Title: Torn And Restored Card
Description: Please help me with my new obsession
Moondust - January 9, 2005 05:11 PM (GMT)
I was digging thru my old stuff and I found my David Copperfield videos. Watched DC perform the effect "Torn Asunder" on the world's most valuable baseball card with awe and admiration.
I suddenly had the urge to learn a good TnR routine, something that I have no prior experience with.
I have ResurrXion but it isn't good enough... I was hoping to find a routine that enables the card to be signed cleanly across the entire face, the pieces need not be put into and taken out from the pocket, and preferably examinable after the effect.
I've even ordered Drawing Room Deceptions by Guy Hollingworth just so that I can learn the handling for his "Reformation" TnR.
Torn Asunder is not available for sale.
Reparation by John Lovick is a lot easier to perform, but the card can only be signed on a specific portion of the card.
Seamless (can't remember the inventor's name) looks excellent on video, but the inventor has stopped releasing it into the market.
Anyone knows of any good piece by piece restorations available in the market?
P.S. I'll definitely buy Huron's Fire in the Hole when it's released. Can't afford to pay a King's ransom, but I'll gladly commit murder to get my hands on it.

Yeah, Unripped is pretty cool. :P

Piece by piece restoration-wise, the most visual and easiest is probably Daniel Garcia's Torn, which is very similar to Yves' Ripped and Restored in terms of the tearing sequence (Daniel Garcia had a more clumsy tearing sequence at first, but after seeing Yves' routine, he took the tearing sequence), but the restorations are MUCH more visual and for that matter easier.
Mismatch piece by piece restoration-wise, that's an entirely different story... Huron's Making Ends Meet blows away all the competition.

Wondering when Huron is going to release his TnR trick. Sounds that it's really POWERFUL! If he ever decides to release it, I'll surely get it. :D

Somewhere between half a hundred multiplied by zero, and half a hundred divided by zero. Count it to be on US dollars i believe.
Kevin - January 11, 2005 10:52 AM (GMT)
Price will be in USD, ranging from $35 to $45. Depends on how hard we work on the damn thing... Burr :D

Checked out Garcia's "Torn." Looks good, but then again, signature can be signed only on a specific portion of the card. The joining of the pieces are indeed visual, and DAMN, does he have that aura in his vid!
Unripped is really cool like what you guys said, but they didn't have the part where they restored the seams and peeled off the signature. Can that really be done as claimed?

Last time I saw the ironing-out-creases and peeling-off-signature plot, it was on Sean Field's "Fusion". (Just in case no one mentioned this before... I'm too lazy to browse thru previous posts)

Hey bro.
Yeah... I just found out.
It's a freaking big load of prep for one trick, don't you think?
Anyway, Gared Crawford did mention that Sean Field's Fusion is kinda similar.
Brendan - January 14, 2005 09:50 AM (GMT)
Fusion is much better than Unripped man. Unripped can just say bye bye to it la... totally too much preparation. i watch how to do it until i sien already. over 1 hour to explain? gosh! has anyone who has this unripped vid actualy done all these prep to perform it?
Fusion is cool with me for now... we'll just have to wait for huron's FITH!

Somehow, moondust doesn't seem to be getting the point. Here's my little inequality formula:
Other T&R's < Huron's T&R's
Case closed, gentlemen.

Dude, I get the point.
Problem is, I want the exposure. And I can't stand waiting in anticipation till Huron's vid comes out.
It's like if you ain't got cocaine, gimme cheap marijuana.

MC? You mean Magic Castle? Solomon's own creation? Hell yeah, sure. Why not? I'm open to all suggestions.
<<Magic>> - January 22, 2005 08:39 AM (GMT)
dunno if its his's.. but sure is powerful but needs loads of practice...
GordonLi - January 23, 2005 04:04 AM (GMT)
im doubtful if its solomon's. probably teaching some other ppl's creation without credit or royalties.

It could be just pure instruction that he may be giving...you know, like when you share a marketed effect with an eager fellow magician. I haven't actually met Solomon in person though.
He's a helpful chap. I remembered when I joined my first magic forum and wanted to buy my first supply of I.T, Solomon kindly asked over the phone if he could help me with any routines.
Wouldn't mind practicing and learning his techniques or any marketed effect he has to offer...as long as it doesn't dent my bank account.
Btw, <<Magic>>, any idea what his effect comprises that makes it an exceptional handling for an effective TnR?
Practised Sean Fields "Fusion" last night. Simple set up and not too complicated, but it isn't something I dare to perform too close to the spectator, due to the slight discrepancies with the final restoration and the part where you supposedly show four seperate pieces after tearing the card. Not too convincing... One thing good though: after tearing the card, the restoration can be done without having to stick your hands in the pocket to take out the torn pieces.
ResurreXXion has the same discrepancies as Fusion at the end of the effect. The handling isn't as good but the tearing result is much more convincing.
I just love Unripped. Yeah, I know...tons of prep. But damn, a lot of thought has been put into it! Unfortunately, it's not something that I can do in a moment's notice.
Time to turn to Huron or Solomon...
Kevin - January 24, 2005 09:23 AM (GMT)
Well, Moondust... I think Ben Harris' "Hoodwink" might me of practical use for now. Though it's not a full-blown T&R, it's very commercial, and fairly easy to do :D
I was working on a no-dupe T&R a while back, got some kinks that are pretty... burr. I might show it to ya someday, and then you can tell me exactly how much it sucks. Boohoo :(

Cool bro! Can't wait to see it.
And don't worry. None of the stuff I've seen you do ever sucked, so I'm seriously looking foward to it! ;)
