Title: All The Card And Decks
Description: use or keep?

kuang89 - October 9, 2007 10:03 AM (GMT)
Like car racers who talk about brands, let's talk abit about card brands. Although the most common one is from USPCC, discuss abit on different types of cards. Leave out bicycle rider backs, tally-hos...talk about those cards like gamblers, rambler, WPT cards, in short this thread is basically a one stop info for cards.

I'll start abit.
when it comes to magic performances, i think the best deck to use is hoyle, and it's lasting as well. or when i'm performing for a bigger group, i'll use gamblers.

for flourishing(i don't flourish much though), other than famous tally ho, i'll use those ellusionist decks, since it's open so the colours add to the aestatic values.

my thoughts

What are gamblers? The Richard Turner's?

My favourites are WPT (white borders), Tallys, Streamline and the Ghost deck.

Me cannot enlighten la, still not good enough.
Ya, gambler's is the richard turner's deck. The cards although do not have much difference from normal bee brands, the cards is thin and slightly stiff compared to bicycle, so ellusionist card's supporters will have a problem when using for first time. Also, the deck claims to be able to shuffle smoother face down than face up. By trying it, the difference is minor, but there is some wee bit of difference.

Just asking, does anyone have the older aristocrat? the one with the white border and the pattern-pattern back design?

what is "Richard Turner's" and "Streamline"? Where can I get it? pm me if it is not allowed to be disclosed here. The rules are really very restrictive.

I use mostly regular bikes for practising as it is cheap. My pro friends told me to use regulars for practise as it is more pragmatic. Only graduate to the expensive decks when you are good enough. My expensive decks are for collection only, or the rare performance.

Hmm... the truth is I never see any pro using expensive deck for performing.

For any purpose, just use regular bikes... regardless at which ever skill level you might be at.

cstrike - February 15, 2008 02:48 AM (GMT)
Agree. I feel that some of the expensive decks are thicker than the regular bikes so when you switch from regular bikes to those decks, not used to it. Takes a while to get the DL feeling right.

I saw a few guys using ghosts for street performance though. I think it is because ghost's quality is slightly better than regular and not that expensive too (around S$7)!

angkiki - February 15, 2008 12:09 PM (GMT)
But as your ghost or black tiger or whatever
expensive deck starts to warp and turn ugly ,
your heart also start to crack and soon shatter.
Haha , or at least for me thats what happens.

cstrike - February 18, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
Haha, me too. That's why my custom decks are only for collection and maybe the rare performance. I only practise with regular bikes.

But i think if you become very pro, you will start to feel that you deserve the best and want to use those custom decks. $12 or more for a deck won't feel anything to you because you feel that you are worth it. And also because those expensive decks last longer too.

muscleaxl - February 18, 2008 03:45 AM (GMT)
Hey, no... More expensive decks are not exactly better, in fact regular decks are easier to manipulate and it is much much better for real performance.

I think the impression that accomplished pros like to use "higher quality" decks is a marketing gimmick by ellusionist. The only time you see pros using them are when doing an advert for e.

I've a viper, a tiger, a ghost and a master deck but I never never like to use it for performance. Not that I'm a pro though...

cstrike - February 19, 2008 03:25 AM (GMT)
Haha... Thanks! Now I know that ellusionist is just an unscrupulous business...

From now on, my custom decks will be for collection only. I will only practise and perform with regulars bikes.

Reuben was just telling me that Ellusionist does not ship to Singapore anymore, after they changed to the new website. I went to the website and could not find the Singapore option when ordering either. Can anyone else confirm?

The BEST deck to perform magic with is Alladin and maybe Bics.

Magic is something there we have like a "power". You shouldnt be using special decks to do special things with cards.

However, maybe for flourishing you might wanna try more "attention seeking" decks. It is always better to juggle with colorful balls than 3 plain white ones.

Lots of flourishers uses alladin too, the old type (without the air cushion), as they are stiff.

Yup. Your friend Reuben is correct.

Did the Ellusionist have any good reason for not shipping to Singapore?

Is it because Singapore magicians don't buy anything from them? :P

Here's my opinion:

Tally Ho:
Tally ho's do last longer and resist my sweat (I sweat a lot on my palms) better. The fanning capabilities can last way longer than regular bikes.

Bikes:
They have the cheap feel but heck they're economical. Hahaha.. great for practicing. But somehow I do feel that it's easier to perform with bikes as it's thinner and the DLs aren't so obvious compared to those thicker decks like masters.

Ellusionist cards:
Can't deny that they look good and perhaps last slightly longer... yes flourishes will look very good but as for performing magic with them, it's not any easier as it's thicker. I think the cards are a bit overpriced especially the Tiger. :(

Mod's Note: There's enough exposure on the Internet without us adding to it here - do read the rules first. Have you posted an intro of yourself?
