Title: The Aftermath
Description: Bones, Blood and a lot of cards
CLJ - January 7, 2005 03:53 PM (GMT)
So what did everyone think of the competition?
The (lack thereof) sound system was a bit of a drag but I guess the performances went well enough. Also, it was awesome to meet some of you guys, but I missed out on shaking some of you guys'/gals' hands. Get the darn videos up here soon!
Oh yeah, and congrats to kryptikalism for causing a major upset, Kevin and Huron for coming in 2nd and 3rd, kudos to all the guys performing, all the guys I met after the event, all the guys I knew from the event (Daryl, ZW, Huron, Kevin, Cai, Sylvester, Justin, Bone), and major props to russy for finally returning me my 30 bucks he owed me for a few months.

Yeah, everything went smooth. And i think we all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. It's a success for SMC and an important milestone too! Heard that we are making it to The Straits Times youth forum page...
For this, SMC reigns. :P

It was great,
Sound System aside, I think we can all live with that in the end, it was a great show.

Nice vid, with good quality. :)

"The Aftermath: Bones, Blood and a lot of cards"
Hehe... does "Bone" have to do with the fact that the Big Devil himself showed up at the event? Hehe.
Truth be told, I didn't feel ANYTHING before and after the competition. No pre-show jitters, no disappointment at not winning the 1st prize. I felt that I did as well as I did when I dided what I did just now, and that the two guys who beat me (and 5 others) totally kicked my ass left, right and center... Huron was just so charistmatic and unique, and Farid.... Impressed (yes, with a capital I) is an understatement. I first saw him a few months back, struggling with some card moves, and now he comes back and slays everyone else with his side-slapping routine. Truly brings meaning to the overused "lol".
Props to these two, the other 5 performers for having the balls join up even though they had the vaguest ideas what this first time would have in store for them, props to everyone who showed up, especially Bone and Justin.... you 2 guys being there was really a sign that y'all cared.
And props to me for getting 3rd place, because not many have actually said anything about it. And as a side note: DAMN these super-cool limited Millenium edition Bicycle Decks are groovy. Wow :D
Peace and afro grease!

Great work..

Aloy - January 7, 2005 06:29 PM (GMT)
It was our first time so we had some hiccups and inadequaties, but i'm really happy with the turn out and the way the whole thing went. B)
Kudos to all our performers for taking the plunge and doing their stuff. I think the lack of sound support was a major bummer. That will be something we will be looking into next time. Some of yous had jitters and snapped IT and other difficulties that majorly affected your routine but hey, it's all about experience yah? But big hand to all performers, yeah.
And congratz again to our 3 winners! And what a dramatic finish, with a tie between Krypt and Huron with the audience voting...haha! We had to revert to the judges scores to break the tie. It was a real neck to neck ending! Woohoo! It couldn't be a better finish :)
And Kevin had it real hard as the finale act and really worked the considerably numbed crowd up which had sat thru almost 2 hrs of magic by then. That's showman for you. B)
And i want to thank all the people that were helping us out tonight. Yujie, Winder, Illusionist and the judges, Cynwell, MagicDow and Redifine. Couldn't have done it without you guys. Thank you all so much. And big thank you to Redifine for sponsoring the Fantasma products and the DVDs and Illusionist for sponsoring the special edition deck. Kevin just keeps getting the really cool decks huh? :)
One person that we did not mention during tonight's credit giving during the show, and I want to make a special mention now, is NING.
This girl has been working so hard the pass few weeks putting this thing together it's not funny. She has been really working her events and marketting talents and snaking us out of so many admin and logistic tightspots that honestly this event couldn't have been possible without her. And all that in slightly more than 1 month from concept to finish! And doesn't she look hot tonight? ;)
A BIG round of applause for Ning please!!
And thank you ALL that came to support the event, i hope everyone had a great time. See what i meant about coming early to "chop" the good seats? :)
Everyone who took photos/videos of the event please PM me? I would like to consolidate all the media and footage and put together a little something for us.
Have much more to say on this but really tired now. More on it tomorrow.
Cheers B)
Huron - January 7, 2005 06:37 PM (GMT)
Wow, what a night! Haha, yes the competition was a lot of fun. CONGRATULATIONS Kryptikalism! You were great man! Kevin was awesome too. You two scare the crap outta me.
Gordie, how was it having CLJ on stage with you? Haha...
I think most of us did well, and yes those who didn't start first were lucky too as we all learnt something from those performing before us. I guess a bit of the overall feel was affected as the sound system was... blearghz. Well, I would say because a clip mic was lacking... but hey, AT LEAST OUR MAGIC IDOL DREAM CAME TRUE!! It's like Sylvester and Taufik. But it's Huron and Farid!!!
And I got second. :(
But hey, thanks a lot to Morphine, the creator of this forum to make this possible in the first place. Ning as well, who helped so super much as our nice, sexy, emcee. Mac our super timer and bell ringer, who wouldn't even give me a little spare time, 'giving' me penalty points. Damn you. :D Haha it's okay I forgive you, just buy me a MACdonald's lunch. Oh yeah, thanks to Lloyd as well for the gazillion pictures he took. Don't blame him if it's a little dark, he was afraid it'll affect our performance if he used the flash. How sweet. :) haha and Seng Hoe for the short vid with the black background.
I think they mixed up the first and third prize though. Damn those cards are so... SEXY. Haha, Kevin now has Jerry's and sexy bikes.
I can't wait for the next competition!!! When will it be??!?!? Next year?!?! Next month?! Next WEEK? Haha... This event was definitely a success man.
To those who are disappointed in themselves(including me), we'll strive to achieve better next time. At least we're in The Straits Times!!! Actually that might not be such a good thing. :ph43r: BUT STILL. I think everyone did great one way or the other, and if the stupid cam showing cards on the screen was at a better angle, we wouldn't be so damn scared. Oh yeah, and please please please give us at least 20 minutes next time. Haha... It's 2.37 AM that's all I have to say. GOOD MORNING to those awake, GOOD NIGHT to those sleeping. I sign off here.
Huron

