It is a scheduled show, and its their gala nite, so they are donating all proceeds to the people in sichuan. And i personally know the director of the charity, so rest assured the money wont be wasted in so-called administrative usage.

Ian - June 26, 2008 05:07 PM (GMT)
Oh i see. Thanks! Asking cos Sistic and the website never say. So the full amount from tix go to sichuan for charity?

Ian, I think you should read the rules and regulations before typing any entry.

Thanks.

Hi, sorry.. I replied in proper english already. Am i not allowed to ask about whether the whole amount goes to charity?

I am just wondering because it is a church so everything should be open and transparent right?

Look at the language you are talking here. Cos instead of Cause? Same goes for the tickets. Thanks.

BlUeCoWz - July 3, 2008 03:06 AM (GMT)
Yes it is the first time explanade is actually opening to a magic performance.
There was also much difficulty on performing there especially since esplanade prides itself to be THE arts centre in singapore. So its not easy to play there and not cheap either XD.

I'll most probably be going on the 16th and 17th.

M.A.D. - July 9, 2008 08:14 AM (GMT)
i will be there for MAGICBOX on 15/07 and 17/07, BlUeCoWz, i will see you there, by the ways i like your Pom Pom Stick, it was fun and also the Finding Card Trick too.

Like to see more on your action.

Lamadude - July 14, 2008 06:43 AM (GMT)
any reviews of the show?

ChanZiAn - July 15, 2008 12:52 PM (GMT)
Then why type a one liner today? Don't set a bad example for the newer people, making them think that the one liner rule only applies to people who has 80 posts or less.

Here's the review as promised.

At first, I thought the dancing segments were a waste of time. But as I went along through the show, I must say the plot is nice and meaningful, and together with good magic, it was indeed the best magical show this year, well at least for me!

There was a great balance of classic illusion and modern ones. And the development of story and magic towards the end kept me wanting more and more. After the "Spikes of Doom", they could well have ended there, but they gave the audience more and more!!! Love it. I am pretty sure everyone there can happily say that every single cent was well spent.

I heard from some friends there were some problems on the earlier shows, but well, perhaps I am lucky to have watched the better show. I honestly did not like illusions, but the way Lawrence did it in this show, it gives sense and meaning to the illusions, otherwise will only appear to be puzzles to the audience. The "Spikes of Doom" especially really made me watch at the edge of my seat. Although I know what will happen, but watching it still remained thrilling for me. Don't ask me why. Haha.

The dancing hank routine I thought was pretty cool. I've seen heavily animated routines like that of David Copperfield's "Dancing Ties". But Lawrence's one is nice. Simple, direct and really sweet! Fantastic.

The metamorphosis and animated suspension were my favourites. Very fast, brilliantly executed, I thought. The dove act was abit boring though, at least from where I was seating. The parasol act by Priscilla also lack excitement, to me. Similar stuffs done by Luna Shimada.

Anyway, great job to Lawrence, Priscilla and team! Wishing you all the best in all your other shows! I will definitely encourage everyone to watch this if possible.

BlUeCoWz - July 16, 2008 04:12 PM (GMT)
Hi i just got back from the show. I really didnt expect to be there today, but i managed to see some familiar faces like shufi and aloy.
wanted to go say hi to aloy but was a lil tied up

Back to the topic, the show started with lawrence's Dove Act, which was perfect especially the 1-to-1 dove production. Cant really remember the sequences so i'll just list my favourites things about the show.

1. Priscilla's Japanese Parasol Act not the metropolitan one
2. Levitation and disappearance of Priscilla (Dream Scene)
3. The 2nd Scene's Opening aka McBrides LightStick
4. Bump
5. Getting Volunteers to perform magic to the audience at intervals.

And 5 of my pet peeves.

1. I had switched seats with a couple,so they could sit together, and the usher kept insisting that i sat back at my place.
2. The sector that i was sitting at had alot of teenagers that were too noisy, fake sobbin at the touching scenes, and sarcastically make remarks. realli quite distracting
3. The volunteer for sawing a man in half looked a lil too enthu.
4. The music would cut suddenly at times into the next track, at least they should fade in and out properly
5. The appearance of the bike and car wasn't shocking enough for me.

Yup thats my 20 sense now.

