dude....it's difficult to do 45 min to 1 hr stage show.
You might want to consider shortening it.

Please get the organiser to pay full price for the performance to whoever is performing! I believe many people have discuss in SMC before regarding the charges and rate, just a reminder that these big chairty event have huge budget, since everything else are paid for why are magicians not paid and require volunteer? Just because they claim it's a charity event does not means it free!
Since it's a carnival they will expect lots of people there, worse of all it's a public event and they're asking for free!? What the hell! Please tell them off! Everyone in SMC please help to educate them please! Professionals will DIE because of such organisers!
45 mins - 1hr stage performance at Amphi-Threatr FREE!? What are these guys thinking!? That's equal to a stage size illusion productions!
Fund raising? Pay performer the full price and collect $ from the public at the end of the show! All $ collected will goes to whatever chairty they're doing for. That's fund raising!
I'm sorry I sound angry because I AM ANGRY with these people! Really sorry if I offend anyone...

Cool down Alan,
Just to clarify, this is a no budget project organized by the committee to help raise fund for the home. The committee are all students, and not those big charity organizers. Also, not everything was paid for, almost everything for the carnival and the place is sponsor for.
I know its pretty unfair to professionals doing shows for free. I told the committee its pretty hard to get people to perform for free, esp stage magic, but I think its worth a try and maybe someone can help.
I totally understand Alan's approach as it will spoil the market around, but like i said, its volunteer. But I still sorry for the approach of magicians for free.
As for the time frame, this is what the committee requested but if anyone is interested, we can discuss solutions with the committee.
Sorry if I offended anyone also. :)

Hey Larry, sorry for being so angry, I understand your point of view, but like what you said: Everything for the carnival and place are sponsored for.
So my question to these people is "Why can't the sponser sponsor the performer or performance?" it just doesn't make any sense...
Yes I know they are student, they do not come out with the money and they do not have the money, what about the sponsor? I'm sure they approach the sponsors? Get them to talk to the sponsor about this issue.
If the performer wants to do it free, ask for payment as well. Then use the payment received to donate back, it'll make the performer looks good and also maintain the image of being professional enough in handling such event. Doesn't it raise more funds this way?
And for anyone who have problem asking for money at the end of the show feel free to approach me, i'm trained on the street, i can advice some ways to collect money. Do consider...

Good Idea Alan,
I talk to the committee about it.
Well, in the end, anyone that are interested, please let me know, we can discuss the issues clearly on a personal basics.
Thanks.

I just noticed this charity request. Just a thought, Larry... instead of just one solo performer doing a 45min/ 1 hour stage act as previously requested, why not ask for 2 performers doing a standard half hour stage act?
Aloy is right in that it is no easy task. I personally think that it'd be great experience for aspiring stage performers & certainly much more feasible if you allow 2 people to fill this slot instead. Otherwise, you can even consider 3 stage performers doing a 20min act instead so quality is not affected.
All this subject to what Alan mentioned so no one gets exploited, dependent of the context of the arrangements within the charity which you'd be familiar with of course :) My 2cents.

By when must confirm? Can I confirm closer to the date? I might be able to squeeze abit of time to help with a segment of the show.
LarryDK - January 15, 2008 03:28 AM (GMT)
Hmm, I agree with Ning.
I will break it up into 2 slots of 30 min for 2 stage performers.
Those that are interested, please send me ur particulars and rate and I will direct you to the incharge for discussion. (Since I only the middle man)
Lastly, Shufi, Thanks for the interest, how late is it? Cause I guess it will be better to get it settled by end of this week, as they need to find replacement for that slot if no one is interested. :)

If you already have performer, then it's ok. Keep us all updated whether or not you've already found the 2 stage performers. I am still discussing with some potential clients regarding their shows. So, I still can't be sure if I can squeeze time for this one.