Yo!
revolutioncardmagic, great vid, nicely produced! Really great!
But yeah, Morphine, thank YOU for creating this Internet playground!
And Ning, thank YOU for tying up loose ends for the success last night! Was a night to remember for many of us!
Thank you guys, Ren, Russell, Gordie, Huron, Farid, Jamkid, Kenneth, Kevin, for each of your unique performances! Performances, routines, huh? We gotta get more! Do this annually? Maybe, but Morphine + Ning must be zonked out. We need new blood next time, huh?
And thanks to all SMC chaps who bothered to come support! The crowd was just scarily big!
Congrats to ALL participants, and the top two were very closely placed, Morphine, the audience could feel it too! So much for Singapore Idol, huh?
I'm still writing my story. Keep your eyes peeled, fellas, for that!

Photos are ready... ^_^
I apologise for the poorly taken photos... Was afraid that the "Flash" of my camera will affect the performance of the competitors... That's why some photos are quiet dark...
Ren looks like a casino dealer... in the photo... ;)

Pseudo I will need the photos in full resolutions is that possible? Can you put them in a CD for me?
Anyone else took photos and/or videos? Please PM me. I'm trying to consolidate all the coverage and put them into 1 disc.

:)
sammyp10 - January 8, 2005 02:17 PM (GMT)
hey hey ! Me and my girl friends really enjoyed the show and atmosphere. Really hope there would be another one. great to see different kinds of magic actually performed live in front of you. definately looking forward for the next one. congrats to Fared, really had a good time being entertained as " i looked at your balls" - for me it was te first time daryl actually pointed out like, oh this is bone, this is keven, huron, so im glad i at least got to know who you guys are as i am really new. give it up to ning and gang for the organization, it was really wicked !
yujie - January 8, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
glad tat it went through....haha
Kevin - January 8, 2005 03:22 PM (GMT)
Like Nelly said,
"Two is not a number and 3 nobody remembers"
Huron's feeling pretty shitty right now, and me... I'm just basking in the absence of the spotlight. Maybe calling myself mr3dux was a bad idea, huh?
But hey, at least I can say that I got into the top 3 for the first ever SMC magic competition, 5 years from now. Burr.