BlUeCoWz - July 16, 2008 04:14 PM (GMT)
As some of you who have watched the show might have realised, the show actually has some amateur magician volunteers from Lawrence n Priscilla's Project SMILE, some of which are actually still in PRIMARY School. So some are really young, and definitely not as good as Lawrence and Priscilla.

Unfortunately, some audiences havent been really nice. A lil boy went up to some audience before the show to perform and got seriously exposed, by a guy who knows some of his tricks. I'm actually quite disgusted that such a magician actually exists. Especially with a young magician who is starting to discover his fascination with magic.

I was one of the volunteers tonight , and i have to say that some volunteers were actually surprised that uncle bob actually came by today. So as the volunteers were perform in the presence of him, they were equally surprised when he showed them a trick as well. Thank You Uncle Bob.

It's my pleasure to meet up with all you guys at Lawrence & Priscilla Show last night coz its morning now. Keep on learning and practising. You will never know one day you will be a star in magic.

I did enjoy the show and can imagine the number of rehearsals they must have had put up. Generally its a good show. Lay audience are the best critics because we magicians see things in a different angle.

You guys love magic should spend more time at the SMC forum and join in the family of members. This way you will get to meet up more magicians and more exposures.

Enjoy your magic.

Uncle Bob

Ouh, anyone going to the show today at 230pm? I'm going!

Edwardjb - July 20, 2008 06:27 PM (GMT)
i went to the saturday 8pm show.
Never regret of buying ticket for the show.

it was a very good 2 in 1 show. (can i said that? it was a musical +Magic performance..hehe :P :P )
i enjoy the show very well and will continue support their show in the future.

few opinion after the show:
1. i enjoy first part of parasol act (in magicbox with japannese traditional dresses) then the second part(in metropolitan).
2. The levitaion is great, i love the fell they creat when perform this magic.
3. Dancing handkerchief is cute and funny, the perform combine with the sound effect, it made audiences laugh and enjoy, honestly specking, i love that handkerchief (i beleive alot of audience as same as me. :D :D )
4. Custume Change is abit little, it change only one dress, i though it will have at least change of 5 different dresses. (am i too over? haha)
5. at last, one sad thing i come across is color change handkerchief. Lawrence said he teach all the audience how to perform the color change handkerchief but actually he not. the explaination is not true, is just a routine of his performance, but i saw some of the boy(audience) try to do as what he teach to try to perform the trick in the break time. oh my god!
hahaha.

By the way, it is a international standard show, will never regret to reconmanceded to friend but sadly last show was finish last night.

AhLiShuFi - July 20, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
My dear forum mate, Edwardjb. To prevent you from getting into further trouble, please start your sentences with capital letters. This will make others reading your posts a more pleasant one. I will pardon your spelling mistakes as I believe they are genuine mistakes.

In any case, about your comments regarding the show:

1. Lawrence not teaching the secret to the trick. This is because magicians do not reveal the secrets. Secrets become worthless once revealed and the consequence is over-exposure and as a result, magicians can no longer perform that trick. It is supposed to still be magical when he open his hand and show that indeed, the handkerchief that was once there has suddenly disappeared.

2. About the costume change, Priscilla was not attempting to do a full costume change act. It was just a small bit of magic included within another routine. So, that explains why she did not do multiple changes.

In any case, I'm glad you enjoyed the show as I have also enjoyed it just as much! Cheers!

Edwardjb - July 21, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
Thanks Shufi of your comment.
I will take note in the future.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

Hi all!! Logged in and blow away the dust on my account...

I manage to get real good seats and crazy price!

Anyway, heres my review,

As usual, i always like their magic, one of those very neat illusionist in Singapore.

Great show, good story plot, and good use of stage props to manipulate the different venues of the show.

Levitation was very very well done, the use of those magic props is very appropriate as it does not have the "show and sell" effect. (Thumbs up for that)

Only disappointment is that it is a little similar to magic of love it terms of props use and story plot. (Daughter go against Dad and ....)

OH I almost forget, 2 plus 2 Thumb tip Up for the little boy who perform his 4 ring routine! Haha, I am just crazy over linking rings.

PS: CANT WAIT TO MEET UP WITH MY OLD FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!! :D
