Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd share some thoughts on Triple Actz and offer a reason for magicians to attend the show. This might be a noteworthy reason for you to watch the show besides the entertainment value derived from it. And it will be a fun show!

Anyone who has had a serious conversation with me about magic or who attended the Micro Magic Convention at the beginning of the year or read my stage lecture notes (Beyond the Stage), will know that I’m a strong proponent for structure, storytelling and routining in a magic show (or any show for that matter).

This show will (hopefully :) ) demonstrate those thoughts, ideas and techniques into practice for three different performers with different show content and stage personalities. It will be a showcase on how a show (not act) is produced for the real world, reflecting individual performer's style and distinct personality.

Save for two pieces designed specifically for the theatre show, the rest of the acts come from the actual professional repertoire from individuals paying shows that are performed for real audiences and booked by real people. You will get to see 3 different shows designed not for magicians but for layman and not for magic competition.

I’m playing a part to put the production together but all their individual shows are fruits of the performers labour and have been works in progress for the past 2 – 3 years.

Shawn Chua is a working magician who, like many of our local young pros, does it all. Performing for all types of audiences, venues, nature of events for years has honed his magic craft and performing skills. He is ‘The Complete Magician’ and also the IBM Ring 115 2006 Parlour Champion.

What I feel makes him different from his peers is that his approach is more stand-up feel in nature, interactive and motivated. So, there will be no candles, canes or silks from this guy. It is a great show for a sophisticated audience. Some professional acts you will see from Shawn are: A segment of the Competition Award-wining Act, Jumbo Card Routine, The Vanishing ‘Tiger’ and the Lottery Prediction.

You all know Ning. But, I’ll bet this is the first time, for most of you, to ever see a professional female magician performing a complete show and not just a 10min act. She has made an amazing transition from amateur magic enthusiast to full fledged professional. She performs not only as part of my illusion show but also performs her one-girl show. In fact, tonight, she was a hit as the main stage entertainer for Canon’s 2008 Digital Camera Product Launch - no simple feat.

It makes us smile when magicians suggest that Ning does flowers, silks or streamers because she is a female. :wacko: Well, being anti-cliché practitioners, we would never have ‘Magic Babe’ do those effects. Ning represents the modern, strong and vivacious women of the current times and all her material reflects this and at the same time highlighting her femininity and elegant poise. Some highlights of her acts include; UV Rope Act, Straight Jacket ‘Striptease’, Linking Coat Hangers and a cool New Illusion.

‘Iron’ Will is the most ‘alternative’ performer with the most seldom seen content. Many magicians have escape routines in their show, but as far as I know, there is no pure escape artist in this part of the world with a complete escape show. If you have always wondered how an escape show could be entertaining, varied and hold an audience for 30minutes, this is your chance.

Escapes that Will will be performing include; Mail Bag Escape, Claustrophobia Box, 50 ft Rope Tie, Lock Picking and even some bizarre stunts that include a combination of fire eating and glass walking.

Hi Everyone,

By now, those who have paid me would have received a SMS on the collection of the tickets for tomorrow's TripleActz show. In any case, here the details of collection.

Matt Lee, a fellow SMC member will collect all the tickets for all of you. Including Matt, the ticket tally in total is 14. Hence, when you reach Alliance Francaise, pls proceed to look for Matt to collect your tickets. I have SMSed you all Matt Lee's number so you can call him if you can't find him.

The show starts at 7.30pm and as you need to collect your tickets before hand, pls reach the theatre at 7pm so that you can collect your tickets.

Alright, here a review for those that never went!!! I will say, its quite a miss for those that didn't go for this round, because you will miss the FUNNY shawn, the OH-MY-GOD Ning, and the STUNNING Iron Will.

Shawn's first act, the opener acts, was maybe nervous, but he got all tunned up not long and the best act will be the number prediction, even my friends are stunned.

Second comes Ning, the Magic Babe. The opener for her acts, are cool!!!! I totally enjoyed the effects of it, and sad to say, my contact lense drop half way through her act and I have to miss them inorder to get it back to my eyes. Neverthless, I was still caught by her to go up stage with her to help her with the Jacket. Seriously, its the first time i doing it!! Don't rush me.. Ho ho ho..

