

Everyone is applauding at that time to witness the impossible teleportation, the feeling was so different watching "live" as i went back and watch the clip again on the news.

Overall it was something not to be missed, a once in a lifetime event, first in South-East Asia and to be part of the history B)

Navarrone - August 20, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
I was glad that I was there to witness this mega illusion. After, this is the first ever mega illusion is south east asia. Those who missed out this event really missed out a great once in a life time chance to watch our local magician teleporting from the ground all the way to the roof, 49 stories above ground. You have to see it to believe it!

I hope that there will be a video of this so that those who missed it can at least catch it on video.

I'm sure the other 5000 people who were watching all had the same though, that is, unbelievable!

jcsum - August 20, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
Hi,

Thanks to all who attended the mega illusion and for those who did not, you missed out on something special.

The official head count from SPH was more than 9000 people who witnessed the mega illusion. The original anticipated number was 5000. The size of the crowd and scale of the illusion made the atmosphere electric.

The illusion was done in real time, with no stooges and in front of 9000 pairs of eyes burning the stage. My team pulled it off perfectly (or as perfect as possible given the scale) I say 'my team' because there was no way I could have done it myself. The illusion crew was already 10 people and event support who were critical to the illusion were 20+ people.

Judging by the 9000 strong reaction and the publicity the mega illusion generated, it was a major success. The illusion was featured on News on 5 at 9.30pm that night and subsequently on Channel News Asia and The Straits Times. Through CNA, the story has gone international and was picked up by news agency worldwide. Pre-illusion publicity included press features in all our major newspapers. This is the first ever Singapore magic performance that has been featured in hard news extensively.

Look out for some media interviews and features related to the Mega Illusion in:

Bookends, The Sunday Times, 19 Aug 2007
"Illusionist wows crowd as ST marks 162nd anniversary", The Sunday Times, 19 Aug 2007
"Singapore Magician Teleports from Ground to Rooftop of 50-storey Building", Channel News Asia, 19 Aug 2007
News 5 Tonight, 18 Aug 2007
"He'll "teleport" up 50 storeys", The Straits Times, 17 Aug 2007
Lianhe Zaobao, 16 Aug 2007
"Asian's Want Asian Magicians" The Newpaper, 13 Aug 2007
"Singapore's David Copperfield" AsiaOne 10 Aug 2007

Here is some inside info that no one else would know:

1) We never rehearsed the mega illusion in its entirety. There was no way. Bad weather the previous night delayed set-up for more than 4 hours. Certain technical equipment could not be set-up. We did rehearse the illusion in parts in my studio.

2) We did technical run throughs for the mega illusion till 4am the previous night and I continued to do video editing for a 'documentary' that was to be shown on the actual day during performance. I got home at 6am.

3) At 10am, I got woken up by a call. Due to bad weather, our teleportation launch platform had rolled off the stage and crashed to the ground. The 150kg prop falling from 4ft high became a mangled wreck of metal and wood. Shawn, Will, Ning and myself managed to rebuild the prop by 3pm. That was the real mega illusion.

4) We only fully set-up on the roof at 6.45pm due to weather. Building safety regulations did not allow us to be on the roof. The mega illusion was scheduled to start at 7.30pm.

5) I gave the call to commence the mega illusion at 7.42pm when I felt the time was exactly right.

6) The method of the mega illusion is original to me and as far as I know has never been utilized before in the world. It is a first mega illusion in many ways.

In all, it was a fantastic experience. We will have a video up in several weeks. Our team is out this week for another mega illusion in its own right in Malaysia so have no time for anything else.

Oh, and if all goes right, I hope to stage Mega Illusion 2 with another organization in Dec 2007.

Look out for it!

Best,

J C

Hi all,
This is Pam,
I was there and be the witness of the whole event.
It was a great success, and congratulation to JC SUM and the team to make 9000 spectators speechless.
He just disapeared right in front of our eyes and several seconds later, he appear in roof-top level in front of some randomly selected audience.
That was one of the best illusion I have ever seeen (and I have seen many)
Congratulation again!!! Well done !!!
Thanks to set up an example on how things should be done.
It was worth my trip to Singapore from beijing :-)

PS.
As mentalist obviously I can read JC SUM's mind and know what method he used.... :-)
( I was trying to read Ning's mind, but I failed since she had a dirty mind:-)
Please do not PM me, I will not reveal to anybody.
Knowing how the method is done increase my admiration on how his brain works......

Pam

 Thanks Pambudi, I really do miss all your teasing. *grin* Anyways! It's fantastic that you guys made the trip down, many thanks for lending your generous support. It was no easy task squeezing in to be part of the audience! The entire venue was so jam packed!

I saw a couple of magicians at OUBC but I was rushing to get some crucial things ready so couldn't talk or say 'Hello' properly ...but here's a very BIG THANK YOU for being part of the almost 10,000 strong crowd to witness this first-ever Mega Illusion ^_^

Actually, I'm in the midst of blogging about it, so you can read it soon on my blog @ Ning's Diaries ...I'll have it ready before I go overseas for an illusion show we're booked for later this week.

:) Besides the press J C mentioned, we're also mentioned on a few others, like:

Asia One - Vodcast is currently also the only clip on the main page

This cute little girl just ran up to the camera and asked for his autograph. It was so endearing!!!

The Impossible Teleportation was seriously a blast! Because it was raining, we weren't even sure if we could do it on the open roof, and i was even wondering about the crowd size.. Thankfully, everything turned out great!!

I was on the roof, so i couldn't see the vanishing part.. But the reactions we got from the witnesses on the roof was fantastic. One lady (from the witness group) excitedly told me that she felt she was sooooo lucky to be able to witness it up close, live and also.. that she was soo amazed!!

My mum and dad also caught the illusion live and they were very amazed as well, especially my dad who thought it was just WOW!

I can't wait to catch the video to see the whole illusion in its entirety!

Ade. ^_^

Ning - August 28, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
Just fyi, the Impossible Teleportation was discussed on popular MediaCorp radio station, 98.7FM. The DJs were trying to dissect how J C managed this never been done before feat *grin* :) Check out the podcast here!

ROTFL!!!

Wuahahaha! That's so funny!!

It brings to mind what my mum was telling me a while back.. Her colleagues were discussing the mega illusion and one insisted that JC must have a twin brother (or someone's wearing a mask that makes him look like JC ), and the other insisted that there's a tunnel or something that JC could use to 'run' to the 50th floor (in 5 secs no less)!

Ade.
