Title: Amati's Aces
Logan - April 30, 2008 03:26 PM (GMT)
Hey guys!
This is my latest video,
Amati's AcesSome of you may have seen this before since I posted it on TMC earlier but it's here now :D
Sorry for the delay, it is my revision week (exams next week!) and yeah, my mind has been everywhere!
Here's the background of the effect (copied from my post on TMC):
7 years ago I was inspired by Copperfield's beautiful and elegant ace assembly routine. It was the trick that made me stand up and declare that I would become a magician. I then set out to learn that very ace assembly.
After 1 year of researching and learning magic, I was performing Copperfield's version of it - exactly. After a while, I sat down and thought about how morally incorrect it was of me to copy Copperfield's routine.
Where was the originality?
So, with INSPIRATION from his routine, I set out to create my own ace assembly routine. I wanted to create a routine that carried the dramatic weight that Copperfield's had.
The creation of this effect took slightly more than 2 years.
Pretty long for a card trick
But this is the product of many hours of brain storming and practicing.
I dedicate this to my grand aunty, Amati Nur, my biggest fan
I know it's not as great as Copperfield's, nor was it intended to be, but at least it's original and it's mine :P
I sincerely hope that I've achieved what I set out to do.
And I sincerely hope that it will inspire people; like how Copperfield inspired me all those years ago.
On a side note, I recently closed a tradeshow with this routine and it went down very well - so much so that the media team recording the show replayed the footage of the routine a second time.
Very heartwarming ^_^
If you feel there's anything I can improve on, do let me know!
Thanks guys and take care,
Logan
P.S. And major apologies for the late posting!

Hey Yo,
Again another NICE video.
Ya like you, I certainly also like Copperfield's Grandfather's aces.
And my Comments is, Yours is as good as his. The flaw only can be that the Ace of spade has to be in the stack of cards, I suppose you can brainstorm abit into bringing out 3 "other" cards into the scene on top of the aces of spade, and after everything, the 3 cards became the other 3 aces.
I suppose that won't be tough for you. Why will I say that is that, yes, its magical that the 3 cards reappeared into the stack, but it appears in a stack, but if it appear outside of the stack? It might have a bigger blow of impact.
This routine requires lots of practices and timing, which I very impressive and know that you did well for this. Above is just my small comment and please take it lightly, just a small vision from my thoughts.
Certainly alot to learn from you. Take care, All the best.
Larry

Hey Larry!
Thanks for your most gracious comments!!
As good as DC's? Wow! Thank you!
Regarding your comment on the reappearance of the aces:
As you could imagine, I did a alot of thinking, putting this routine together. I tried some ideas that worked, some that didn't and everything in between.
I did think about using 3 odd cards that changed into the aces, as you suggested, but I quickly dropped that idea for 2 reasons:
1. It would be too similar to McDonald's Aces, which is something I tried my best to stay away from - hence instead of having 4 cards after the vanish, I have 3 - closer to the Real Gone Aces assembly plot and more importantly, closer to DC's, which was what I was aiming for.
2. I liked the idea of doing an elegant spread turnover - slowly. That idea intrigued me, because now I have the ability to hold the drama and suspense for just one more second - and I'm sure, from looking at the video, you could tell I slowed down the turnover before the aces. Also, with the AS being in the deck, although yes it is surrounded by other cards, it is the only one face up and I make it a point to show that back and forth, which means that it's a fair display of the AS just before I close up the deck so the audience knows where it is for sure and the state it was in when they last saw it.
It was the fairness I was after ^_^
I hope this provides some info as to why I chose the decision I did ;)
Thanks again Larry, you always say nice things about my videos, I'm very grateful :D
Stay safe brother,
And I have alot to learn from you too!

That was beautiful! Everyone who knows me know that I hate cards, but Logan, the effect you did is beautiful. Nice song with routine ending at the end of the song, good job. Now, I wish I could have done that.
BTW, who is Amati?

christo,
Thank you so much for the kind words my friend.
My whole aim from the beginning (of my picking up magic) was to try to illicit emotion in my spectators. I wanted them to feel, like how a story made you feel or how a piece of music made you feel - I wanted magic to do that.
So yeah, your comment pretty much made my day
Thanks again ^_^
infinexaxis,
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it!

Wow! Very graceful! Your card handling is smooth and it shows. Your other videos with real spectators are also good. Very inspiring thanks for sharing.
