The news you've all been waiting for...

Singapore Magic Circle’s 1st Magic Competition will be held on Fri, 7 Jan 2005 at a cosy venue called Munchie Monkey Cafe. Contestants performing in the magic competition will showcase their skills before a panel of judges as well as an energetic voting audience (YOU!).

It will be a magical night full of surprises and fun with attractive prizes and lucky draws for all!

Entry tickets can be purchased at the door at just $5, inclusive of a $2 food voucher, and with the first 40 guests receiving a mystery gift worth $5 free (yes, believe it!!!) while stocks last. Feel free to bring along friends, family and other halves* ^_^

... Just make sure you don't miss SMC's event of the year!

*Group Discount - SMC members may bring in a min. of 5 friends/family members (not applicable to other SMC registered members - group must also enter together) and get 1 free entry for themselves, i.e. Buy 6 tickets, pay for only 5.

Are laymen going to be part of the audience or is this gonna be a magicians-performing-for-magicians kind of thing? Honestly though, laymen in the audience would be pretty freaking weird.

It's a 50-50 thing. The panel of judges will comment on the individual performances and the audience also has voting rights. So, if you're a performer, try to encourage your friends to come too...

Lay people would definitely enjoy the show since there's different acts by various magicians and hey, we're not asking for all the contestants to showcase some complex magician-fooling routines! Come on! You don't have to be a David Copperfield for this one ok ;)

This is NOT a harsh competition (no Simon Cowe types in the judging panel, don't worry) :) ...the purpose is for everyone to enjoy this BIG event to kickstart the New Year, and for performing magis around us (esp those who've ever considered doing shows for $$$) more experience and some credentials too... er, besides standing a chance to win the groovy prizes... LOL :lol:

Please remember - we're not getting any monetary gains from you people (if like duh, you haven't figured all that out already)... yep, this is just simply, for you ^_^

Babe, nothing as scary as regular performance gitters... ;) You worry too much!

Also, the stage isn't a big grand one (thus the reason why we couldn't incorp stage acts) ...it's a decent platform for parlour/ closeup. It's a cosy place, much nicer than the usual Youth Park Cafe... so hey, show the rest what you're made of! LOL

First such event in Singapore, yeah? Big pioneering effort! Nothing even remotely similar in the past, huh.

And yeah, the cafe's nice and comfy. Nice plush sofas with cushions by the side for those interested.

Thing is we need to recover some of the cost of the event so that our pockets will not be too badly burnt. Rest assured that all money collected will only go into future SMC events, so nobody is making a profit here :)

Break your leg men! Join the competition and know for yourself the potential to be a real Pro. Just sweet tip always do the most confidence routine that u ever done and should be short & sassy. Think of a good impact and finale and most important HAVE FUN. May the Force be with U. B)

Alright Ning... I'll think over it seriously and come up with a decent routine. By Sunday latest, I should be ready with my decision... *gotta make up my mind... * ;)

Hey Ning, is there any chance I can drive down to NUS and see the stage first? I've already decided on the effect that I wanna perform if I do join, but I'll have to see if the stage can conceal what I want to perform.

Also, any chance of putting on music for the performance?

Don't wanna do close-ups. I'll fail miserably with so many eyes on my hands... lol.

You can go take a look at the stage at your own timing if you want :) It's a open to public cafe in NUS.
The "stage" is actually just pretty much a raised platform but we will also set up a table OFF the stage and the performer can choose which one they want to use.

For this competition we are doing close-up/parlour routines. The nearest audience will be too near for any stage effects if that's what you mean. Really don't count on the stage for your routine. And music is possible. Read my reply to Kevin in the other thread about the competition :)

anyone taking a vid of the performance? the magic starts ends wat time? anyone knows the latest bus from spore back to melaka? i realy wanna join u guys and watch ya magic performances. i dunno la... maybe i take leave on the fri and go join u all.. but at night ah... how ah? sure end v late one. unless one of u can let me stay over ya place... i dont mind sleeping on the floor lol... i just wanna jam with u guys la... :)

You can take 1/2 day actually, or if you drive, i think it's abt 2 - 3 hr journey only?
For the buses i think quite a lot of buses leaves singapore at night to beat the custom traffic jams, so you shouldn't have a problem catching a late bus home.
But you should confirm that thou :)

i think it will be better if i can stay at sumones place la. i really wanna make my trip worth while lol.... fri nite will be magic nite and sat will be flourish jamming session? lol... i also dunno if i can take leave or not etc. abt driving, i dunno spore at all man. ill be lost if i drive.

but do let me know lor if someone is kind enough to let me stay over lol. Man, i know i never meet any of you b4 and thus it might sound abit weird/strange that me wanting to stay over ya hse. lol... but well... just a thought... is any one free that weekend to take me around spore, card jamming and all that weekend?

Hey Ning... I have decided to just attend this compeition, and perhaps, join the second compeition if there is one - to see how is everything done... ;)

No problem girl! Remember to bring some of your girl frens with ya... I'll be bringing some of mine along. One's an air stewardess, the other's a nurse... hopefully they can fit their schedules and attend our event.

The two of them girls really like to see magic- I'm sure they'd be mighty impressed to see you flourish too! :lol:

Haha... I'll be bringing my ex-bio teacher along, he works at NUS and a magician too. (after being fooled by me all the time, he has taken a course somewhere...) And perhaps, one or two of my classmates who are also magicians... WoW, air stewardess and nurse. Hope my hands won't tremble when doing those flourishes...
