TheSilentillusionist - December 9, 2007 05:08 AM (GMT)

Part 1Part 2Really nice performance.
bigbadwolf - December 9, 2007 07:03 AM (GMT)
The event organisers paid him 300,000NT for that performance. Isn't it nice to be a magician? ^_^

Wow! How much in SGD is that? Lols. But he is really good. And he earned that much $ in like less than a 15mins act?!
christo - December 9, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
I heard its 10000000 Japanese Yen for this 10 minutes show
Liu Chen was complaining about it, why hire overseas magicians instead of local professionals? haha

Lols, how did you know he was complaining?
bigbadwolf - December 9, 2007 02:49 PM (GMT)
300,000NT about 13000SGD
Lu Chen can wait for the 45th annual awards
AhLiShuFi - December 9, 2007 02:52 PM (GMT)
13000SGD?! WOW!!!! That's what an average Singaporean earn in months. No wonder Liu Chen complained.
Doublelifter - December 9, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
Ok, pay us 2000SGD and we can perform the ACR up
to the pop-up part....still good money for a decent
ACR. I guess the signed card back to sealed deck
is the part that's where all the money goes. The
difference between the Heavenly Kings of Magic and
us mere mortals....sigh! :(
TheSilentillusionist - December 9, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
I would say pay every one of us 1k each, so if there is 13 of us, we can do table hopping. Lols. Do some ACR and card to pocket. Lols.

Pay me 2000SGD and I can perform up to the signed card to sealed deck ending.
13000SGD is really alot of money. But I guess that's normal for world class magicians.
feifei - December 11, 2007 09:05 AM (GMT)
Sandra Wu Jiun Ru tried to grab the top card from him .. hehe...
When they said he was performing, I was hoping it to be more than an ACR..

Even its just an ACR, the performer itself also have to put a lot of work in it to perfect it and bring out the entertainment. But the climax was at the ending where he "rewind" time and make the card back into the sealed box. Lols.
christo - December 11, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
This is a link to Liu Chen's Blog
http://www.wretch.cc/blog/luchenmagicHe talked about it in 1 of the previous entries
Its completely in mandarin tho
Well, 10000000 yen is about Rm300000....
So, it is not just Sgd 13000
TheSilentillusionist - December 12, 2007 06:55 AM (GMT)
Can't really understand what he is saying. Anybody good in Chinese language kind enough to translate a bit? Lols. The first two post on his blog posted in December 4, 2007 talked about Cyril.

Oh, without doubt I was impressed by his ACR, he did it flawlessly and with a kicker finish. It was just because I have been seeing too many card tricks lately, ace of spade can even appear in my dreams now. So I was hoping that since he took the trouble to travel to taiwan, was hoping that he did something like draw a thanksgiving turkey on a notepad, then magically pull the turkey out of the notepad, showing now an empty plate on the notepad, then magically revive the cooked turkey to a live turkey :g:
bigbadwolf - December 12, 2007 12:02 PM (GMT)
I try to do a "readable" translation. My mandarin isn't that powerful either.
Dec 4 2007
I'm currently in Japan preparing a TV special, coincidentally the production company is the same one as Cyril's. Tonight I had dinner with the producer, the crew and some of the people from Cyril's agent company.
Over dinner I mentioned how the organisers of the this year's Golden Horse Award have spent 10,000,000YEN to engage Cyril's service to do a 10 minutes performance for the annual event. Everybody were feeling ridiculous. Some said the Taiwanese are rich, some were curious what exactly is Cyril going to perform for 10,000,000YEN, while there were others who felt that Cyril's fees are unjustified. However what I felt is that the people are saying we Taiwanese are "carrot heads" (sorry for this part I do not know the proper English term for it, anyway "carrot head" means "overpaying for something") what Cyril demands, we deliver.
Of course, I'm not saying that foreign performers are no good, but the ones in Taiwan are not that bad either.
Still, I wonder, what is Cyril going to perform...
TheSilentillusionist - December 12, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
An ACR already cost so much money, with your request, you might need to pay him much more to produce a live turkey. Lols.
cl3BerbOi - December 16, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
Sorry. i am a newbie in magic right now.
ACR means the signature card trick?
what is the long form for that?
bigbadwolf - December 16, 2007 04:02 PM (GMT)
Always Coming Rup or also intimately known as the Ambitious Card Routine
cl3BerbOi - December 16, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
Is there any dvds or ways you can introduce to me regarding this trick?
i am quite into cards trick recently. thank u :D
LarryDK - December 16, 2007 06:33 PM (GMT)
There are no standard books that teaches this routine. 90% of the routine, up to the pop up moves, can be found in the DVD from Ellusionist - Street Magic.
I remember Royal road to card magic should contain the techniques, but not the routine.
Basically, the routine is not standard and can varies from person to person. The last part of the routine, card to unopen box, is unknown from me. Maybe someone can highlight where the technique is taught.

It can be found in Theater Close-up Vol 2 by Greg Gleason.

Daryl has a very good ACR video too.
TheSilentillusionist - December 17, 2007 09:40 AM (GMT)
Crash Course 2 touches mainly on Ambitious Card Routine only. I think thats the DVD you should get if you want to pick up ACR. It teaches you various techniques and presentations. Its good for beginners ;)
Icy - December 17, 2007 12:47 PM (GMT)
Well, his performance didn't impress the Hong Kong news media, as I have read from the newspaper. -_-
cl3BerbOi - December 17, 2007 04:34 PM (GMT)
can i know where to get the dvds to these magic?
crash course II and Theater Close-up Vol 2 by Greg Gleason.

zengrr - December 19, 2007 12:27 PM (GMT)
seems like most of u guys did not mention the "matrix-like" effect at the end. I personally feel that the effect is pretty cool !
