Title: Audition 18th August (sat)
Description: Post any questions regarding Audition
Shade - August 7, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
The Auditions are just round the corner. Our registered constestants should have received an email and/or Mobile text Message from Jerome Fang, our coordinating Mod regarding your allotted time slot. Please let us know if you have not received your audition schedule.
If you have any questions that you would like for us to address, do post here. Special requests will be noted, but we do not guarantee that we can meet them. Please don't make demands that are ridiculous... :P
Whenever in doubt, do without. If you have any special or unique (read: pain in the @$$) requirements, it would be best if you made arrangements to have them available to you on that day yourself. This will ensure that you have EXACTLY what you need. After all, it is the responsibility of each performer to see to his own needs! :)
There will be a waiting area for contestants and you may or may not want to warm up on other contestants there. It's entirely up to you of course!

Hi , shade
I 'm pretty sure a small table will be available at audition area ?
i don't plan to do table work but need a table to place an item or 2 on it
regards
Roland

Yes - a table and professional sized close up pad will be provided. The judges will be seated about 2 metres away from you. If you need anything else, you will have to inform us in advance or provide it yourself. It's actually better if you bring it yourself so you'll know you got exactly what you need, rather than have us provide something that might be - ah, how shall I put it - "off by one"?
In fact, you're welcome to bring your own table if you're worried that our table might not meet your stringent specifications and standards.

Just want to make sure, will points be deducted if I exceed the 3minutes timing for auditions?
Aloy - August 7, 2007 08:33 AM (GMT)
Although there is no Routining component in the audition judging criteria, you may be penalised if you exceed the timing significantly.
sheeke - August 7, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
Just to ask, can I request to go to like 1 meter away from the judges?
Cause im doing rather "close" up magic.
Aloy - August 7, 2007 04:50 PM (GMT)
Let me clarify what Shade said earlier.
The Audition judges will be positioned at a maximum of 2 - 3 metres away from the performer. This represents about the "front row" view of a parlour setting.
So you cannot go across the room to the far end to perform an effect that cannot withstand the scrutiny of a parlour setting. You must be at least 2 - 3 metres away or closer.
However, you are free to engage the judges as closely as you want/need. Provided it doesn't prevents the judge from scoring and/or taking notes.
If your effect requires a high amount of interaction, we will provide a volunteer for you on that day.
Incarneto - August 13, 2007 06:11 PM (GMT)
Question.. Where will the judges be seated? Directly in front? Or angled to the side?
Aloy - August 13, 2007 06:20 PM (GMT)
If you are not using a volunteer, then directly in front.
If you are using a volunteer, then the volunteer will be placed slightly to the side so as not to block the judges' view. Unless the effect requires the volunteer(s) to stand behind you/put their hands on you/hold something over your head/etc etc then they will be positioned as required.
Of course, you are free to position yourself accordingly to cover your angles.

Hi, can I check will the cameras be shooting at all angles? It is because there might be effects which are angles sensitive.
Thanks :)

Shade - August 14, 2007 08:46 AM (GMT)
For Auditions, there will be a basic DV camera shooting only from the front. This is for reference use by judges only.
But for the Finals, there will be a projection quality camera trained on you. It will be operated by an experienced camera man (who himself is a magician). Though he will try his best to do head-on shots which will avoid any angle sensitive effects, you can still flash due to poor handling as he might zoom in for very close shots. It is ultimately up to you how daring and how much risk you wish to take.

Thanks =) One more question, would it be a long table? or a square table?
Shade - August 16, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)
We're not too sure on this Paul, we're relying on the CC to provide the tables. My best guess would be a long table. You are free to position it as you see fit. Alternatively, you can bring your own table if you are particularly particular.

when we reach the place , where do we go though ( which room / level etc ? ) ?
i've gone thru the email and i can't find any details ?
btw can i use the judges as the volunteers ?
or do i strictly have to use volunteers to let the judges judge from afar ?
jeromefang - August 17, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
Hi Roland,
When you reach Ulu panda CC, there will be Mods present to direct. In addition, there will be sign boards directing you to the registration counter.
As for using the volunteers, you can use either the judges or the mods that will be present.
Cheers
