Title: What's So Good About Morgans?
muscleaxl - April 25, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
I was watching a few dvds on coins recently and I noticed the coins used were all morgans (was informed by Jerome).
I was just wondering what's the difference between those and the half-dollars we usually used? I was told they are bigger and heavier, which I thought might be more difficult to handle. So is there any special "advantages" in using morgans?

Hey Axl,
1. Morgan dollars are made from silver, so when they clink, it sounds nice.
2. They are big, so better for many routines like 3fly. Alot more visual as well. Easier to fingerP, harder to classic, because it's too big and heavy for asian hands. Although I think the angmors hav no problem with the classicP.
For some reason, morgan is prefered over peace, i have no idea why. Well i got some morgans from ebay, will let u know when i receive them. ha.

Hey Zi An :)
Be sure that your online source for Morgans is an honest one (you know sometimes how Ebay can be!) because there are plenty of fake Morgans going around.
These supposed silver dollars are not the real deal and these coins may be cheaper. Sometimes they could be priced as the real deal but you don't get what you pay for.
It can be difficult to check on the legitimacy of these American coins until you see, feel and use them in real life... as opposed to a mere picture online. I've personally come across people here and overseas trying to pass off fake Morgan dollars as real silver dollars, so just a heads-up to anyone reading this, should they not be aware ^_^
PS: Axl, Zi An's completely right about Morgans being more visual than regular half dollars because they are significantly bigger in size and have a more pleasant clink to it. It's the next common coin gimmick next to the typical American half dollar, I think, as it's more definitely more sophisticated and visual than using a quarter or smaller coin down the line. Think of Todd Lassen's deliciously yummy Triple Threat!!!

Wah serious ah Ning. I hope i don't get cheated man. Then the coins at Lassen and schoolcraft, are they real silver coins or just replicas?

You can easily tell them apart by the weight. Lassen uses real coins. As for replicas, I've seen them for sale at S$1 each. Don't ask me where though, its probably out of stock anyway.
