Title: Bicycle Cards
ChanZiAn - December 1, 2007 05:47 AM (GMT)
Hey guys, i have got a great deal on Bicycle Cards and would like to extend this to all of you.
My fren just came back from the states and he brought back some bicycles. He is letting them go at:
$4 Per deck
$45 Per box of 12 decks ($3.75 per deck)
He brought back quite alot of decks so don't worry, i'm sure there's enough to go around. Just PM me!
I think this is probably the best price you can get anywhere in singapore!

bigbadwolf - December 1, 2007 05:51 AM (GMT)
erm, the dealers are selling for $42 per dozen. I don't that your price is the lowest price.
Your friend should have gotten Studs from the States. That would have give him profits.
Shade - December 1, 2007 07:04 AM (GMT)
I used to get all my cards at the direct distributer in Singapore at $42 per dozen, but I usually have to buy at least 3 dozen. Then there is also a 7% GST which actually means I'm paying $45 per dozen anyway. As far as I know, it's the cheapest one can get in Singapore. They are the direct supplier for Golden Landmark as well.
However, as of late, the quality of the cards have dropped drastically. I'm not sure if it's an inferior run of cards or otherwise, but the edges are cut so poorly that I feel like I'm using a joke of a svengali deck.
If possible, I'd like a sample deck to test out first Zian. If it looks good, I'd make a good order.

LOL. That's right, that's why for months now I've only ordered them from the States (USPC USA) because I've also noticed that even the printing for some are also way off & I wouldn't want Magic Boutique selling them.
Maybe Zian can also bring them for the next SMC meeting, I'm sure there'll be magicians who'd wanna buy a deck or two since there will be sessioning with cards anyways ^_^
muscleaxl - December 5, 2007 04:08 AM (GMT)
Hey, talking about decks, the last Tally-Ho deck I got was pretty F up. The edges were very rough, doesn't feel like a new deck.
Just wondered what happened to the quality control of USPCC? If their supposedly best deck, the Tallys, are in such poor condition, what about their bikes?
Ok, sorry... slightly off topic.
Shade - December 5, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
Firstly, I'd like to thank BigBadWolf for revealing his source to me(privately of course); I appreciate it.
But the generalised post he made earlier made it sound like any magic shop is selling a dozen at $42 flat. He was actually referring to an online dealer; not all dealers.
Anyway, I digress. As of late the stock of cards that I have been getting from my regular supplier has (for some reason or other) dropped in quality. Although I'd be the first to accept any minor fluctuations in quality when it comes to playing cards, I have to say that the latest deviation from quality is starting to irritate me. Misprinted (off centre, faded... etc) I can deal with; but poorly cut corners and sides I really cannot stomach. It throws off much of the more detailed work you can do with a deck of cards.
Anyway, Zian very graciously passed me a blue deck as a sample to test. I put it through the usual tests I perform whenever I'm toying with a deck's quality.
The new cards slid out of the cardcase like a dream. Some cards come out as a block - a sure sign that the cards have been kept for too long. I was worried that the reason he manged to get them at such a low price is because the stock's been around for too long. I was thankful that my misgivings were unfounded.
I have no complains about colour - this is standard from USPC; anyway, the colours change from one batch to another batch. It has something to do with the manufacturing process - they can never seem to get the EXACT same blue. This seems more pronounced with the red cards though. But the print is slightly off centre, which also seems to be another consistent thing about USPC - all their cards are usually printed slightly off centre. LOL. Check it out: both the faces AND the backs!

Well, there are many devious and nefarious uses for such cards; I won't go into detail here, but the wise cardman knows how to exploit such inconsistencies to his advantage.
The texture is consistent with the standard air-cushion finish, but the stock is slightly thinner than the ones supplied to me by my regular supplier. It's quite negligible, but since I always preferred thinner stock anyway, I took to it well from the onset.
The edges are cut well - smoother than the ones I got from my supplier anyway. Check it out:

My regular supplier's deck is on the left. You can see that some of the edges are actually protruding - rest assured that I had the deck squared up tight. Somehow during the cutting process, some cards were cut a little less?More? Who knows? It screws up all major riffle shuffling work! Zian's sample deck (top right) looks so smooth I could use it to wipe a baby's ass!
The fact that the deck has no protruding edges makes my life a lot easier - runups and precise shuffle work on the table is less difficult.
Anyway, the final test for me is always the faro test. The deck faros perfectly in the hands. In fact, some cards have their edges cut so badly it takes a few runs, shuffles and quite a bit of handling before the deck actually faros. Elmsley has a very innovative way of solving this (check out his Collected Works, Vol 2. If you can get a hold of it. Still.)
Finally, I put the deck to the challenge of a tabled faro. Since this precise work requires that BOTH the edges AND the corners are cut well, it's a good test of the card's cutting. It usually takes a new deck some breaking into before it would faro well on the table, but this deck didn't need much coaxing. Almost fresh out of the deck, watch it go!
tabled faro testTo sum things up, this deck's a sure fire go for me. I'm getting my next 3 dozen from Zian. At least until he runs out of stock. :)

Axl: Sorry i don't have any tally ho leh...how?
AhLiShuFi - December 5, 2007 05:50 AM (GMT)
Can i choose to have a dozen of mix red and blue? If yes, 8 red and 4 blue for me. Otherwise, a dozen of red is fine. Thanks.
ChanZiAn - December 5, 2007 06:56 AM (GMT)
Normally in a dozen it's 6red and 6blue. Is that ok with you shufi?
bigbadwolf - December 5, 2007 07:02 AM (GMT)
That is quite a review. Never know a deck of cards need to go through so many test. If I can't tabled faro, what are the alternatives? In the hands faro?
Cheers.
P.S. Sorry folks for the previous misleading post of mine :(

I actually have equal number of red and blue decks, so if you are requesting a odd number of red and blue, i will try to accomodate, but no promise.
I forgot to mention that a dozen normally comes in 6reds & 6 blues. So you have a special request, just put ur name down and we'll see if i have enough to go around. To be fair to everyone right?

Right now most people are requesting for more red decks. I'm sure some people would prefer to work to blue decks? Anyway? -hehe-

just a comment. For those misprint, I believe you can send it back to them with the Ace and the defective cards and they will send you a deck.
anyone did that before?
I was just wondering... how did your friend brought back 30 dozen? when i was in the states and I brought back 2 dozen it already weights a ton in my bag. I got mine for about US$15 a dozen. that's about 20 something with today's exchange rate. Just curious!

ChanZiAn - December 7, 2007 06:30 PM (GMT)
Wah, 20bucks SGD for a dozen of bikes? That's pretty cheap. I believe that would be the cheapest way to guy bikes, direct from america.
Unfortunately, getting them back to Singapore is the difficult part. We are half way around the world, give and take, so shipping is not cheap.
The price i mentioned is offered by my friend. He is the one that got in touch with the dealer in the states, collected the cards personally from the warehouse and still had to ship them back himself. My god, that's quite alot of work and i believe that there is barely any profit for him. But he's a really good friend so hopefully i can persuade him to go through the process again. Haha.
