Title: The Royal Road - Registrations Closed!
Description: A Book Focused 'study course'

Shade - October 7, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

Everyone into magic would have heard of this book. The Royal Road to Card Magic by Jean Hugard and Frederick Braue has been around for so many years. How many of us actually own a copy but never read it? (I know more than a GREAT handful)

Well, there is hope! SMC is conducting a very special string of sessions that will focus on dissecting the workings of the Royal Road to Card Magic!

This will be a very special group of sessions conducted that will take your card handling to another level altogether! We will be pouring through the book from chapter to chapter; we will run through every effect and sleight; we will discuss existing effects in the book and try to give it the 'SMC' touch. ;P

For those of you who don't know, RRTCM has got so many gems of wisdom in it - many of which have been 'repackaged' as new ideas by some less than scrupulous individuals and selling them off at more than the price of the book.

I recently showed a really great location effect from RRTCM to a couple of people and they were seriously surprised when they learnt that it came from RRTCM! And Adrian also fried Gordon earlier on with another effect from RRTCM! These sessions are designed to recapture all those lost gems.

Due to the special nature of this sessions, there will be certain restrictions imposed. Only 10 places available.

To qualify for entry to these sessions, you must meet the following criteria strictly.

1) You must be willing to commit to the sessions fully -
This is a long term commitment; you will be required to attend at least 6 to 10 sessions (depending on the breakdown of the chapters and pace) and are expected to contribute in the sessions - this will ensure you get the most out of the sessions.

2) You must be a forum Contributor -
Only forum members who have been contributing to the forum are allowed to participate in these sessions. This is subject to the screening of the mods facilitating, but the general guidelines would be:
- at least attended 2 gatherings RECENTLY
- at least helped out at ONE SMC Event/Charity RECENTLY
- in good standing with the Forum

3) RRTCM - YOU MUST OWN A COPY OF THE BOOK.
As we are planning to do it like a 'classroom' (for lack of a better word), you are expected to own your own copy of this book. To avoid any debate about what is ok to teach and what is NOT ok, we figured that if EVERYONE who attended owns a hardcopy of the book, then it's open season on all the effects therein. Treat the book like your own 'textbook' of sorts - take notes down and jot ideas in there - you'll find that these sessions will be like NO OTHER EVER. You can get a copy of RRTCM from either Borders or Kino at about 20 dollars. You can also get a copy from Magic Boutique.

REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

As long as you have the book with you when you attend each session. :)

Kuang89 (Alvin) <-- Sorry to disappoint you Kuang, but I don't think you've been active long enough for this one... :P Maybe the next time we have the session you'd have enough 'credits' with SMC to attend... :) But I really appreciate your interest and support man. See you at the Chalet!

We'll be closing registrations at 5... This'll keep the group very small and highly productive. Please ensure you have your RRTCM Book with you when you come for the first session!

Shade - November 9, 2007 01:16 AM (GMT)
Matt, you got your copy yet? I'll hold a place for you if you're interested.

kuang89 - November 10, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
Er...I think it's abit funny, because your active is only in forums!!! Foruming all the time will not help you improve. I can be those who post a reply in every single thread I visit and I'm sure my replies will not be repeated or supporting other's reply to ADD TO MY POST COUNT SO THAT I CAN BE CONSIDERED ACTIVE.

Jlowhy - November 10, 2007 04:20 AM (GMT)
Hey Kuang, you might want to re-read the first post of the thread carefully.

The following is one of the requirements.

One last place.

Anyone wants it? :) Registrations will close on 16th Nov.

Session 1 at the Chalet will be mostly an introduction and setting up of the expectations. We'll play by ear how much to cover. But it should be a very fruitful one though. :)
