Title: Impromptu 3 Fly
Description: Resources?

Hi guys,

I'm not the most knowing when it comes to coins, so I have always had the impression that the 3 fly routine is gaffed to hell and back. (Ok an exaggeration, but I don't generally like gaffs. Personal preference. Also the SG coin one is kinda hard to get.)

Recently I had the unexpected pleasure of seeing an impromptu version.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to learn this? DVD, book etc.

Thanks!

This one don't use gaffs. 3 Fly III

Chris Kenner 3 Fry routine uses also 3 regular coins, and is easier imo

Daryl's handling of 3 fly is the improvise of Chris Kenner's and some other magician, which i think is a lil more complicated and difficult to handle

3 fry It is available for download here :

I find it very hard to believe that Daryl improvised Chris Kenner's routine. <_<
I think it would be prudent of you to make sure you got your facts right before shooting off like that. Have you even seen any 3 Fly routine before?

And the routine on the link you posted is not even a 3 fly routine.
It's just 3 coin vanish then followed by production, named 3 Fry
I'm deleting the link.

Oh, I thought somebody misspelt fly to fry?

REally have a routine called 3 fry... Ok, sorry :off:

I know nuts about 3 fly or 3 flies. Bernard is the man for all coin things.

For Daryl's 3Fly III, the performance can be found on youtube. After looking at Daryl do it, i think it's really damn difficult to do, but daryl does it so effortlessly.

Anyway it's a nice routine with a few surprises here and there. I am also thinking about getting a 3fly routine but Daryl's cost about 30 bucks SGD to get, so i'm still considering.

I've also heard about Gary Kurtz' trio which is also a 3fly routine? Anyone has any comments of this one?

3 Fry is an actual effect. Its by Chris Kenner as well I can show you, its not too bad. Can actually use it to lead on to 3 Fly.

3 Fly... Yeah, it's one of my favourite coin effect. I've still yet to get Daryl's 3 Fly III handling down perfectly.

ZiAn: If you remember correctly, I did perform for you once with your chinese coins during Silver Ribbon. It was'nt that nice la when I did it coz i kinda fumbled it :P Don't need to learn from Daryl, I can teach you for 25SGD, confirm buay pai one haha...

The history of 3 Fly goes back quite a while. If what I heard is correct, the 1st person who came up with the idea was actually Johnathan Townsend. He had an idea of a visible coins across effect and he showed it to Chris Kenner who eventually came up with final product of 3 Fly and published it in his book Totally Out of Control.

At the same time when Chris publised his 3 Fly, Gary Kurtz also published his very visual coin routine call TRIO. However, 3 Fly was more popular or should I say more circulated around the magic scene because TRIO was a rather sleight intensive routine. TRIO is not just a 3 Fly, it consists of a 3 coin production, vanish then production and then a fingertip coins across routine. Its a very beautiful rountine which I'm trying to get the handling down. Hope I can get a video up soon... ^_^

As Chris Kenner himself admits, "Gary's work is fantastic and only Gary can do Gary's work". Well I don't agree with him, it just a matter or dedication and practice. Due to the fact that Gary's fingertip coins across was part of TRIO, its popularity was overshadowed by Chris's 3 Fly. Which I personally feel is rather sad but then again its my personal opinion. :P I Love TRIO alot and a lot of respect for Gary Kurtz for his work.

Matt: If you really want to learn one thats Gaffless, I can say Daryl's 3 Fly III is good and not too difficult. Another one you can check out is Troy Hooser's version in one of his Total Destruction Dvd. He has both gaff and gaffless versions.

Ok since I'm on a roll here with 3 Fly. You guys gotta check out this video:

Jack Sent it to me and I was conned big time. Pls post commets of the video in the other thread. We should keep this thread just for 3 Fly discussion. Thanks... ^_^

Cheers
Jerome

In Daryl 3 fly III, he did mention that Chris Kenner taught him his 3 fly(fry) routine
( I'm not sure because the 3 coin vanish and appearance taught in theory11 is named 3 fry, perhaps he has another 3FLY routine, I'm sorry if the 3 FRY is not his original 3 FLY , fly and fry sounds alike)

The fact is Daryl mention that he played with Chris' and Gary Kurtz's routines for years, added many things and taken many things away from it, and came out with his favourite handling.( is that improvising? modifying? or innovating? )

I can do the 3 fry quite well but I'm still stuck at 3 fly III handling.

Just to clarify here. Kenner never named his "3 fly" as it is. It is called "Menage et trios". Just not to confuse with "threefry" that is also in his book.

Handlings of this 3 coin transpo thing is going everywhere. Ranging from Daryl Martinez, Gary Kurtz, Chris Kenner, Bob Kohler, Jonathan Townsend, Troy Hooser...

The best I have seen so far is still Kenner's version as far as it is impromtu.

By the way, "threefry" originally ends with all the silver coins turning copper. Too bad Chris Kenner never taught it on the T11 video. It's better to have it stay in the book.

hey.

WTH. Menage a trois? Its threesome in french. Yes the threesome you're thinking of. Didn't know magicians had that kind of humor! I hope this post isnt too suggestive.

Gary Kurtz's full routine is about the only stand up coin routine I've been doing since I set eyes on it sometime during the late nineties (alongside Flurious). The Visible Coins Across phase is only one component.

It's got about everything you need in a coin effect. Productions, vanishes, transportations and transformations.

If only doing a "3Fly", I'm doing an un-gaffed version.

I have a walk-around version I perform as well for my work.

Yes... In the book its called that, I'm afraid. Chris Kenner has humor littered all over the book.

phsycofreak - November 2, 2007 11:00 AM (GMT)
yup its menage et trois(french) found in his book totally out of control , it is quite difficult but with enough practise ---trust me this looks like a miracle

try a 4 coins across by chris kenner too its called the deep and found inside coin one by homer liwag(one of the best coin workers). i have not seen the effect but heard good review on it. but dont get the coin one for deep.

coin one is an awsome routine (watch the trailer and get fooled-imean it)
but it needs a e[ to achieve it but if u got an american e [ then go ahead.
