If you are setting up a competition all must be entitle to join wat.. If you say this and that can't be in then this is not call a competition liao ;)

If you wanna have a competition, you need judges who know the ish. And none of us, neither you, me, Huron, CLJ, Cai, sly... blahblahblah... have that standard. We're all mere amatuers when it comes down to the real deal.

If you want some competition, the HL battle forum will suffice.

Doish! Burr! Loofer. Why not have a live flourish competition jus like the magic one thats gonna happen at MUNCHIE MONKIES? And lay men will do the judging by voting for the most entertaining flourish performance. Competition by vids can be done at HL man. I feel theres more kick to a live flourish performance,hehehhehe. UNCUT SHIT!! TEST UR REAL SKILL!

Hehe, now THAT would be cool. Huron would prolly win, cause he's one of the only guys who actually PATTERS to his flourishes... I still remember the eel cuts vid, bro! :D

Hmmm....i am actually very receptive to that idea, it sounds cool :)

BUT we dun have money for a nice prize for that -_-
I've started an SMC fund for use for functions and events of SMC and we have used up every last drop of that for the Magic Competition with some deficeit.

However I would really like to know how many would be keen to actually take part in the Flourish Competition if we have it? And I'll see if I can go beg/steal/borrow some kickbacks for it.

nah. seperate better. this is kinda last minute to be held on 7th Jan. and also, some of the magis are really good flourishers as well. so its best to concentrate on one thing. uhhuh

Hahaha so many judges?? I dun think we're good enough to judge this stuff. I think laymen will be the best choice for playing the judging role here.

A flourish comp will be a very good idea as it may be the 1st of its kind in this WORLD! Or should i say, first few. Which other country or place held a flourishing comp b4?? Besides maybe those small suburban 20 feet deep underground villages of Germany and Austria?

I realised that Flourishers nowadays are so caught up with staying at home to perform for themselves that they actually forget bout the true meaning of performing for the AUDIENCE! How many flourishers actually entertain ppl REAL LIFE instead of entertaining fellow flourishers/magicians over the net through videos?

So holding a flourishing comp would allow flourishers HERE in S'pore to get out of the comfort of their own homes and whooop their audience straight in the face REAL LIFE with their flourishes. The feeling is also damn different performing live infront of living ppl instead of ur lifeless vid cam.

when will this be held? i only going to be in spore on the 7th - 8th... leaving prob evening? make it after/during the event? i am still a beginner at flourish man. im just so excited to get some help on some moves from u guys. we should jam together and make a vid together.. with me in it :P.. that will be so cool... :P

I also don't think its good to have a flourish competiton on the same date as the magic competition. Well, most people will be busy practicing/thinking their magic routines for the competition. Thus, they won't have time to practice their flourish.

I believe there are some good flourisher out there who is going to take part in the coming magic competition. I think its not going to be fair to them if they take part in both the competition. And it surely won't be their best performance... Do you want to see a solid or a performance that's not up to standard?

And... I don't think its very nice to have a last minute thing suddenly popup like that...

Instead of having a flourish competition, we can have people to just perform some flourish for the event. It can be an opening of the event...

Why exclude Kevin and Huron out? I think they should be in... Its will surely be an eye opening flourish competition. The judge of the competition will have a headache for sure... Isn't it going to be more fun this way...

Deciding on who's going to be the judge? (Magic or Flourish)

As this is our very first competition, why not let the audience be the judge? Erm... they can cast the vote to the best magician that night. Write on a piece of paper and put it into a box. Organiser will then calculate it at the end of the competition.

Or you can include these votes as a small percentage of points earned by the magician's performance...

In this way, you'll have points given not only from the judges eyes but from many different people. The magicians will then have to try their very best to put up a good show not only to please the judges but the audience too..


Winner and runner-up for this competition will be banned for taking part the next SMC competition. Let them be the judge for the next SMC competition.

This also a gives other magicians the chance to win the next competition...

And the winner of the next competition will proceed to be the next judge. While the current judge takes part in the 3rd competition...

we all know that flourish is most of the time only entertaining in the eyes of magicians/flourishers. laymen dont really find it amusing. they just will say... hmm ook.. this guys can handle his cards well... that all. furthermore, they get bored after like 5 mins of non stop flourish. lol

im not sure if laymen going to enjoy this. but magicians like me... i LOVE IT! thats coz its not easy to perform flourish! its challenging!

but having the audience to judge may be a good idea. but again... it may be not bcoz of the skill... popularity might overule the skillz. not sure.?

yala... have the flourish comp next time la... we just perform for flourish for fun la... no need to challenge..... it will be so cool all of us flourishiung as we stand in groups! hehe.. watch out, my cards will sure out to drop and fly all over .. lol.. thats how good i am! :P

Yeah!!! I was talking about flourish in my post and at the same time, giving a general view on deciding a judge for both magic and flourish...

Why not invite huron to the flourish competition if there is going to be one... Seeing him doing flourish in competition will be very different...

And I seriously think a magic and flourish competition should be a seperate event.

it shld b a seperate event if there is 1 cause if not ppl who dun appreciate flourishes wound not understand wad the ppl doing the flourishes are doing :P

Hehe... that's what our new short film, "Virtuoso", is about... an introduction of flourishes to laymen ;)

Anyways, I think the flourish competition is kinda burr... no prizes, no glory in defeating the other people who aren't THAT good... I mean, come on... who here KNOWS they got skillz? Raise your hands (Huron, Cai, Sly... my hands are down for now, so you better keep them down too! ;) )

I say a simple jamming session during the laggy parts of the competiton will suffice. A Competition would have no purpose, really... other than a sideshow event that no one would want to remember.

Flourishes not amusing to lay ppl? Haha guess ur talking about the ppl who doesnt know how to present flourishes well. Cant say much here because this is a place for magicians and from what i know, magicians only use flourishes to spice up their magic act.

I guess we'll let Morphine decide since hes the man here and we pure flourishers have no say bout this since this is a magic forum and flourishes will always remain as a sub-category of magic here.
