Title: Handphone To Bottle

BangHao - January 11, 2008 08:47 AM (GMT)
Anyone know any handphone to bottle effect? Which book or DVD to get. Lu Chen did this with a borrowed bottle and handphone and even get someone to sign on the bottle. Hopefully there is no stooge.

Some effects are too good to be true and when you discover the method, it is probably not good for close up magic; be it too angle sensitive. Does it apply for this effect? You can borrow both handphone and bottle and just push the handphone into the bottle?? sound abit too good to be true.

Magicdow - January 12, 2008 11:44 PM (GMT)
You prepare the bottle infront of the spec. So both items can be borrowed. Don't think angle is a big issue.

Behold The Scarabaeus.

It can be done close up. Relatively easy to perform. And yes. You can borrow both handphone and bottle. You can then take a knife that has been with the spectator since the start of the trick and cut the bottle open to remove the handphone. I only performed this once last year to a group of about 15-20 friends and up to now, I still get requests from friends to perform this again - especially from my girlfriend. But I always have to turn them down because you need a gimmick, so you cannot perform unless you bring the gimmick along. The gimmick is well made and much thought has gone into its construction. There is no set up. The bottle can be examined even after you have pass the knife to the spectator to keep. No bottle S***ch or anything like that.

You guys make me feel like playing with this trick again. :D

Thanks for your comments on these issue, i was watching Lu Chen performing this effect with both borrowed handphone and bottle. Effect is vey strong, very visual.

Sorry joeltay81, i tried to PM you but your mailbox is full.
Behold The Scarabaeus.
can this trick be examined by the audience when the phone is still inside?
thanks.

bigbadwolf - January 14, 2008 05:59 AM (GMT)
No you can't. There is a necessary cleanup before you can hand the bottle and phone back.

cl3BerbOi - January 14, 2008 09:21 AM (GMT)

If you have noticed, everyone here starts a sentence with a capital letter and I hope you can follow our rules here. Please read the rules if you have not done so. Thanks.

cl3BerbOi,

As BigBagWolf mentioned, it is not examinable when the gimmick is in the bottle. You can shown the bottle to them and rotate it in the air for them to see. To prevent hecklers, it might be wise to ask for the knife and then proceed to saw the bottle open. You cannot hand the bottle to them. However, the bottle is really inside the bottle. Shall not reveal anymore in case it leads to exposure.

My mailbox has been full for a long time and I do not seem to be able to clear it. (Mods, please advice and help)

The main cons of this trick is that you need to carry a gimmick along and the trick isn't cheap as well.

Just a bit curious, what if your audience suddenly ask can i check the bottle when the handphone is in the bottle. How do you answer him?

Ho seh lor. You will quiver and say "Sorry cannot take".

joeltay81 - January 15, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
Change the sunject and just ask for the knife, and say... "Watch". Then proceed to cut while they watch. LOL. Once you open the bottle... you can end and they can examine the bottle, handphone, bottle cap, and knife all they want. Even can examine the water bottle label if they want. ;) Distract them is audience management fail. If that still fails, change your hobby. haha. Kidding.

If u just follow the main method taught in the DVD, i think it is a little too impractical. I think most ppl will modify the gimmick before doing the trick.

joeltay81 - January 16, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
Modify the gimmick?

I thought that it was very well made.

zengrr - January 19, 2008 09:40 AM (GMT)
I usually do not use the main method in the dvd. I prefer to move the bottle towards the gimmick although as mentioned in the DVD, it can be suicidal if done wrong.

Sorry to dig out this 6 month old thread.

Can i know how to handle the gimmick before performing. And which kind of misdirection to use? The DVD sounds abit too easy to use when performing. Lastly, i have tried practicing and the sound produce is a factor too.

Anyone care to share your experience? Thanks

joeltay81 - June 26, 2008 02:15 AM (GMT)
There are a few ways of handling that are covered in the DVD. Just use the one that is most comfortable. It sounds easy on DVD because it IS easy. Sound cannot be detected in normal "on the streets" performances - not even upclose. Besides, if you are talking or asking them for a coin or their handphone, there is no problem really. The gimmick is well made. Never had a sound problem at all.

cl3BerbOi - June 26, 2008 07:27 AM (GMT)
Hi joeltay81, but how u keep the gimmick with you before performing. InstaDitch is really big. Lastly, did you modify the gimmick? The size doesn't really fit me.
Thanks.

joeltay81 - June 26, 2008 05:27 PM (GMT)
hi Cl3Berboi,

Yes. I modify it to fit as taught in the video. Cut the gimmick to fit better. The InstaDitch is big but not a problem, since you put both hands into your pockets to search for the knife to cut open the bottle at the end to remove the handphone. That looking for the knife gives you a lot of misdirection to fumble about and unload the gimmick.

If you find handphones hard to do, then use something smaller - but preferable still bigger then the bottle mouth.

Behold The Scarabaeus

I am not trying to dig up old post but the link no longer works .

Is there any other way i can get this trick?

Jlowhy - April 22, 2009 04:26 PM (GMT)
Learn to do a google search.

feifei - June 3, 2009 07:51 AM (GMT)
You can definitely get it from the Original source which is Magic Depot magic.org, or you should be able to easily find it by going to any reputable online magic dealer, most of them still carries this product.

Have you already checked with Magic Boutique?

joel - January 18, 2010 11:02 AM (GMT)
I don't modify the gimmick at all. The original gimmick is very well made - not the fake ones sold in a particular magic shop in Singapore that pass it off as original. The length, grip, angle of the gimmick and sturdiness in the original is well made. I've heard some horrible stories about the imitation one (rotation of gimmick and all that). If you have the gimmick, you will know what I am referring to.

heartsofclubs - February 11, 2010 08:50 AM (GMT)
hmm didnt know so many people actually liked this effect. yah its visual and quite cool to be able to do. Infact the gimmick itself is quite smart.. can use it beyond this effect.. was glad to see how the gimmick worked.
