ive seen gospel magic performed. lawrence and priscilla do gospel magic for their church too. anyway, gospel magic works better for non-catholic churches, as catholic churches have a more rigid, traditional structure. (im a catholic btw)

Gospel Illusion Ideas

Flash Paper- this is a fun, eye-catching, attention grabbing prop. This is a specialty paper that burns quickly, brightly without smoke or residue. Basically, it will just disappear from your hand in a dramatic, fiery flash. We can use flash paper with memory verses the most. String a wire across your meeting area and hang pieces of flash paper with the words to your memory verse written on them. (You will need to experiment with what you write the words with. Some inks effect the way the paper burns. Typically, may use a common ballpoint pen.) Now go over the memory verse point to each word as you go. After a couple of tries, light the bottom end of one piece of paper. You can talk about how the Devil doesn't want us to remember good work. How he tells us it's too much work or a waste of our time. Then ask, do we want the Devil to win by forgetting the memory verse? (the kids always yell, "No!") Then, go back over the verse letting the kids, from memory, fill in the where the blank word was. Repeat the procedure, each time lighting a word at random and seeing if the kids can remember the verse. Continue until there's nothing left and let the kids repeat the verse, and defeating the Devil.

Remember, any time you are using fire to be very careful. Flash paper is a great tool when used responsibly by adults. I never let kids handle or light the paper and as a rule don't tell them where I get the paper. I do, however, stress that it is special paper and for them not to try it at home.

Change Bag - probably the most used items. It lets us vanish or appear items. We have used it to demonstrate love or respect. A small piece of paper with the word "God's love" written on it. The bag is shown empty. I tell the kids that if they keep God's love to themselves, they don't get anymore. But when they share God's love with others, they receive that love back and more. now show the kids the bag which has now mysteriously become full of pieces of paper with "God's love" written on them. do the same with a respect program. The paper says "respect" and tell kids when they show respect to others, they get respect back.

The uses for this tool is limited only by your imagination! There are various styles and sizes of change bags. Find one that meets your needs and price. A bag has a zipper on the bottom. This lets us pass my hand through the bag to show it's empty.

Nice and cool.. right. B)

Yah I'm interested in gospel illusions as well, but those I've come across seem rather cheesy.

I've never worked with flash paper before as I've heard it's quite expensive but those ideas you've mentioned sound quite interesting. Maybe you could tell me where to get it :D

Eric Reamer's Illustrated Illusions
Ministry By Effect

Where Nothing Is Impossible...

What is "Gospel Magic"?

Isn't magic condemned by the Bible?

It must be clearly understood that the "magic" referred to by the Bible is, without exception, the manipulation of the supernatural realm, either by conjuring of demons, consulting with people known as sorcerers or mediums, dabbling with astrology with the intent to predict the future or drug-induced psychosis. It has the connotation of involvement with witchcraft, sorcery, or pharmacological (drug) involvement. Eric Reamer's Illustrated Illusions has ABSOLUTELY NO AFFILIATION with witchcraft, sorcery, or chemically-induced effects!

It is unfortunate that the art of misdirection and sleight-of-hand, for the purpose of entertainment, bears the title, "magic". However, the "magic" performed by Eric Reamer is merely a matter of illusion, specifically designed to bring about the interest of the audience. Once their attention is captivated, Eric speaks forth the Gospel truth with each new effect in a way that most will find hard to forget!

Eric Reamer has studied the origins of witchcraft, Satanism, and many of the cult movements of our time from a Biblical perspective. He is quick to renounce ANY association with these things, and has been in the full time ministry for over ten years.

Eric, and his wife, MeLinda, served for many years as the Program Directors of Teen Challenge Christian Academy in Sundance, Wyoming. In April of 1992, they moved to Sterling, Colorado, where they are centrally located for their national evangelistic ministry.

Eric is the immediate past Editor of The Christian Conjurer Magazine, which is the official publication of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians, International. He is the author of 4 books on the performance of illusions in the ministry, "Think Ahead!", "Power-Filled Gospel Magic", "Impact!", and "Visual Object Lessons for Children's Workers"

Some Frequently Asked Questions - AND their answers!

Q: Do you meet with resistance to the "magic" aspect of your ministry?
A: Through the years, I have heard several well-meaning Christians express their concerns of my using illusion. I have asked them to reserve judgement until they witness the fruit of the ministry, and my explanation of "magic", according to Biblical exegesis. In the vast majorty of such instances, those same people have expressed enthusiastic support for our ministry. There have been a few that continue to disagree, and I respect their honest intent to honor God.

Q: Is the performance of illusion a "substitute" for preaching the Word?
A: Absolutely NOT! I love to preach. There is a great need for pastors, evangelists, and teachers of the Gospel. The use of illusion serves 2 purposes: A) Attention - I can get the attention of the audience with the tricks; and B) Retention - It is a documented fact that people, young and old alike, learn far better with visual object lessons - in short, they WILL remember!

Q: How did you do that?!?
A: As a professional illusionist, I have an ethical obligation not to reveal the secrets of my art. I can assure you, though, EVERYTHING I do has a natural explanation!

Eric Reamer is a member in good standing of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians, Int'l., and the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
