Title: Needs Forward Planning
Description: Themes for Focus Sessions
AdrianLee - November 28, 2007 10:50 PM (GMT)
2007 has been an eventful year, with plenty of activities such as the Focus Sessions (Uplifting session, Shuffling Around session, Misdirection session, Side-steal session) being well-received by our members. As such, we are planning to include a series of Focus Sessions in 2008, not unlike those which were conducted this year.
To help us understand your interests better in order to have Focus Sessions on themes/topics that you are interested in, we have created this poll.
Each person has 2 choices of the themes/topics listed in the poll. If your theme/topic of interest is not among those listed, please select Others and then specify your preferred theme/topics in your post/reply.
Hopefully, through this poll, we can narrow down the themes/topics to those which are most popular/most requested to suit your needs.

The highlights of the year 2007, will now stay with us as part of our memory, especially to the people who were with us. From the introduction of the monthly meet-ups at Delifrance @ Toa Payoh, to Legerdemain @ UPCC, to the focus sessions (as mentioned by Adrian) has been pretty successful and enjoyable. Thank you!
However, many of you might or might not have noticed, but for the events that took place in 2007, MANY of them were done on impluse, and without the proper planning. We agree that it's not the best, but we are trying our very best for the good of the forums and you, the forumites.
So in order for us, SMC and more importantly, YOU, to enjoy more well-planned and organised activities in the next year, please participate in the poll and we will try our very best to plan and accomodate for all the activities for next year.
Your VOTE is important to us! Thank You!
Cheers!

Although I am card focused, I would like to explore other genres of magic to gain perspective.
I would like a session on metal bending. My metal bending act doesn't have a good climax, and I think learning more about about the subject would help me.
Balloon twisting gets my vote as well, since most magicians also are expected to be balloon twisters.

Greetings,
How about animal magic?
No1 in SMC is involved in animal magic?
I personally feel animal magic gets the biggest claps, roars and excitement.
Eg.Dove production, rabbit from hat ,fish from bowl
Best :g: Regards

Animal magic is OUT.
Not because it's not a good genre, but I think in this time and age, it's not just tacky, it's also cruel. It takes a TREMENDOUS amount of effort and dedication to put an animal act together. And 10 times as much to look after them.
While most magicians are capable of doing the former, majority are careless to a fault when it comes to caring for their animals. I don't think we'd want to promote a new brand of moronic animal 'napping teens contributing to the avian flu scare. Let's face it - most of us don't have 2 cents worth of an inkling of how to look after ourselves; let alone a pet/animal for one's act.
I have every respect for the experienced magicians who've taken animal magic to an art form, but I do not approve of the entire genre to begin with and will not promote it.

Hmmm.. well i think i'd like to a focus session on coins. But that's just me because i'm pretty much just starting out there and i may need more guidance that most people. But metal bending, cards are fine with me too.. =)) Just a slight preferance only..

Focus sessions on card palms will be good. I feel that most card workers are missing out on one of the best things in card magic. If a card worker can do that well, miracles will happen.

Greetings,
Animal Magic - Some magicians are cruel to animals and take advantage of them just for the sake for performance applauds.
I love animals and have a passion in this category. So I will never hurt my animals for magic.I make sure they are able to adapt to my tricks by giving them proper training and treats.
Actually I am not an expert here.I am a newbie too.
I am moving into Animal magic and if anyone interested ,can join me.We can share ideas and make animal magic more entertaining.
Best Regards

I'd like to see somebody make it interesting for the animals.

Hmm... actually, I voted for coins.
Just to have something cater to people who might be interested in other genre other than cards.
Didn't realized there are so many people interested in self-working tricks. Why? Don't like to put in the hard work huh? :P

I actually think self working tricks can be really powerful if it's presented right.. and presentation is hard work tooooo!!! haha =))

First of all, thank you to all of you for providing with your feedback.
But i must also add that while many of you may have different requests, the mods team must also find the right person to teach/share these techniques.
Most important of all, we would like to remind you that while we would like to, by sharing with you all through these sessions, bring up the standard of magic and magicians in SMC/Singapore, we do not want to encourage people to be lazy.
Many of the things that we've put up for poll are actually found in numerous materials that are out in the market. If one is a sincere learner, one can easily pick up such materials and learn directly. Bare in mind that we are not here to provide you with FREE lectures so that you can learn eg. balloon twisting or a new self working effect.
Our main aim is to help people who have been trying to learn a sleight but hasn't had enough guidance to get it down 'perfect'. It is also for people who are competent to come down and share ideas or tips or subtlties that may accompany these sleights.
Therefore, when you all vote, think about what you want to improve in.
