You've gotta ask more specific questions mate B)
What aspect of Children magic? Specific problems? We might be able to better answer your questions then :)

You see, I've been dabbling with magic around a year but I'd like to go really in-depth with kid's magic.
So I'd basically like to know how to get started.
Stuff I could pick up first etc etc.
Cheers.

Type of Kids magic u can perform:
Balloon Sculpture, Sponge Ball, Torn & Restore Newpaper, Cut & Restore Rope, Egg-Bag, Break-wand or Fan, Mouth Coil, Flower Production thru Tube, Rabbit In Pan Production, Simple Escape Tricks, [exposure deleted] Tricks, Color Changing Silk, 20th Century Silk Production, Milk Pitcher Tric and For Finale Production of your Banner for your advert. These tricks can last u for a 40 to 2 hr show. :D

The important thing is still your personality.
Working with kids, need a lot of experience and patient.
I have many magic stuff for kids magic, but only selected some for my performance. Not all props are suitable.

i find children prefer the old fashioned prop and colourful magic over the more "modern" kind of (sometimes sleight of hand) magic.
just go for the tried and tested ones...
zinally has listed most of what i have in mind, but i really like the mutilated parasol.
the problem with torn and restored is that its rather meaningless to me (tearing newspaper, just to restore it. after which, the restored newspaper is crumpled up and thrown away?). much like T&R card, only that T&R can be quite personal and can be handed out as souveniers.

Age related factor! 100 % Agree. Different years meant different way of thinking, conceptual, span of attention, etc. So should learn a little child developmental and off corzz by experience.
I do love kids magic also....and still far away behind u in magical journey.
I use magic w/ my toddlers in preschool and sunday school.
Some people said personality, patient, and many other names. My words is just preparing ur heart and mind. When ur ready dealing w/ kids, GRAB their heart then their attention will follow. Music, drama, story, sing w/ them, colourful stuffs and dress might help you.
Give ur whole heart and mind on dealing w/ kids. what you do in front of them or maybe "behind of them" will be potentially imitated.
Props and routine....this thread might help u more:

i find that tricks with Money or coin will be well taken by all ages.
such as coin from heaven or from everyway. B)

Get Royal Magic's DVd on balloon sculpting... good stuff
Kids like visual stuff, throw in a bit of comedy. Don't act cool ;) Be funny- the right dose fo humor will make them love you.
It's not so much the tricks, but also the presentation... do things that are very colorful. For instance, magic coloring book, streamers, stuff with confetti, silks with patterns, etc.
Duane Laflin might be the guy you wanna check out if you're interested in heading to that direction.
Good luck!

the ONE way to do it: have a funny (almost silly) smile on your face all the time. just be funny (pretend ur a kid), i believe then they'll LOVE u!

ah min, dun wear long sleeves if possible, cuz sum kids will act smart and sae tht the tricks u do are all in ur sleeves, even if it's impossible or even if u are using TT, and they will be nt seeing u performing bt trying to figure out hw u do the trick. So take note of this. ( best is dun wear anything below ur elbow)
GordonLi - April 18, 2005 10:38 AM (GMT)
yea, when performing for kids, dress as minimally as possible, to the bare essentials.. then again, its not only kids who may suspect it as such, therefore, always wear as little as possible.
btw, i dun like entertaining kids, its not my style. but i do some balloon sculpting though (in the event i HAVE to entertain them), but balloons also for adults.

Balloons are great for all ages I believe.. Not too difficult to pick up too..
As for long sleeves.. I don't find it much of a problem? Would be advisable to probably roll up your sleeves just before a TT effect.. Eliminates the thinking that things go up your sleeves when doing disappearances.. =)
