Questions for those who do twisting aces.
What would you say when you are showing off the ace of spade in the first phase?
The patter I saw was from Vernon's Inner Secret of Card Magic and it talked about the ace of spade being the leader blah blah.... Does anybody have a alternative patter for it?
Mine:
"Normal people turn cards over this way, (show ace) and sometimes they turn cards over this way (flip back).
Magicians can actually turn cards around secretly, using the tiny space between the cards. Here, I'll show you...."
Uncle Bob has a nice patter for this, but I think its not my place to 'reveal' it here. If you are interested in this effect I strongly recommend you ask him personally.
That aside, I learnt this trick out of academic interest, and I don't perform it. There was so much controversy in magic cafe some time back concerning the effectiveness of the trick - some thought it was a lousy senseless trick. Others hailed it as a 'perfect card effect' - extremely strong, impromptu, ends clean, instant reset etc. If I recall correctly the thread ended up with over 6 pages of replies.
Any effect that causes so much debate is worth learning.
For me, before i even do the TL to show the ace of spades, i'll ask them like "do you know which ace is the hardest to manipulate?"
Then whether they answer or not i'll carry on saying, "let me let u in on a little secret, it's actually the ace of spades". At this point i'll execute the TL and show the ace of spades.
Next i'll ask them "But do you know why?" Of course they'll say 'no' and i'll just carry on do the wr*** k*** while turning the ace of spade and leave it out jogged significantly and i'll say "it's actually because they ace of spades has more printing than any other ace and this makes it heavier than the rest" while gesturing to show the difference btw the ace of spades and the ace at the bottom of the packet..
Yup that's mine.. i usually follow up with a short asher twist routine..
Hey bryan, thanks for showing your twisting aces during the CNY SMC meet up. It's very good. I've been practicing it since then. I think matt's patter is good. Just let the fact that the aces turning over speak for themselves?
As a standalone effect, i'm not sure if it works or not but i will definitely use it as part of a 4 of a kind routine.
2 cents.
