What you guys think of this? Maybe you guys had saw it our something? And the cards there they were selling for $5 per pack. The person there saw those were cards suitable for magic.. feel so angry.. they were not even normal cards. they were much smaller!!! And the price of the cards are more expensive then Bicycles!!! The brand name was Andy's Magic. LOL. Maybe you guys know more about this?

Andy is from Hong Kong and has quite a "reputation". These guys are very good pitchers. Once you see their performance, if you're a layman, you'll probably want to buy it from them.

They come and go all the time. They were here 2 yrs ago and now they're back again. They'l leave again and they'll come back again. What I don't like about them is, they'll vanish a silk and then show how its done using TT.

That guy can muscle pass with both hands.

Xtreme - December 29, 2004 11:02 AM (GMT)
LOL. at yishun there. near my house ma. Had been here for quite sometime liao. Is their stuff good anot? LOL.. i see they selling china stuff so expensive. Ya.. $5 for 1 pack of cards.. Nutso...lol

SeNgHoE - December 29, 2004 11:04 AM (GMT)
Wow muscle pass with both hands is POWERFUL ah, HOW Come coin can fly one.

Ok, but the exposure of the TT is FRIGGIN NOT POWERFUL AH...

Haha.. Sure earn alot. 5 dollar a deck.

illusionist - December 29, 2004 11:04 AM (GMT)
Hmm.. Andy magic heard before lah .... saw their perfromance at bugis that time lol.. also setting up a small table and selling their stuff.. hmm their gimmick is those cheap kind.. and to lay people yep when they see it and tey will consider buying lol.. If I recommend get Fanstma magic from Toy R Us is a better buy .. :D

Xtreme - December 29, 2004 11:12 AM (GMT)
LOLZZZ.. people are just curious and they simply buy stuff without thinking of other factors. They just want to know how the trick is done. Haha.. but thier performance not bad la.

Magicdow - December 29, 2004 11:16 AM (GMT)
This shows that even with sub-standard props, one can still have a good performance.
I got to admit that the way they handle their stuff is very good. The quality of the deck is not very good. I wouldn't advice on getting their stuff.

Kevin - December 29, 2004 11:30 AM (GMT)
Hehe... well, you should go do what I would do to them.. pretend to be a layperson at first. Then when they ask you to shuffle the deck or handle the gimmicks or something, bust a move. Even better, make a gimmick vanish and say it disappeared cos it was "magic". :D

Damn, it's good to be a magician B)

err...mod, exposure? I wouldn't mind paying them money to teach muscle pass...lolx Xtreme you also live in Yishun ar?

Back to the topic, its not the first time, if you guys go to Yishun 10, this aunty stall sells chinese box of card tricks costing $2 each gimmick. I dunno issit instruction booklet in the box of vcd lar, but the tricks written in chinese and i think got invisible pass and stuff....Its not the first time this kinda shit appears and im not surprised, if you go malaysia got alot of this shit and some guys over there are much more expert @ card handling.

You can't stop this people lar, i believe you guys have covered similar stuff like this, whatever is sold to laymen, if they dun practice, they won't get anywhere. the most is you do the trick they say they know it. Give it to them lar. Unless you guys can train till a card techinian then "TIAN BU PA DI BU PA" liao lor.

I can teach you the muscle pass for free B) but will you work it till you can do it? ;)

To me, it doesn't matter if the guy can muscle pass with his butt crack, he obviously has no interest in the well being of the magic scene, or none in the local magic scene at least.
Sure magic dealers sell magic in everywhere in the world where there's a demand, but magic dealers usually (USUALLY) does make a contribution to the local magic scene, in the education of it and the formation of the community, implicit or explicite.
This guerrilla style sales tactics shows that they are only interested in making a few quick bucks from layman and getting out of here. No support, no follow up, no nothing. Just that's it.
People who does this does NOTHING for the local magic scene except to a few more hecklers for the local performers.
I am still very much for Makanmonkey's "Intention and Accessibility" theory.