Daryl - January 8, 2005 04:01 PM (GMT)
Kev was absolutely amazing to be able to hold the crowd with patter and come up with such entertaining stuff on the spot. its a good break from magic magic magic.. top notch the way you interacted with everyone through a nicely flourished story. i dont believe in the titles.. and i dont believe that any of the winners lost to each other in any way.. theyre all fantastic! ;)
iewgnod - January 9, 2005 07:46 AM (GMT)
I DIDN"T GO!!!
HOW SAD CAN THAT BE?
but i'll still like to congratulate kryptikalism, Huron and Kevin for winning
and all the organisers for making this idol thing a great success! B)
Brendan - January 9, 2005 12:47 PM (GMT)
G'day all..
ok, i just got back home.. now in melaka. firstly i would like to thank all you people that i manage to have a chat with and hang out with. Many thanx to Mac, winder and llyod as well as to Christoph and Nicholas for their wonderful hospitality. THese were the people that i spent most of my time with during my visit to spore...
Ok, now some of my comments on the magic comp. Firstly, we must give another round of applause to the organisers and staff to make this event happen. I didnt think that i would ever met u so many magicians/flourishers b4... i truly enjoyed myself that nite. Well done to all the participants and congrats to the winners.... Farid, Huron, Kevin, Gordie... man.. all of u are winners!
This event was an eye opener for me coz i never met so many magicians b4. Its always so great to see people's passion for the art that they love doing. All i can say is keep it up... u guys are doing so well and im sure u will improve more and more!
And as for the flourishes there... man i am amazed.... speechless... i saw Cai and bone and i was like wow... then they started flourishing.. and cai... wow... too fast for me to see ya one handcuts... super fast and super skillz. nice stuff. Bone is lol.. wat else can i say.. inhuman la... nice touch on the cards and like his cobra cuts and some other things he does. Sly was also vvv good. i like the way he does his opener and his spins.. nice stufff there bro. Huron, got to see some moves from him too and daryl... i like ya asher twist!
besides people from spore... i also got to meet this a foreigner.. London dude.. forgotten his name... indian looking.. wow.. this guy can do mentalism and... man his top shot... wow.... super nice and his slow top shot one... wow.. nice... where the card spins off the deck and make a turn and land on his other hand. nice stuff. he is also good at his green's snap deals.. :P. I asked him how he knew abt the event or who invited him.. he said that he came across it over the internet... man... u see how recognisable at attractive SMC is? cool rite?
well all i can say is great first time SMC competition. im sure the next competition will be so much better, now that we know of areas that we can improve on... esp the sound and the settings. ok... i think im typing too much now.. lol.. again GREAT JOB!
Moondust - January 9, 2005 04:29 PM (GMT)
Hiya guys.
Let me offer my appreciation for an entertaining evening for both me and my colleague, and let me express my apologies for showing up late in the middle of the performances.
Firstly, huge round of applause to the dudes and dudettes that make this happen. An insurmountable amount of effort and time must have been sacrificed to organise this within such short notice. I really didn't expect such a huge crowd when I showed up (late, because of work). Could barely squeeze my way in to grab a seat! Wow!
Congrats to Kryptikalism on winning (my vote didn't go to a waste  )! Kevin's patter was equally as complete and entertaining and Huron's mentalism was seriously superb and off the scale! You guys make magic a true art!
Not forgetting the rest of the participants (even though I didn't arrive on time to see the first few performances), with enough gusto and commitment to put together each individual routine and to take them to new heights.
The judges were pragmatic, observant and in my opinion, highly attentive and capable. Each time I look at the judges' table during performances, their eyes are scrutinising the performers' every detail without fail. Not even Singapore Idol judges do that! Wonderfully done, guys!
I'm really sad that I can't stay for long to say hi to all the people in here that I haven't met. My colleague had to go home and I promised him a lift... plus I had alcohol and it was disagreeing with the medication I took for my fever.
I really can't wait for an event like this to be held again. Makes you feel proud to be part of this forum where so much effort and dedication is being shared. You guys are the best!!!
M.A.D. - January 10, 2005 01:59 AM (GMT)
so waste I DIDN"T GO!!!
and i'll like to congratulate kryptikalism, Huron and Kevin for winning
and all the organisers for making this A Success!
B)
But i could not see the video.
Russell - January 10, 2005 08:26 AM (GMT)
When can we have the video of ourselves performing?
