Title: SMC T-shirt
Description: Will you buy it?
Shade - December 7, 2007 08:15 AM (GMT)
I'm just toying with the idea of making a run of SMC T Shirts. But how many people here will actually buy it (much less wear it)?
Of course, to keep costs low, we'll have to use the minimum number of colours...
Let me hear your thoughts guys and gals!
If you chose "NO" you don't have to select the price range; but if you chose either of the "YES" responses, do give us an estimate of how much you'd be willing to pay for the T-Shirt. It'll help us to plan what type of material and how far we can push the design specs.
Do feel free to post any other thoughts you might have here too.

Here's an interesting mockup done by our MR SMC himself!

Think a new run of shirts will be nice. I've ordered for the last run but forgot to take and it was being sold. =(
And i think black would be more of a formal? and white would be more casual. That's what i felt. ^^

I agree on the black being more formal part. But from a performance point of view, most of the time you'd be wearing a jacket (which is usually going to be black), the white would be a nice contrast on the inside.
The design has not been finalised yet anyway, I'm just feeling out the forum to see if we have enough demand to even warrant putting ourselves through the effort of designing one. So the 'mockup' you see is simply that -a 'mock up'. Nothing is finalised.

PS: My personal feeling is, if we're going to do it, we'd best do it right; go for the best we can afford. :) Being a cheapfart now will be nothing more than preparing for a potential regret.

i am happy with good cotton material. Dry fit is a bit too sporty if we're talkin about wearing it for performance.

Can I suggest a collars for the shirt? Hmm, looks more formal from my point of view ^_^

Yup, i agree. I think a collar t-shirt maybe a polo t would be better?
And having a collar seems to look better. =)

I always prefered non-collared Tees, I find them more comfortable and cheaper.
But that's up to the majority in this case. If we do go ahead and make this, the first priority is to make sure it's affordable to the majority. And it makes more sense to go ahead and make ONE order of the SAME type to increase the bulk discount. We might make another order later with a different design, but I doubt we'd please everyone with the first order... :P
Still, once we have the numbers, we'll go ahead and design and order it. We'll have an online T shirt design competition for this later if it's a go. Most importantly, I think if you plan to make an order, we'll need to collect the money first this time. Last time, Lukold made a number of orders but I believe some people didn't collect. Even if you're going to be irresponsible, don't saddle the cost of the Tshirt with somebody else...

If its possible, we can first find out what's the price with the collar and without the collar.
For the tee, will there be any wordings printed in front or the back of the shirt?
I think we must show the printing company our designs first as I heard of some companies charging a little more for some extra designs or even wordings.
Peace=)

I hope you don't mind me giving my feedback below.
I think that the shirt should have the words "Singapore Magic Circle" printed on it, somewhere, visibly. Just putting a large logo on it won't do much good because most people don't know the logo belongs to SMC. People will just think that it is an overpriced Tshirt, which defeats the purpose. People who buy it would want to feel part of the SMC, and what good is there in a shirt with no words whatsoever to declare it's identity?
Personally, I would also prefer the shirt to be a little bit more formal looking in order to reflect the professionalism of SMC and project magic as an art form or hobby, and not as a dark art/cult.

Big logo (like the pic), no wording (so it looks more like a cool t-shirt then a JC orientation t-shirt), not expensive (cause i am a poor army man)
The... Place my name on the list!!!!! B)

May I suggest that the shirt include some gaffed portions?
Maybe a reveal of a card index somewhere?
Wouldn't it be nice if behind under the collar line it would have these words
"By the way, the card you picked in the beginning was the 8 of hearts"
or something...
just my $0.02

Wow, Reuben_Wong, that's a very good idea!
I think the price can sky-rocket because of that and people will still be willing to buy. Now that's a true SMC T-shirt!

I would prefer a shirt that has a simple but classy look. Not too jazzed up. That would allow it to be more versatile in matching clothes.
Does the company you are getting the shirts printed from allow things to be printed under the collar? If so, it would be great. otherwise, having it incorporated in the logo would be just as good.