Now maybe him by himself will not do so much damage. Unfortunately, most asian has the "if they can do it, why can't I?" mentality. That's when other half baked magicians will start selling all sorts of stuff everywhere, ebay, pasar malam, supermarket, online, offline, door to door.....and breed more hecklers.

Layman/hecklers will not appriciate the finer points of a performance. They are only going to think "it's all just bluff kiddie stuff" when they know the secret.
When such an opinion prevails generally, people are less likely to appriciate magic as a form of entertainment. They are less likely to consider engaging a magic show for their events and functions. And with that less jobs for local magicians.
It's all branding and marketting people. It's why billions of dollars are spent on selling soft drinks. When the name stinks, it doesn't matter how good the product is.
Sooner or later, some other magicians are gonna give up or forced to start mass marketting style of selling magic secrets, and the vicious cycle carries on...

Of course everyone must make some money to live the next day. But is it really not possible to make a living with magic while maintaining a basic respect for it?
Afterall, if you are depending on it for a living, all the more reason you should take care of it. If we all go with this "take it for all it's worth while I can" attitude, sooner or later we will just kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

But maybe for Andy it doesn't matter because it's not even his goose B)

LOL ... Muscle isn't really exposure, i got a few people saying "Hey i saw how you did that, i know how to do it"

Edwin: Here's my Half Dollar, *Do it !*

Spect: *Urghh* How come cannot jump, i am doing the same way as you did.

Muscle pass isn't something you can just see and master it straight away, the fastest i saw someone mastering it was around 20 mins. Took off from his hand to the height of 1 inch. Lol

Took me around 1 day to get the jumping sequence right, and during practice my whole palm is sore and red for 2 whole weeks till i can't even muscle pass.
Haha *Peace*

Back to topic :X

ReDeFiNe - December 30, 2004 02:15 AM (GMT)
that Andy guy is really good a spoofing stuff...whahah..i got a couple of "fake-kini" mutiplying balls from him..haha...the kind of stuff he has at magic conventions are slightly diff to that of laymen..he has good stuff..i also got a 5 " linking rings so call 24 K gold ..haha...

Last heard he got into some kind of argument with another dealer at AMA (Asia MAgicians Association ) Convention in China...

Gician sells some of his stuff (during our monthy IBM meeting) ....price is resonable...

Ning - December 30, 2004 03:04 AM (GMT)
Gician's stuff was selling @ Taka Sq during Xmas... I think 3 tricks in a tin can going for about less than $15? This Andy guy is apparently quite a character... :ph43r: Pirated magic products!! :P

ReDeFiNe - December 30, 2004 03:06 AM (GMT)
yeah...gician's new tin cans are cool..his idea is that people cannot just open the cans and see whats inside...many of Fantasma's set actually got opened and stunned...hmm..i have been making complains ..hope situations improve....

GordonLi - January 2, 2005 07:06 AM (GMT)
and sell cheap or pirated imitations of magic stuff (unethical)

Xtreme - January 2, 2005 07:24 AM (GMT)
hmmm. yesterday i went down to hav a look.. AND IT'S GONE!!! lol.. wonder if it's still there.. haha.

magi81 - January 3, 2005 03:22 AM (GMT)
can't say much about this Andy, never ever seen him perform before...
but, i've been to jb and saw those china magis selling gimmicks too...

i think they are selling as a package: the linking rings, tt, 2 decks of cards, 10vids teaching magic, plus the sponge rabbit(sorry, i cant rem the actual name for this gimmick)..for...150 RM....
equiv to 60+ SGD...(of cus, all the gimmicks are made-in-china quality)...

and the noticeable fact is that they are very good in their performance..
and obviously, i saw lotsa ppl buying from them...

Brendan - January 3, 2005 08:32 AM (GMT)
true true... but their quality sux man.. i got the pen thru dollar one the other day... really crap lor.. lol... but i guess it good for collection... that all not really for performance coz u might stuff up due to its quality. lol
