Another great program that I personally favor is Vegas. Really easy to use once you get the hang of it, and it's not as costly as the other programs out there. SO much you can do with it... fun :D

Haven't used Adobe Premiere, but I know for a fact that it rocks people's socks in terms of powerhouse editing. You want something that looks like a Feature Film, then this would be your key.

But in the end, it's the Editor, not the editor, if that makes any sense. I've seen good programs wasted on shitty users, and I've also seen good Editors make the best use of the program they've been given. It's just like how having Jerry's Nuggets cards WON'T make you a better flourisher... but if you got the goods, and you use the right tools, then the effect you will have is doubled.

As for camcorders... just get a miniDV with good megapixels... ask the store clerk and he'll explain it better than I can. No need to invest in a Canon XL2 or anything... unless you're making a DVD or something like that. But as I just said, a miniDV cam will get you a long way. I use one :D