Oh before Iron Will's act, is a commercial break by Shawn, and I can tell you, thats the most entertaining act ever, because everyone was expecting something from Shawn, but he did almost nothing but stand on the stage "singing".. The most interesting part will be when he went to drink water, all of us is "-.- that you didn't even sing and you need water. :lol:

Last act is by Iron Will, and he ROCKS!! Seriously respect him when he did all the escape and the human blockhead. I was not expecting much from him but he proved me wrong.

I guess there will be a Video coming out soon. And so those that didn't catch it in time, you will be able to see them soon!!!

All those who missed the theatre show yesterday, you REALLY missed out on a great show. :P

To be honest i had not seen Will's full show all throughout before and i really liked it. Elmo was cute!!! He also performed the human blockhead which was being discussed in here a couple of weeks ago. Weirdly enough (for me), it was 'grossly' entertaining (Pun intended). :lol:

Shawn was splendid too. I think a lot of people laughed till they cracked their sides. I know I did, though i did not catch the full part of it. :)

Ning was really really splendid as Magic Babe Ning. :) It was indeed refreshing to see a gal in the show. Girl power!! *grin* For the straitjacket routine, Larry's fumbling with the straitjacket was very funny. LOL!!

My greatest congratulations to all the performers for a great show well done! :lol:

From the producer's point of view,the show was a great success, in terms of attendance (ticket sales) and show quality.

All 3 performers did great jobs and made the show a highly entertaining one.

Shawn matched up to expectation of his combination of comedy and magic with lots of new material. The kids loved him and I believe he is the only one who was asked for autographs after the show.

Ning surprised many with her range, depth of performance and confidence. Most either knew her as a serious magic enthusiast or part of my illusion show. Her 'One Gal Show' clearly showed that she could hold her own with an at with the highest production value.

Will was tremendous in his demonstrations and ability to perform entertaining escapes. His showmanship, distinct style and ability to engage the audience showed why he was the choice to close the show.

it's was great!

this is the first time a attend to a magic show and i never ever know will invite on stage by the magician, Shawn is who invite me on stage to have the performent with him. just simplely ask me fold the giant card into quarter and tear into 4pcs, and he resttore back. hahaha, it's shock when he took out the restore card from a small box. the number predict also impressing, esspecially the 4digit he predict as same as last 4digit from a audience's 50 dollar note!

Ning performance was excellence, i like here opening. it's cool!
the 'linking coat hanger', 'storm snow', and the appear one box of money. wow, it's shocking me, i just thing that how wonderful if i also can appear one box of money just a fingger snap.( haha..stop dreaming lah. :lol: :lol: :lol: )

the last one is the Iron Will. i am jsut have one question with him, is he boneless? if not how he squeeze into the case?ha ha .

i really really enjoy the show although i went alone.
i was just happy to said that, i did not making the wrong decision.

Our show schedule is hectic... we just touched down from an overseas performance the night before our theater show! My butt was numb after the 6 hour flight and et we still had to head back to the studio to do some packing for a stage show at Sentosa we were booked for, prior to Triple Actz at Alliance Francaise in the night. How crazy is that?!

See lah, with a slave driver for a boss, how can I have a proper social life? :( I think I need to sign up for speed dating already.

Anyways! I was inspired by the LOTR over 2 years ago after watching the DVDs millions of times & my muse whispered ideas for the new presentation/ storyline for the 'classic' sword basket illusion in my ear ;) I'm proud of it because I really HATE the usual way the sword basket is presented because it's usually so tacky and it doesn't make sense :P Mine has a different presentation and we painstakingly dressed everything up - even the basket/ table had vines!

The rest of the stuff after that come from my one gal stage show proper... Yes, I team up with J C for illusion shows but I hold my own as well *grin* Like how Magic Boutique is The Little Magic Shop all grown up, Magic Babe is Miss Ning "grown up" too :) I take my craft very seriously.

Congratulations on a great production.

There are some really creative ideas I saw that day. Ning's dramatic version of indian swords basket was really good to see materialized. I happen to know she has had this idea for the longest time.
(Big) Shawn using (Small) Shawn's cap for the collection of billets is a very clever touch. And i thought the Mighty Mouse routine is hilarious.
Will's fantastic with his rapport with the crowd. That's just talent you cannot learn.
